I asked Diego Peres - Game Localization Specialist - to come back to the podcast so that we could not only catch up about all the new activities that he has taken on since last year, but also for him to introduce to us some of his friends have who are also working in this industry. They are following their own path, defining their passion, and have acquired a lot of knowledge since they strated working on their dream projects. For months, I had been thinking about having Mario as a podcast guest because he brings together two of the most important topics in my life: Translation and Theet! I started going to the dentist early in life – like everybody else, right? However, my history with these professionals is more intense than you can imagine – from 10 to 23 I visited the dentist about 2-3 times a week – 13 sets of braces, 5 surgeries, fake teeth in my early twenties… No, I don’t hate these people! Mael Mael is a freelance translator, copywriter and marketing coach. He translates from English and Italian to French and specialises in marketing and tourism. Besides translation, he diversified his business and became a marketing coach and business developer ; he regularly collaborates with LSP.expert and Sara Freitas and help his fellow translators acquire more customers and define efficient marketing strategies that match their personality. He teaches networking at ISIT and translation at UB and is regularly invited to translation events to talk about customer relationship.

Rita is a professional subtitler, translator, transcreator and reviser with +20 years of experience. She specializes in audiovisual translation and marketing translation and over the years Rita has worked on many interesting subtitling projects commissioned by many high-profile clients with a strong presence in television, in DVD and, more recently, in streaming. She also been part of transcreation teams that provide cultural consultancy and solutions, and strive to adapt content that is suited to its intended audience. Since 2014, she has worked as a translator trainer and lecturer. Rita is also a academic resaercher in the field of Subtitling.

Kirsty and I get all together all the time to talk about our main passion - Language! Our other passion is podcasting. I have invited another 3 translators from the first season. These people are the ones who made me believe that I could could carry on this task! A friend of mine worked for a company that organized concerts mainly in Casinos and in the Portuguese Coliseums (Lisbon and Porto) with international artists. They were looking for someone to be an interpreter among all sorts of other things - Booking hotels, booking restaurants, planning events... One of my most important jobs was to be a mediator between both owners of the company because they did not speak each other's language! I was always running around and traveling a lot, but I got to meet interesting people who have been in show business for a long time. I ended up spending a lot of time with the artists because I would be the one picking them up from the airport and, in most cases, it was their first time in Portugal ( I had to do a little bit of tour guiding too). It was nice with Joe Cocker, Joaquín Cortés, Alcione, Ney Mato Grosso... just to name a few.

The presentation episode is the new listeners will look for when looking for new podcasts... However, I have decided that is the righ moment to record a little intro for The Language Worker. It took me ONE YEAR to do it... Here it is now!

The best things about having a podcast for me is to actually make new friends all the time. And that is the case for these three amazing guests that I invited to come back to the podcast one year later. They were part of the first season, my first month or two of learning how to be a podcaster. They're very relevant in the way that things ended up unfolding - they helped me a lot and they were very nice and generous. So, I thought it was going to be great to bring Kelsey, Suzie, and Jane back to check in with them see what happened during this year and they accepted to be here with me once again. This is a bit of a special episode for me, and I really hope you enjoy it!

For this episode about Literary Translation, I invited three people who don’t know each other and don’t really know much about each other’s work. Mónia - Until 2019, Mónia worked mainly in the technical field (translating and proofreading technical texts, from mechanical engineering to medical devices, including legal and marketing). At the beginning of 2020, she embarked on literary revision, and, shortly after that, she delivered her first literary translation. Mónia has translated over 15 books since then (fiction and non-fiction). Barbara - Barbara’s passion is to see Language, playing with language and, above all, conveying what an author has said. She is also passionate about raising the profile of translators - be it with readings from her own translations or by organizing and moderating events with colleagues. Keith - Writer. While doing my BA in Linguistics I always made it clear to everyone that my main focus was on Lexicology, specially on Terminology. When I started working I had the chance to be a part of a Linguistics Institute and be a part of a couple of projects, one of them in the area o Terminology. I participated in scientific meetings and symposiums and presented a few papers internationally.

Carlos La Orden Tovar has a very public localization life. He delivers workshops, labs, and presentations as a speaker at global and local industry events for translation and localization professionals and students. He is also the coordinator of workshops and seminars, E-Learning presentations, and a course designer. In this conversation, we also talk about the importance of music in Carlo’s life and how it influenced his career in languages.
