The Quickie: How To Embrace Change And Tolerate Uncertainty

5/15/2024
Change is one of the only constants in life, but a lot of people are really adverse to it. TBH, I actually thrive in change and chaos, I’m always seeking newness, so this week I’m sharing how I overcome fear of change to approach it with a growth mindset. Tim Ferris says “People would rather be unhappy than uncertain.” Change is hard because it comes with a loss of control, and it often means letting go of how things are to embrace something new. But what is the safety and comfort of remaining the same costing you? And how do we get better at such an important, but uncomfortable, life skill? Tune in as I chat about: If you’re toying with changes in your life right now, just remember that people often regret what they didn’t do more than what they did. You got this. Forgiving Ourselves For The Past And Compassionately Accepting All The Versions We've Been | I’m The Problem It’s Me

4/10/2024
Welcome back to my new series “I’m the problem, it’s me,” where I call bullshit on myself for the self-sabotage and mistakes I keep on making, because that’s the stuff that teaches us the most. Today is a vulnerable one. Remember that recent “show me you at 21” trend that circulated on social media? Well that deep-dive through old photo albums and Facebook timelines sent me into a certifiable spiral. Reflecting on who I was in my teens and early 20s, I was confronted with a tidal wave of self hate over how I looked and dressed, how much I drank, how obnoxiously and overly-sexualized I present myself, and how disconnected I seemed to be from who I really am. The judgment and shame towards my past self was overwhelming, until I realized that my current self is in fact the problem. It’s easy to be critical in hindsight, but when we were young, we were almost always doing the best we could with what we knew. I’ve spent a good chunk of adulthood resenting the versions of myself that came before this one. So it’s me, Gill, I’m the problem, it's me. And in today’s episode I’m rewriting my relationship with my past, and choosing compassion. Join me as I dive into: I hope we can all learn to love the past eras that brought us to this one, and in the meantime, know that I love you. How To Live Sustainably And Make Eco-Friendly Changes That Actually Make A Difference, with Julia Grieve | Earth Month Throwback

4/3/2024
It’s earth month, and every April we find ourselves reevaluating our consumption habits and examining how we can lower our carbon footprint. But TBH, it feels hella stressful. It's overwhelming trying to track alllll the things we're “supposed” to be doing. Between buying sustainable food, conserving water, shopping secondhand, swapping to eco-friendly appliances and tech, composting, and reducing waste, the list feels never-ending, and it feels like we're just not doing enough. So we're throwing it back to an honest and tactical episode that changed our perspective on sustainable living, with the accidental environmentalist herself, Jules Grieve. Because it's easy to let perfect become the enemy of good, and being environmentally conscious is about finding realistic swaps that actually work with your lifestyle. Going green is a game of progress over perfection. Julia is a TV personality, entrepreneur, fashion designer, former international model, and founder of the incredible Preloved, North America’s leading sustainable fashion brand that has diverted over a million sweaters from landfills. She’s CityLine’s eco expert and regularly appears on Global News and in Canada’s biggest media outlets. Her mission is to show people how simple changes, over time, can have a huge impact, and she’s showing the world how we can take an eco-friendly approach to home design, health, food, fashion and lifestyle. The Quickie: What's the Worst That Can Happen? A Tool To Stop Catastrophizing And Get Unstuck

3/27/2024
If an endless supply of “what ifs” are keeping you stuck in fear and inaction every time you need to make a decision or move forward, this tool could be a game-changer for you. In today’s episode, we’re diving into the valuable advice my career coach shared last year to help stop catastrophic thinking and get to the root of what’s actually causing you worry or paralysis. Because the answer to “what’s the worst that could happen?” usually isn’t as bad as we make it out to be, and even the worst case scenarios are almost always figureoutable. Whether you’re stuck in business decisions, dating, networking, trip-planning or big life changes, keep digging one layer deeper until you find out what’s at the core of your worries, and if that’s something you could handle.
