Generational Neurodivergence (Lori & Missy)

1/30/2023
Generational Neurodivergence seems to be more common than we think. Our brave mental health advocate, Missy says that she sees some improvement in the school system since her time. However, there are still some issues that parents are fighting to advocate for their children. She grew up feeling isolated and bullied by her peers for having a different way of learning. She felt that she was looked at as being different in a negative way because she was placed in a different learning support classroom yet had the same electives, lunch, and recess with her peers. So, she learned early on that keeping quiet and to herself was how she could cope. Even though she noticed that her child didn’t seem as isolated in his school as she felt growing up, there were still some issues with what he needed academically. After many discussions with the school and noticing he wasn’t receiving the resources that he needed, it was clear that the time had come to pull him out of that school. Her time researching different schools paid off because he is doing so much better now. Although Generational Neurodivergence seems to be more common than we think, Missy didn’t allow the stigma that she felt stop her from working hard to get her associates degree so she could live her dream of working with children. She says that she did not want to be a statistic! Missy’s biggest message is for parents to continue to advocate for their children!! Please welcome Missy to our Co-Creator family! Poetry (Lori & Mark)

12/2/2022
The biggest impact in Marks life to write poetry began with his middle school English teachers positivity and discipline on a children's book project. Teachers are the BEST!! He recalls how middle school aged kids could be bullies and how this became part of his way to work through childhood stressors. When a close personal friend passed, his Counselor recommended that he write the story of the day that he passed. How he felt his friend's soul pass through him to say his final goodbye on that day. Some people feel talking helps, he describes how it feels to get it out on paper. To put down on paper the images and conversations from that day to be able to see it physically. Finding inspiration and mental clarity, for Mark, is from being in nature, going to parks, being with community, writing, and helping others. His favorite method is taking pen to paper to write when he's inspired to create a poem. Poetry is similar to music in the way it can magically transport us to our deepest core beliefs and values. It touches us in a deeply profound, personal level. It can be an amazing outlet to tap into our vulnerability. Helping us work through our emotions around all sorts of things. Mark's Poems have an incredibly deep impact that has the ability to wake up that part of you that may have laid dormant for years. It ignites inspiration that touches our mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being. I appreciate the 2 poems that he shared with us on this podcast and look forward to hearing more! We were also blessed with a nice little show and tell of an incredible German Devotional book that he found in Minnesota from Germany dating back to 1776! Thank you Mark for sharing your story, your incredible poems, and a part of your book collection with us! Please welcome Mark to our Co-Creator family!
