First Indochina War

Hourly History

In the nineteenth century, France forcibly took Vietnam as a colony and proceeded to strip it of its natural resources. Over the decades that followed, the Vietnamese mounted various attempts to rid themselves of the French, but each attempt proved fruitless until the Second World War came and made changes to the world order. This time, a combination of different factors would result in the Vietnamese fighting back and shocking the colonizers with a humiliating defeat. In this book, you will read about the Vietnamese who fought for their country against an enemy with superior weaponry and naval support. Learn about why the world powers of China, the Soviet Union, and the United States all got involved in the First Indochina War and how that led to the division of Vietnam into a communist North Vietnam and capitalist South Vietnam in the years leading up to the Vietnam War.
