Vol State Chat

Another semester has finished at Vol State and The Vol State Chat is finishing up our first season. The Chat kicked off in August 2021. Eric Melcher did a great job organizing, launching, and hosting the show. Chloe Duvall and Winnie Combs both have been a big part of the show since the beginning. Janice Herrin and Jeff Rae joined the crew this Spring and have been enjoying our time with the show. In this segment, Chloe, Janice, and Jeff take a moment to look back on the first season and share some highlights. The Chat team would like to say thank you to all our guests who took time out of their week to join us on the show.

One of our student co-hosts, Winnie Combs, is graduating from Middle College High School and will be attending a college out of state in the Fall. Sadly, she will not be on the show next season. In the segment, we chat with Winnie about her time at VS and her future plans.

Vol State recently finished up the Spring semester and on Saturday, May 7, 2022, Vol State hosted commencement for 372 students. In this segment, The Chat talked with 8 students prior to the start of graduation to hear thoughts on their time at VS and their plans for the future. Congratulations to all the graduates.

In this studio now, we are joined by someone that our listeners know well, as she has been co-hosting The Chat almost since the beginning of the show. Now, we get to change things up a bit and put the interview spotlight on her. We are talking about the one and only, Chloe Duvall. Chloe is studying music business at Vol State and is a very talented musical artist. Tune in to hear about her time at VS and about her music career. She recently released her first song, "Ego" and we will be playing the song at the end of this segment. It’s one you will want to add to your playlist on your favorite streaming service.

In this segment, we have the privilege of talking with two students, India and Karlee Goostree, about a really inspiring and special event in their lives.

The Chat is joined by Professor Ben Graves, who teaches in the music department. Ben will be sharing details on the upcoming Spring Showcase and the music programs available here at Vol State.

The show welcomes Brianna Bollinger, an amazing guitarist, songwriter, and artist here at Vol State; and she just released her brand-new single, “what did you expect” on all streaming platforms.

For this episode, we will be chatting with our guests about SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. And this starts in the classroom here are Vol State. The SkillsUSA teams are led by our first two guests, Assistant Chief of Campus Police, Tim Anschuetz (aka AC) and Director of the Criminal Justice department, Bradley Tracy.

For this episode, we will be chatting with 3 students that competed in the SkillsUSA competition. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. And this starts in the classroom here are Vol State. The SkillsUSA won Gold in their respective competition. Listen in as Sydney, Chris, and Jasmine share their stories of training and competing, and then hear what is next for each of them. We welcome Mr. Larry Jobe to The Chat. He is a Vol State student who will be graduating next month with a general studies degree. Larry’s road to Vol State, and to earning his degree, is interesting as well as inspiring.

In this segment, Jean Colello joins The Chat. Jean is the manger of TRIO Student Support Services, a federally funded program through the US Department of Education. Jean and the TRIO Staff have assisted Larry during his time at Vol State and contributed to Larry's path to graduation. More details on TRIO may be found at https://volstate.edu/trio.

In this segment, we continue to chat with Vol State student Larry Jobe. Larry shares details about an awful car accident in 2007 which altered his life's plan. He had to learn to walk again, to talk again, and to live life again. After creating a new mindset, Larry set his sights on college (2010) and graduating from Vol State (2022).

To kick off this episode, co-host Chloe chats with Brendan Tramel, who is the assistant director of the Vol State theater performance of A Daughter's A Daughter.

The Vol State Athletic Director, Bobby Hudson, joins the Chat to discuss an upcoming special weekends for alumni of the baseball and softball teams.
