This audiobook is narrated by a digital voice. Gemini follows a British family, the Vindexes, embroiled in the dynastic and religious tumult that is called the Crisis of the Third Century. The Roman empire had been divided into two realms by Diocletian, each ruled by subordinate Emperors and their seconds, called Caesars. But competition among these rulers led constant infighting, and as political chaos spread, so did a new religion, Christianity, which, unlike its predecessors, refused to tolerate rivals, calling all pagan religions demon worship. The Vindex family has long been sustained by pagan gods who give special powers to twins born to the family. Licinianus is a legendary fighter, whose prowess brings him to the notice of the Emperor Constantinus, while his twin sister Severina has the ability to save children and the beauty to draw the unwelcome attentions of the emperor’s illegitimate son. These endowments propel them to the center of the religious and dynastic chaos of third century Britain. The book is told from the viewpoints of both twins, the brother and the sister.
