Lost Negro Records

A powerful collection of historical poetry uncovering the Black history omitted from standard school textbooks. Welcome to Aphrocentrik Academy! Where the only rule is that you break every rule that produces oppression. In this bold chapbook, Internationally Ranked, Multi-Award Winning, Former Atlanta Youth Poet Laureate - Ogechi N. Ofodu is your teacher, taking you on a poetic journey through the buried & forgotten histories of Black people across the diaspora. From the hidden Blackness of Cleopatra to the magic resilience of Aunt Jemima, from the fire of Eunice Waymon to the tragedy of Philly’s MOVE9. A curriculum in verse with guest "substitute teachers," Lost Negro Records is part history class, part liberation rally, and part ancestor invocation all told in poems. Endorsed by Glenn A. North, Executive Director at The Bruce A. Watkins Cultural Center, Poet Laureate of the 18th & Vine Jazz District and Former Poet in Residence at The American Jazz Museum. As well as by Asst. Professor Dr. Grace D. Gipson, Ph.D in African-American Studies, Black Future Feminist and Pop Culture Scholar. (Both of whom who feature in the book). This chapbook has been called an entry point for Black people to discuss the history of their ancestors and a text to inspire the next Gwendolyn Brooks or Countee Cullen. This audiobook edition, narrated by the author herself, brings the rhythm, rage, and tenderness of these poems to life in the way they were meant to be experienced, out loud. For lovers of spoken word, Black history, Afrocentric literature, and poetry that doesn't ask for permission.
