Charles “Duke” Tanner was born in Gary, Indiana, and began his boxing career at six years old. Duke was trained by the legendary William Murphy and worked with Angelo Dundee, who famously trained boxing icon Muhammad Ali. Duke won a bronze medal at the 1996 Junior Olympic World games. As a young boxer with a promising career with a 19-0 record, things drastically turned when he became involved in a non-violent drug conspiracy. At 24 and a first-time offender, he was arrested, tried, and received a double-life prison sentence in 2004. His sentence was later reduced to 30 years, and he only served 16 of those years. On October 21, 2021, President Donald Trump gave Duke a second chance and granted him clemency. After coming home, Duke founded the urban clothing line Freedom 20-0, which will critical issues such as missing people, human trafficking, homelessness, and elderly health care. He also hosted food drives that feed over hundreds of families in Gary, Indiana alongside more than 75 Black leaders across the community. Duke is now serving his community as a Community Developer with the well-known company, Engineered Tax Services, and an ambassador for Athletes for America. With his newfound freedom, Duke is using his platform to empower young children, raise awareness on fatherhood, criminal justice reform, and promote unity throughout the country. He has spoken to thousands of Americans in churches across the country to share his story of redemption and spread the word of God. President Trump nominated the Honorable Robert Wilkie as the tenth Secretary of Veterans Affairs. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on July 23, 2018, and sworn in on July 30, 2018. Mr. Wilkie served as the acting Secretary of VA from March 28 to May 29, 2018. Before confirmation as VA Secretary, Mr. Wilkie served Secretary James Mattis as his Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness—the principal advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense for Total Force Management as it relates to readiness, National Guard and Reserve component affairs, health affairs, training, and personnel requirements and management, including equal opportunity, morale, welfare, recreation, and the quality of life for military families. The son of an Army artillery commander, Mr. Wilkie spent his youth at Fort Bragg. Today, he is a United States Air Force Reserve colonel assigned to the Office of the Chief of Staff. Before joining the Air Force, he served in the United States Navy Reserve with the Joint Forces Intelligence Command, Naval Special Warfare Group Two, and the Office of Naval Intelligence. Mr. Wilkie has more than 20 years of federal service at the national and international levels. During the George W. Bush Administration, Mr. Wilkie served both Donald Rumsfeld and Robert Gates as Assistant Secretary of Defense from 2005–2009, and he was the youngest senior leader in the Department. Mr. Wilkie was Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and a National Security Council senior director under Dr. Condoleezza Rice. He also has extensive experience in the United States Congress, including recent service as Senior Advisor to Senator Thom Tillis and service as Counsel and Advisor on International Security Affairs to the Majority Leader of the United States Senate, the Honorable Trent Lott. Mr. Wilkie shepherded the Senate confirmation process for James Mattis, Robert Gates, and Admiral Mike Mullen (CJCS), and he was responsible for the preparation of General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker for their multiple appearances before Congress in defense of the Iraqi Surge. Mr. Wilkie was Vice President for Strategic Programs for CH2M HILL, one of the world’s largest engineering and program management firms, where for five years he held program management and advisory assignments as diverse as the London 2012 Summer Olympics and the reform and reorganization of the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense Supply and Logistics System (DE&S). Mr. Wilkie holds an Honors degree from Wake Forest University, a Juris Doctor from Loyola University College of Law in New Orleans, a Master of Laws in International and Comparative Law from Georgetown University, and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. Eric Schmitt is a sixth-generations Missourian, from a family of farmers, teachers, and small business owners who have lived and worked in the Missouri cities of Tipton, Pilot Grove, Louisiana, and St. Louis. Eric’s grandfather served in the 7th Army during World War II and saw major combat as an infantryman. After the war, he returned to Missouri to start a small butcher shop, where Eric’s father would later work. His father worked his way through night school to provide for his family while earning a diploma. Eric watched his father work 7 days a week on the midnight shift at the Anheuser-Busch brewery to provide a better life for his family, an experience that taught him the value of a strong work ethic. Eric and his wife Jaime have three children: Stephen, Sophia, and Olivia. Their son, Stephen, was born with a rare genetic condition causing tumors on his organs. He also has epilepsy, is on the autism spectrum, and is non-verbal. Stephen was Eric’s inspiration to run for office to be a voice for individuals like him and their families. One of Eric’s early legislative victories was taking on insurance companies by leading a bipartisan effort to ensure Missouri families are covered when they need it the most – including therapies for autism. On November 8, 2022, the citizens of Missouri elected Eric Schmitt as the state’s next United States Senator. Since 2019, Eric has served as Missouri’s 43rd Attorney General. Eric also led the fight to secure the border and make America energy independent. Working with a broad coalition of attorneys general, Eric ensured successful border policies were continued while fighting for domestic energy exploration to lower the price at the gas pump. Kevin Hassett, an economist known for his tax policy work, is Managing Director at the Milken Institute and the Brent R. Nicklas Distinguished Fellow in Economics at Stanford’s Hoover Institution. Previously, Mr. Hassett was the 29th Chairman of the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers and Senior Advisor to the President. He also served as Research Director at the American Enterprise Institute, senior economist at the Federal Reserve, and faculty member at Columbia University. Thomas D Homan was appointed by President Trump on January 30, 2017 as the Acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He remained the Acting Director until his retirement on June 30, 2018. ICE is the largest investigative arm within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the second largest investigative agency in the federal government. ICE has more than 20,000 Special Agents, Officers and other employees and has an annual budget of more than $8 billion. ICE is charged with protecting the homeland through criminal and civil enforcement of federal laws governing border control, customs trade, and immigration. ICE Agents are located in more than 400 offices in the United States and 46 foreign countries. From 2013 to his Presidential Appointment, Mr. Homan served as the Executive Associate Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). In this capacity, he led ICE’s efforts to identify, arrest, detain, and remove illegal aliens, including those who present a danger to national security or are a risk to public safety, as well as those who enter the United States illegally or otherwise undermine the integrity of our immigration laws and our border control efforts. In those three years while he served as the EAD, Homan oversaw the removal of more than one million illegal aliens from the United States. Mr. Homan is a 34-year veteran of law enforcement and has nearly 33 years of immigration enforcement experience. He has served as a police officer in New York; a U.S. Border Patrol Agent; a Special Agent with the former U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service; as well as Supervisory Special Agent and Deputy Assistant Director for Investigations. In 1999, Mr. Homan became the Assistant District Director for Investigations (ADDI) in San Antonio, Texas, and three years later transferred to the ADDI position in Dallas, Texas. Upon the creation of ICE, Mr. Homan was named as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge in Dallas and later to the Deputy Special Agent in Charge. In March 2009, Mr. Homan accepted the position of Assistant Director for Enforcement at ICE Headquarters in Washington DC and was subsequently promoted to Deputy Executive Associate Director. Mr. Homan holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and has received numerous awards and special recognitions for his 34 plus years as a federal law enforcement officer and leader. He received the Distinguished Presidential Rank Award in 2015 for his exemplary leadership and extensive accomplishments in the area of immigration enforcement. He also received the Distinguished Service Medal in June 2018 in recognition of exceptionally distinguished and transformational service to strengthen Homeland Security for the United States. Again in 2018 he also received the Law Enforcement Person of the Year Award from the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association that represents over 26,000 federal law enforcement officers. The son of an Army artillery commander, Mr. Wilkie spent his youth at Fort Bragg. Today, he is a colonel in the United States Air Force Reserve assigned to the Office of the Chief of Staff. Before joining the Air Force, he served in the United States Navy Reserve with the Joint Forces Intelligence Command, Naval Special Warfare Group Two, and the Office of Naval Intelligence. Mr. Wilkie has more than 20 years of federal service at the national and international levels. During the George W. Bush Administration, Mr. Wilkie served both Donald Rumsfeld and Robert Gates as Assistant Secretary of Defense from 2005–2009, and he was the youngest senior leader in the Department. Mr. Wilkie was Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and a senior director of the National Security Council under Dr. Condoleezza Rice. He also has extensive experience in the United States Congress, including recent service as Senior Advisor to Senator Thom Tillis and service as Counsel and Advisor on International Security Affairs to the Majority Leader of the United States Senate, the Honorable Trent Lott. Mr. Wilkie shepherded the Senate confirmation process for James Mattis, Robert Gates, and Admiral Mike Mullen (CJCS), and he was responsible for the preparation of General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker for their multiple appearances before the Congress in defense of the Iraqi Surge. Mr. Wilkie was Vice President for Strategic Programs for CH2M HILL, one of the world’s largest engineering and program management firms, where for five years he held program management and advisory assignments as diverse as the London 2012 Summer Olympics and the reform and reorganization of the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense Supply and Logistics System (DE&S). Mr. Wilkie holds an Honors degree from Wake Forest University, a Juris Doctor from Loyola University College of Law in New Orleans, a Master of Laws in International and Comparative Law from Georgetown University, and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. A graduate of the College of Naval Command and Staff, Air Command and Staff College, the United States Army War College, and the Joint Forces Staff College, Mr. Wilkie has published articles in the Naval War College Review, Parameters, Armed Forces Journal International, Air and Space Power Journal, and Proceedings.
