When Amy decided to check out the local velodrome during a visit to her parents, something clicked – even though she spent most of the session on the flat bit in the middle. Over the intervening years, Amy’s confidence and love for cycling has grown – and it’s become a tremendous help in how she manages her anxiety. This lead her into an in-depth investigation into the topic which concluded that medicine systematically ignores or sidelines women – who are by far the most common sufferers of chronic pain conditions, and the worrying realisation that “almost everything we know about human biology comes from the study of men”.
