In this episode we catch up with the strange saga of Romana Didulo, the self-proclaimed “Queen of Canada.” In previous episodes, we’ve traced her bizarre rise from a Victoria, BC boarding house to her group’s nearly two year long occupation of an abandoned school in the tiny community of Richmound, Saskatchewan. Despite countless efforts to remove them, form the village of just over 100 residents nothing worked—until now. This past week brought a game-changing turn: not only was the group forced out of the school, but Romana Didulo and the building’s owner both found themselves behind bars. In this episode, we revisit the tragic and puzzling deaths of three Cape Breton teenagers, Kenny Novak (15), David Burrows (17), and Terry Burt (20), who were struck and killed by a freight train in the early morning hours of July 10, 1970, in the remote woods of Maine. Officially ruled an accident, the case was quickly closed by authorities who concluded the boys had chosen to sleep on the tracks. We are joined by Ken Jessome, a childhood friend of Kenny and David, who has spent the last several years reigniting interest in the case through a series of articles in his community newspaper.
