The Paper Orchard

In a town where the dead grow letters from the branches of ancient willows, a wandering postmaster must finally stop running from her own past to deliver the truth. Lyra Lighthaven is a provincial route-mapper who lives by a strict rule: never stay in one place long enough to let your roots sink. Treating every village as a temporary puzzle of shifting roads and delayed correspondence, she protects herself from the agonizing permanence of emotional abandonment. But when she rides into the hill town of Mothbridge to update the postal ledgers, she stumbles into a crisis that defies bureaucratic logic. The town's memorial orchard is blooming with impossible paper fruit—unfinished letters written by the deceased, suspended magically in mid-air. What begins as a melancholic wonder quickly devolves into mass paranoia. When a bitter neighbor harvests an incomplete letter to legally steal an inheritance, Mothbridge fractures under the weight of unsaid words. Forced to break her own rules of professional detachment, Lyra must map not the physical roads, but the deep emotional grief and buried secrets of the town. With the help of the local blacksmith, she races to untangle a catastrophic web of stalled emotional mail before opportunistic greed tears the community apart forever.
