Creatine - A Silver Bullet for Women's Health

6/5/2025
As summer approaches, many people begin focusing more on their health, fitness, and wellness routines, often kick-starting their efforts to get in shape for the season. Supplements can be helpful tools to enhance performance, build muscle, and support recovery—yet many people overlook how they can contribute to a healthy, balanced routine. Creatine is in the news these days, and receiving LOTS of searches online. Why? Two reasons. It's summer and many folks are getting in shape for the season. And, the supplement creatine is no longer considered solely for weight lifters and men. It's for women too, who want to have more energy and stamina in their workouts, as they make time to balance their health with their home and work lives. Our trainer and nutritionist explains. Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach Patty Brewton is here to clear up the confusion. A former Division I collegiate swimmer with a degree in kinesiology, she guides people to train smarter by combining the right exercise, nutrition, and supplements. Despite the buzz around these supplements 54% of adults under 49 either don’t know or are unsure of how much protein they should consume daily. It’s not just protein – only 38% are aware of the benefits of pre-workout supplements, and fewer than 30% understand the advantages of creatine. This data comes from a consumer research study conducted by Nutrabolt, a Human Performance Company, that conducted a May 2025 survey of over 1,000 Americans aged 18–49.

Our population is aging, dementia is on the rise, and the availability of high quality home caregivers is scarce due to low pay and benefits. This leaves the burden of home caregiving to families, and unprepared family members navigate the medical crises and surprises with little training, guidance or support. Bradley Cooper is executive producer on the new documentary "Caregiving" airing on PBS, touching stories from a broad variety of family members who are braving the trials and joys of caregiving at home. Our Guest, Jessica Guthrie, at the age of 26, began taking care of her mother who suffered dementia in her 60's. She moved home, managed remote work, and figured out the ins and outs of her mother's care. To conquer her loneliness and lack of support, she created a support group which is now worldwide. Also our Guest, Debra Barrett, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Otsuka. Her company has a model program of supporting employees who must balance home care with work, providing time off, benefits, and home care navigators who share valuable resources. Don't Let Your Child's Schizophrenia Diagnosis Isolate You

6/5/2025
Learn more here: https://bit.ly/schizophrenia-early-treatment Schizophrenia has a typical onset in children in their late teens and early twenties. Causes are unclear - combination of genetics, environment, and other factors. If you notice cognitive changes in your child, seek medical attention early. When schizophrenia is diagnosed in early stages, brain damage is lessened, and recurring episodes are less severe. New injectable medicines can last for months, allowing patients to focus on their lives, not their diagnosis. Our first guest, Brooke Kempf, PMHNP, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner has decades of experience working in community mental health centers with psychological trauma. Ms. Kempf is a trailblazer, as she developed medication monitoring services and treatment clinics for individuals with serious mental illness and excelled at providing nursing services to group home residents. Ms. Kempf obtained her master’s degree from the State University at Stony Brook of New York and is board Certified by the ANCC as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Our second guest, Katie Hayes, RN has been a registered nurse for 36 years. She is also a caregiver to her adult son, who is now thirty years old and living with schizophrenia. Katie supported her adult son as he dealt with his diagnosis, being in and out of the hospital, and trying to find a treatment option that worked best for him. Both urge parents to get your child diagnosed and treated early on, breaking through the shame and self-guilt. Schizophrenia is a medical diagnosis, noone’s fault. Early treatment can reduce brain damage, and enable independence and success in life even with this disease.

What is Causing the Primary Care Doctor Shortage

5/15/2025
https://bit.ly/primary-care-doctor-shortage America is facing two huge crises in its healthcare system: 1) the primary care shortage and 2) the general public’s diminishing trust in healthcare professionals. Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (COMS) are leading the charge to meet this primary care shortage challenge. Dr. Robert Cain, DO, President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine explains how our aging demographics, physician retirements, and poor compensation in primary care present challenges in balancing increased demand for care in an aging population with the need to increase incentives for new medical students to become general practice physicians. This is made worse by the declining trust in the healthcare profession, due primarily to the reduction in quality of doctor-patient relationships caused by requirements for increased corporate profitability.
