A Hard Day's Night (1964) - with author Kristin Massey
4/14/2026
Greetings! In this week's episode, we’re diving into A Hard Day’s Night (1964)—the film that captured Beatlemania at full throttle and quietly changed the language of movies, music, and pop culture.
And joining us this time around is Kristin Massey author of The J.O.A.T. Life Lessons from a Jill of All Trades.
I'm super excited to share this conversation with Kristin. She is a multitalented creative with an exciting story. First up, she toured the nation as a recording artist with her band, Red Siren (All Is Forgiven; Mercury/Polygram). She has since leveraged her vocal talents to become a successful voice-over artist for Fortune 500 companies such as FedEx, Sysco, and VISA. Oh! She also makes a mean cocktail too.
Enjoy!

Josie and the Pussycats (2001) - with Edward Miskie
4/3/2026
Greetings! In this week's episode we discuss Josie and the Pussycats, the neon-soaked, bubblegum pop comedy that crashed at the box office.
At first glance, Josie and the Pussycats is a teen movie about a girl band hitting it big. But underneath it's an absolutely brilliant, razor-sharp satire about consumer culture, corporate control, and the way music (and identity) gets sold to us.
And walking us through it (between some hilariously astute takes on Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut) is Edward Miskie (writer/producer/sometimes performer).
Edward is also the founder of The Remission Film Festival, which premiers for the first time April 17th, 2026. This festival focuses on creators who shed light on the experience of life before, during, & after cancer.
This is an episode you must hear.

Caddyshack (1980) - with podcaster Kirsten Rudberg
3/30/2026
Greeting! In this week's Stamper Cinema, we tee up one of the most chaotic, quotable, and beloved comedies of the 1980s—Caddyshack. Returning the podcast to talk about it is podcaster extraordinaire and all-around amazing human, Kirsten Rudberg (Byte Sized Blessings)!
Directed by Harold Ramis, this golf-course-set comedy throws structure out the window and replaces it with Bill Murray’s improvised monologues, Rodney Dangerfield’s relentless insults, Chevy Chase’s effortless cool, and a gopher with a serious attitude problem.
Set at the prestigious Bushwood Country Club, Caddyshack explores class conflict (slob vs snob), rebellion, and absurdity through a loose collection of characters who all seem to be in different movies and somehow create magic together.
Despite mixed reviews upon release, Caddyshack became a massive hit and a cornerstone of American comedy, influencing generations of comedians and earning its place as one of the most quoted films ever made.
In this episode, Kirsten and I dive into behind-the-scenes madness, unforgettable performances, iconic lines, and the strange alchemy that turned a barely-scripted production into a cult classic. Plus - Kirsten gives the gopher the respect it deserves. Enjoy!

The Blues Brothers (1980) - with actor Kyle Merrick
3/6/2026
Greetings! In this episode of Stamper Cinema, we’re putting the band back together to talk about the 1980 cult comedy classic The Blues Brothers. What began as a quirky musical sketch on Saturday Night Live somehow evolved into one of the most unique films of its era.
Joining us to break it all down is actor Kyle Merrick. We explore how a genuine love for blues and soul music turned a late-night comedy bit into a real touring band, and eventually into a major Hollywood production directed by John Landis.
The episode covers the film’s simple but effective story: newly released ex-con Jake Blues and his brother Elwood embark on a “mission from God” to reunite their band and save the Catholic orphanage that raised them. Along the way they dodge police, anger rival musicians, and leave an absolutely insane trail of destruction across Chicago.
We also look at the film’s incredible musical lineup, featuring legendary performers like James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and Cab Calloway.
Other topics include:
The chaotic and ambitious production of the film
The record-setting car chases and stunt work
The lasting legacy of The Blues Brothers as one of the most successful films based on an SNL sketch
The movie’s cultural impact and continued popularity with audiences
Of course, no conversation about The Blues Brothers would be complete without revisiting some of the film’s most iconic and quotable lines, including the legendary “106 miles to Chicago” speech and the famous declaration that the brothers are “on a mission from God.”
Enjoy!

1/30/2026
Greetings! In this episode we dive deep beneath the surface with The Hunt for Red October, the classic Cold War thriller that proves tension doesn’t need explosions. Directed by John McTiernan and based on Tom Clancy’s bestselling novel, the film stars Sean Connery as legendary Soviet submarine captain Marko Ramius and Alec Baldwin as CIA analyst Jack Ryan.
We break down the film’s plot, themes, and legacy, while unpacking why this remains one of the smartest military thrillers ever made. The conversation explores Jack Ryan as a character, focusing on Baldwin’s more analytical, grounded portrayal and how it compares to later versions of Ryan across film and television.

Flix & Sips: A Few Good Men (1992)
1/24/2026
Greetings! In this week’s episode of Stamper Cinema, we’re raising a glass for a Flix & Sips discussion on Rob Reiner’s A Few Good Men. Written by Aaron Sorkin and loaded with endlessly quotable dialogue, this 1992 courtroom classic pits military authority against moral responsibility.
Join us as John and I break down the plot surrounding the death of Private William Santiago, the infamous “Code Red,” and Tom Cruise’s Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee, in one of the most important performances of his career. The conversation also dives into military etiquette, uniforms, and rank, and how power and hierarchy shape every scene in the film.
From Rob Reiner’s steady direction to Sorkin’s sharp screenplay, and of course Jack Nicholson’s iconic turn as Colonel Jessup (plus a few Nicholson anecdotes), we cover why this movie still hits hard more than 30 years later. Enjoy!

Flix & Sips: Born on the Fourth of July (1989)
1/13/2026
Greetings! In this week's episode John and I tackle one of the most powerful films of the Vietnam era: Oliver Stone’s Born on the Fourth of July. Starring Tom Cruise in a career-defining performance, the film tells the true story of Ron Kovic, a small-town patriot whose belief in duty and country is shattered by the realities of war.
We break down Kovic’s journey from idealistic Marine to paralyzed veteran and outspoken activist, discussing the film’s raw depiction of combat, trauma, and a system that failed the soldiers it sent to fight. The conversation also explores Oliver Stone’s deeply personal direction, the film’s balance between patriotism and protest, and why it remains so emotionally relevant.
Then, several drinks later, we devote an extended segment to Tom Cruise’s career, using Born on the Fourth of July as the moment he proved he was more than a movie star. From Top Gun to A Few Good Men to Mission: Impossible, we look at Cruise’s evolution, ambition, and lasting impact on Hollywood. Enjoy!

Jackie Brown (1997) - with author John Bukowski
1/3/2026
Greetings! In this episode of Stamper Cinema, we take a deep dive into Jackie Brown, Quentin Tarantino’s soulful, character-driven crime film and one of the most underrated entries in his filmography.
Based on Elmore Leonard’s novel Rum Punch, Jackie Brown stars Pam Grier in a career-defining performance as a middle-aged flight attendant caught between the ATF and a dangerous gun runner played by, Samuel L. Jackson. Unlike Tarantino’s flashier films, Jackie Brown unfolds as a patient, mature story about aging and survival.
Rounding out the this insanely talented cast includes Robert Forster in an Oscar-nominated role as bail bondsman Max Cherry, Robert De Niro as the hapless Louis, Bridget Fonda, and Michael Keaton in a crossover appearance from Out of Sight.
If you’ve ever overlooked Jackie Brown in Tarantino’s catalog, this episode makes the case for why it deserves another look. Enjoy!

Harvey (1950) - with writer/filmmaker Brent Lindstrom
12/16/2025
Greetings! In this week on Stamper Cinema, we revisit one of Hollywood’s most beloved and quietly subversive classics: Harvey (1950), starring James Stewart in one of the most charming performances of his career.
Directed by Henry Koster and adapted from Mary Chase’s Pulitzer Prize–winning stage play, Harvey tells the story of Elwood P. Dowd, a gentle, affable man whose best friend just happens to be a six-foot-three invisible rabbit named Harvey. What begins as a light comedy slowly reveals itself as a thoughtful meditation on kindness, conformity, mental health, and the strange rules society uses to decide what’s “normal.”
Joining us this time around is writer/filmmaker Brent Lindstrom. In addition to breaking down why this film still resonates today, Brent is extremely proud to share his fantastic recent novel One for the Money, Two for the Soul. Enjoy!

Flix & Sips: Platoon (1986)
12/5/2025
Greetings! In this week's FLIX & SIPS episode of Stamper Cinema, we head into the jungle to break down Oliver Stone’s Platoon (1986) - one of the most raw, emotional, and as John says, 'Influential war films ever made.'
Drawing from Stone’s own combat experience, the film explores the moral battle between two opposing forces within one platoon: the compassion of Sergeant Elias vs the ruthless survival instincts of Sergeant Barnes.
We dig into the film’s themes of brotherhood, fear, leadership, and the psychological cost of war, while also examining the unforgettable performances, iconic cinematography, and the haunting use of Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings.” Oh, and because this is FLIX & SIPS, there's much beer drinking too. Bordello of Blood (A watchalong episode with writer Alan Katz)
10/27/2025
Happy Halloween, boils and ghouls! This week on a very special episode of Stamper Cinema, we’re diving deep into one of the wildest horror-comedies of the 1990s — Bordello of Blood! But even better we're making it a watchalong with the film's co-writer Alan Katz!
This blood-soaked romp was the second feature film spun out of HBO’s legendary Tales from the Crypt series... and also its last. SAD.
The movie stars Dennis Miller as a snarky private eye who stumbles upon a secret underground brothel run by vampires — led by none other than Lilith, played by Angie Everhart. Also along for the ride: Erika Eleniak, Corey Feldman, and, of course, a cackling appearance from the Crypt Keeper himself.
CRYPT KEEPER NOTE: To properly join in with this Bordello of Blood episode, hop over to SHUDDER for a free trial (link below) and hit play with Alan and Andrew do. They promise to make it a fang-tastic Halloween discussion *hehehehe!
