The mysterious ‘Sculptor People’Surprisingly little is known about the people who created these burial mounds, who are alternatively called the Cultura del Alto Magdalena (Upper Magdalena Culture) or the Pueblo Escultor (Sculptor People). “The big mystery is why these sculptors disappeared [in the ninth century],” explains archaeologist Hernán Ordoñez, who grew up in San Agustín. “Did something happen to the climate? Were there volcanic eruptions? Was it contact—or conflict—with other pre-Hispanic cultures? So far, it’s not clear.”What we do know is that the megalithic sculptures were artistic manifestations “made with the intention of almost ideological dominance,” says Ordoñez. They were meant to transcend life—perhaps acting as protectors of the living—and include iconographic features making them resemble reptiles, felines, monkeys, and other creatures native to the area. Most of the figures were carved in sitting positions and included embedded messages offering clues about ancient shamanic practices. The first scientific excavations took place here in the 1910s, though 17th-century tomb raiders had already plundered many sites for golden funerary artifacts. The archaeological parks date to 1931; they were named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995. Though large-scale scientific excavations mostly took place between the 1960s and 1990s, newer studies, conducted by the Colombian Institute of Anthropology and History between 2016 to 2022 using remote sensor technologies, are expected to shed new light on the culture over the coming years. Roughly 600 statues lie near the town of San Agustín on the eastern slopes of the Colombian Massif. The Magdalena River, Colombia’s chief waterway, has its headwaters here. The river flows east through a sharp-hewn canyon, dividing the three associated archaeological parks where the statues seem to watch over elaborate tombs with portal-like dolmens and carved stone sarcophagi.The San Agustín Archaeological Park, on the western edge of its namesake town, is the largest of the trio, home to a small museum and a winding forest trail that doubles as an open-air exhibit of statues found elsewhere. The park also contains exposed burial mounds poking above manicured lawns and a sprawling monument carved into the stone bed of a trickling stream. Davíd Dellenback was born in Oregon; he has lived in San Agustín since the 1970’s, an investigator and intepreter of the ancient Pueblo Escultor of the Macizo Colombiano. He has put together a comprehensive registry of their lithic statuary, with drawings of the stonework accompanied by descriptions, measurements, bibliography, notes on the history and movements of the monoliths, etc. He has also traveled widely in America in search of sites of ancient stone sculpture and stone-carving. As well, he has been involved in the movement to repatriate stone-sculptures stolen from the territory by huaqueros and academics. He is a member of the Veeduría de la Repatriación and of the San Agustín Academy of History. Martha Gil was born in Bogotá, Colombia; she has lived in San Agustín for more than two decades. She is an “ex-lawyer”, a writer, educator and archaeological tourism guide. She is the translator and distributor of the works published by the couple, and is a partner in the investigations of the ancient Pueblo Escultor. Although pyramids are similar in design, many may have had different or dual functions. Researchers say they used SAR to find vast city beneath the pyramidsThe researchers claim to have discovered eight vertical cylinder-shaped structures, referred to as shafts, extending approximately 2,100 feet deep beneath the pyramids. Italian and Scottish researchers claim they found a major discovery beneath the Pyramids of Giza, potentially rewriting the history of ancient Egypt. Using radar technology, the team led by Corrado Malanga from Italy's University of Pisa and Filippo Biondi from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland announced the findings of what they describe as a vast underground city stretching more than 6,500 feet directly beneath the pyramids."This groundbreaking study has redefined the boundaries of satellite data analysis and archaeological exploration," said the project's spokesperson, Nicole Ciccolo, according to The Sun. She elaborated that the discovery "could redefine our understanding of the sacred topography of ancient Egypt, providing spatial coordinates for previously unknown and unexplored subterranean structures."The researchers used a new radar technology known as Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), which combines satellite radar data with tiny vibrations from naturally occurring seismic movements. The radar was used to create high-resolution three-dimensional images of underground structures, a method similar to using sonar to map the ocean floor. Their study, still awaiting peer review, suggests that the complex is ten times larger than the pyramids themselves. The team claims to have discovered eight vertical cylinder-shaped structures, referred to as shafts, extending approximately 2,100 feet deep beneath the pyramids. Each shaft is said to be surrounded by spiral pathways that connect to two 80-meter cube-shaped structures. Above these, they reportedly found five multi-level structures connected by passageways."The existence of vast chambers beneath the earth's surface, comparable in size to the pyramids themselves, has a remarkably strong correlation with the legendary Halls of Amenti," Ciccolo stated. What you are about to read in these pages, is part of a long and systematic research begun with the intention of re-examining Plato’s works of Timaeus and Critias. Its original objective was exceeded by some of those achieved. The idea was to make a connotatively accurate translation through which to examine the logic of the ancient Greek myths and of Plato the Rationalist in the role of Mythographer. This sort of translation is probably without precedence. It is certainly not commercially viable at this stage. To ‘study the logic of myths’, means to conduct an examination of a mythical account in order to see whether it contains connotations, terms, expressions or a particular form of writing in which can be identified possible axioms, laws, principles and rules or perhaps a systemic procedure that allows the taxonomy of what is true and what is false. To ‘study the logic of Plato’, means to seek the rationale of the mythographer and what method (if any) he applied when writing a myth and to determine whether he combined truths and falsehoods and if so, why.Ultimately, to study what a myth is in purpose and in function because the Ancient Greek Myths have shown that contain many and important true information. So, why one should write such a true story in a such way that looks false?Plato was preferred because he has always been regarded as the representation of Rationalism, which somehow seems incompatible with creative writing. Accordingly, the myth chosen as the most appropriate for examination was that of Atlantis because of its workable length -neither too long nor short-, its descriptive elements and the acknowledged authenticity of its author Plato. The results of this taxing, in every aspect, investigation, as the reader will quickly come to appreciate from simply reading the information herein, were entirely unexpected and cannot be regarded as anything less than astounding.(As a whole, the cost of the first research has exceeded € 200.000 and has run into thousands of man-hours. Besides the wealth of information here, there’s much more and just as rich.)Although the project’s initial intent was to study the logic in myths and mythographers and which study yielded an unexpected amount of data as well as a formal structure to myths, the investigation went on to lead to somewhere completely different and by so doing, reward the author with a magnificent prize (amongst many), namely, the full decipherment of the myth of Atlantis and revelation of the whole truth!There now remains for the archaeologists to confirm these groundbreaking findings since, History seeks the truth, while Archaeology seeks the evidence. The two parts of the Methodology of Mythology (MoM1 and MoM2) that follow are in brief outline and almost exactly as when presented at an international conference of Philosophy and at other scientific meetings and scholarly proceedings, where they made excellent impressions to corresponding acclaim. They reveal a hitherto unknown dimension to myths, at least to those written by Plato and Homer. It is the application of a singular method which sorts out the truths and falsehoods contained in the myth. The MoM also revealed a way of writing which conceals information in outwardly straightforward text, information that would have been discernable only to whoever had been instructed as to this esoteric form of writing.The third part of the project is about Atlantis and its analysis in the book ‘The Apocalypse* of a Myth’.
