Gateway to the Stars

A powerful dictatorship discovers UFOs on the moon. They track it to a distant wormhole and build a spaceship to find the alien superweapon. But it was too late. The war was lost and now the spaceship and its genetically engineered crew are exiled by a new order with no interest in outer space.
