Lincoln vs Davis

On a spring morning in 1861, two men from the same border-state soil — one raised in a log cabin, the other on a cotton plantation — took command of a nation tearing itself apart. Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis had almost nothing in common except the size of the burden now on their shoulders. Lincoln vs Davis tells the Civil War as it was actually fought: not as one story, but as two. Chapter by chapter, this parallel history moves between the White House and the Confederate capitol, tracing how a self-taught rail-splitter and a West Point-trained statesman each tried to hold a country together — one by force of union, the other by force of secession — and how their choices in Washington and Richmond decided the fate of a continent. This is the war told from both head offices at once: the strategy, the politics, the family losses, and the single irreversible spring in 1865 when one man's fight ended in triumph and the other's in flight.
