2. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

4/1/2024
We started our season at the apex of the Heist movie genre, so now we're trying something a little less traditional: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. We talk about the benefits of less-traditional heist films like this one, discuss the toxic fanbase surrounding the franchise, and explore the benefits of building a game that will absolutely end in a total party kill. Don't lose hope though, because hope is the one thing we all have working in our advantage! Please let us know what you think about our new season! Special: Oscar Predictions 2024

3/4/2024
Rafe and Drew are still overdue on our next episode (it's coming! we promise!) but we wanted to get something on the feed for those of you waiting. Rafe does an annual Oscars prediction episode on his other podcast, so we're sharing it here as well. WARNING: This episode does contain a small amount of explicit language. It's not much, but it's different from how we normally run things, so we wanted to make sure that was clear. Rafe brings together a panel of movie experts to discuss this year's Oscar nominees and make their predictions. Join Rafe along with Thomas Mariani, Emily Slade, and Mel Gore as they discuss and debate the big awards showdown between Oppenheimer, Barbie, and a really strong list of nominees, ultimately making their predictions about who will be taking home an Oscar at this coming weekend's festivities. This year's panel of experts is made up of: Cinema to the Letter PodcastWhy This Film? podcastTangent 1985 YouTube channel Please let us know what you think about our new season! Special: Welcome to the Party

12/24/2023
With all that's been going on thanks to the holiday season, real life, and more, we are overdue with our regularly scheduled episode, but Drew and Rafe sat down to record a special holiday special that we're calling "Never Say Die: Welcome to the Party" (because Die Hard is a Christmas movie). We talk about some of our favorite holiday movies as well as some of our favorite movies and gaming experiences of 2023. We hope you have a happy holiday season and we'll be back soon with our Ocean's Eleven Inter-MISSION episode and more of the heist season! Please let us know what you think about our new season! 1. Ocean’s Eleven (2001)

11/23/2023
We're getting the band back together and kicking off our Heist season with 2001's Ocean's Eleven, one of the best contemporary heist movies we could find. We gush over Danny and Rusty's chemistry and the way the movie allows each of its specialists to shine before we steal songs from the soundtrack, draft the beginning of our heist crew, and talk about gamifying flashbacks and ticking clocks. It may look like we're stumbling our way through this, but you'll learn by the end that it was all part of our plan! Please let us know what you think about our new season! Season Two: The Zero Session

11/6/2023
We're back! Drew and Rafe sit down and outline expectations for our second season of Never Say Die! as we dive into the Heist film genre. What makes a heist film? What specifically makes up our definition of a heist film? What segments from the show are returning? What's being cut? And why won't this be the only time you hear us talk about Hudson Hawk? All of your questions will be addressed within! Okay, maybe not all of your questions. But some of them. Have an opinion about our film rankings or our final draft picks? Season One Finale

9/19/2023
It's time to wrap up our Kids on Bikes season so Drew and Rafe return to rank the movies they've watched over the season, both as films and as Kids on Bikes movies. Then, it's time for the final episode draft, where we whittle down the characters we've picked to a final team of seven mundane kids and one peripheral adult. Who will stay and who will be cut? You'll have to listen to find out. Before everything is done, however, there's one last piece of information to share: the topic for our second season! Special: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

8/21/2023
We're getting one more movie discussion in before we call it a total wrap on our Kids on Bikes season, mostly because we've been called out for calling The Goonies the movie that started the Kids on Bikes movement. Watching E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial means facing our fears, much like many of the characters we've discussed this season. Can Rafe and Drew overcome their nightmares to see the beauty of this all-time classic? We also discuss other movies that didn't quite make the cut for our first season. Although we didn't gamify the movie this time, we hope you'll still interact with the show. You can find us on Instagram and Twitter or email us at theneversaydiepodcast@gmail.com. Inter-MISSION: Vampires vs. the Bronx

7/31/2023
It's Inter-MISSION time! Drew and Rafe are back to look at Vampires vs. the Bronx and things they might have missed the first time around. Even bigger, however, is the release of the Kids on Bikes: Second Edition rules to Kickstarter backers, so Drew and Rafe spend a lot of time talking about some of the changes that have made their way to the final cut and their roles in the test-play group. They dive into listener feedback, give their answers for Podcast Homework, and chat about Crowd-Funded projects that have caught their eyes recently. This is the last movie of the Kids on Bikes season, however there's a lot to do to close up the season, so while we're at it, we're throwing in a BONUS MOVIE DISCUSSION! 12. Vampires vs. the Bronx (2020)

7/10/2023
It's time for our last movie selection of this season: 2020's Vampires vs. the Bronx. Given the film's references (both intentional and unintentional) to other Kids on Bikes movies, it turns out this is the perfect film to wrap up our Kids on Bikes season. Rafe and Drew talk about the movie and then revisit some past ideas of how to best gamify the film for use at your gaming table. Oh, and there's the most dramatic draft pick of the season in here, for those who like that part of the show. Hopefully you'll find some content in here for use at your own gaming table. 11. The Gate (1987)

6/5/2023
We return to the '80s for Rafe's last pick of our first season: 1987's The Gate. This is a movie that Rafe chose blindly. Did this go as well as his first blind pick, The Kid Who Would Be King? Rafe and Drew talk about the movie and then start to dive into ways to open... and close... The Gate for the players at your gaming table (hint: it has nothing to do with Zoids... or does it?). 10. It: Chapter One (2017)

5/1/2023
Buckle up, folks, because there's a lot to talk about with this month's selection, It: Chapter One, making for one of our longest episodes to date. Not only do Drew and Rafe talk about this 2017 film, but they also go into the 1990 miniseries, the original novel, and even a couple of references to the 2019 follow up, so be warned: spoilers abound! After an in-depth discussion about the film and our latest Kids on Bikes Draft picks, Drew brings a slew of ideas on how to adapt the game for a terrifying game experience. Inter-MISSION: Stand By Me

4/17/2023
It's Inter-MISSION time! Drew and Rafe follow up their conversation about Stand By Me with ideas they might have missed the first time around. They dive into listener feedback, which includes the birth of a new segment for the future: Podcast Homework. For this month's Podcast Homework, they reveal the movies that make their definitive list discussed in the last episode. They chat about Crowd-Funded projects that have caught their eyes recently or, in the case of Mythic Games, have been causing some serious problems in the gaming community. Finally, they reveal the movie they'll be talking about for our next episode (and it's an exciting one!). 9. Stand By Me (1986)

4/3/2023
It's Rafe's turn to have a nostalgia pick with this month's selection, Stand By Me. Despite Rafe's skepticism about whether this would make a good pick or not (including an early apology), Rafe and Drew really dig in and find quite a bit to like, both about the movie and about gaming ideas that can come from the film, thus proving not every "nostalgia pick" has to be a bad selection for use at the gaming table. There's a lot of talk on here about storytelling and we'd love to know what storytelling systems you like beyond the ones Drew mentions. How do you like Rafe and Drew's different approaches to a storytelling subsystem? Let us know by interacting with the show on Instagram and Twitter or email us at theneversaydiepodcast@gmail.com. Inter-MISSION: The Quest aka Frog Dreaming

2/13/2023
It's Inter-MISSION time! Drew and Rafe follow up their conversation about The Quest (aka Frog Dreaming) with ideas they might have missed the first time around, including their usual forgetfulness regarding the score and several other sources of information Drew found regarding the film and fan community. They dive into listener feedback, including the birth of a new game mechanic inspired by a listener and The Quest. 8. The Quest aka Frog Dreaming (1986)

1/23/2023
After watching BMX Bandits and talking with filmmaker Brian Trenchard-Smith, it only makes sense to look at his other "kids on bikes" movie, The Quest (aka Frog Dreaming, aka Go Kids!). While this is a movie Drew grew up loving, we weren't exactly sure it fit into our current theme, but this was too good an opportunity to discuss it to pass by. Is it a "kids on bikes" movie? How do you deal with a protagonist that needs no real help? And how do you look past some of the movie's more problematic elements? We talk about all of that and more with our deep dive into The Quest. What approach would you use to run a Frog Dreaming inspired session? How would you deal with an overpoweed protagonist like Cody? Let us know what inspiration this film has given you. Interact with the show on Instagram and Twitter or email us at theneversaydiepodcast@gmail.com. Inter-MISSION: BMX Bandits

1/9/2023
It's Inter-MISSION time! Drew and Rafe (finally) follow up their conversation about BMX Bandits with ideas they might have missed the first time around, mostly involving how talking with filmmaker Brian Trenchard-Smith impacted their appreciation of the film. They discuss the highly successful Kids on Bikes Second Edition Kickstarter, which they participated in both as playtesters and as backers. Then, they use the 2nd edition information to trope the new characters they've picked in the draft. Finally, they chat about Kickstarters that have come and gone in the time that the show was on break, discuss the future goals for the podcast (which you can chime in on) and reveal the movie they'll be talking about for our next episode.
