385. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991)

7/8/2024
We don’t need to wait for the translation to talk about this movie! Jay and Nate review Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991). Aiming to send the original crew out with a high note, Paramount turned to people who had delivered some of the biggest and best so far. With a dense plot, a limited budget, and a focused crew, the final adventure of the Enterprise heroes had a lot riding on the premise. How well does it deliver? 384. Scream VI (2023)

6/24/2024
We still care about movies! Jay and Anthony from ’Tis the Podcast review Scream VI (2023). Follow Anthony and 'Tis the Podcast at linktree.com/tisthepodcast After the smash requel reset the franchise with new characters, directors Radio Silence moved this entry to the Big Apple for a change of scenery while still incorporating some standard Ghostface tropes mixed with modern sensibilities and issues. Despite of knowing this is the end of the line for these characters, does Scream VI still deliver the chills and thrills or is it a pale imitation of a once-great franchise. 383. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989)

6/9/2024
Row, row, row your starship. Jay and Nate review Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Inspired by a late-night viewing of televangelists and wanting to boldly go in a different direction, William Shatner’s concept for the fifth Star Trek movie was ambitious - too ambitious for the studio and faced budget cuts, outsourced effects, and a general sense of apathy from those involved. However, the cast all talk about what a good time they had making this entry. So is it worthy of re-evaluation after missing audiences in release? Or is this a frontier best left unexplored. 382. Blue Thunder (1983)

5/27/2024
Catch us now and later! Jay and Lindsey review Blue Thunder (1983). 1980s cinema became a fertile ground for the Cold War techno-thilller and Director John Badham had two in 1983 with WarGames and Blue Thunder. Star Roy Scheider and Badham both felt strongly that the dangers of the constant surveillance state as well as military-grade armament of the police were not to be taken lightly. Does this movie make it’s point or flutter into the dust? Find out as Jay and Lindsey review Blue Thunder (1983). --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/filmstrip/support

381. Rambo (2008)

5/13/2024
The legacy sequel we didn't know we needed. Jay and guests Matt from Film Feast, Andy from Imperial Scum, and Carmelita Valdez McCoy track through the jungles of Rambo (2008). It was 20 years since Rambo had any presence on the big screen. Stallone had a career resurgence with Rocky Balboa. He returned to his other franchise in attempt to Mary the psychological aspects of First Blood with the fun action tropes of parts 2 and 3. How well did it work? Listen as Jay welcome guests Matt Bledsoe, Andy Gorham, and Carmelita Valdez-McKoy for this review. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/filmstrip/support

380. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)

4/29/2024
We will try to make the best guess we can. Jay and Nate review Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986). Part of the ongoing Star Trek Retrospective Series. After the successes of parts 2 and 3, another entry was inevitable. But the creators - and many of the cast members - felt like they needed to lean more into comedy after the stark action and drama of the series so far. Did the gamble to combine chuckles with a time-travel, fish-out-of-water story work? Find out on the latest installment in our Star Trek retrospective series. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/filmstrip/support

379. Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1995)

4/22/2024
A horror sequel via Coast to Coast AM sensibilities. Jay and Nick continue their journey through this series with Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1995). Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger were not yet household names when this fourth entry was filmed. By the time it found release, the studio was trying to cash in on their stardom by hiding what has to be one of the boldest turns in an horror series. Did the conspiracy-theory chills work? Or is this a mere cash-grab desperately trying to find a new audience? Tune in as Jay and Nick continue their journey through the TCM series. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/filmstrip/support

4/9/2024
We’ve been calling our shot for 14 years. Step up to the plate as Lindsey, Ron, and Brian review Major League (1989). In 1989, Director David S. Ward blended the tried and true sports drama with a good dose of comedy to sell and underdog story about a group of lovable losers chasing baseball glory in the warm fires of the Cuyahoga River. Can Tom Berenger pull off being a sex symbol? Can Charlie Sheen be funny? Can anyone believe the MLB Cleveland team could ever be good?
