The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have a chat with each other about their experience attending the Arizona Opera production of Puccini's "Tosca." We were able to get a backstage tour as well as see both casts of the production. It was absolutely amazing, from the voices to the orchestra and the staging and scenery used. It was one of the highlights of our opera experiences. Arizona Opera and Joe Specter have hit a home run with "Tosca." Have a listen, and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did. About The Two Gay Geeks Ben and Keith are The Two Gay Geeks behind TG Geeks Webcast, where our motto is “You name it, We talk about it.” ® Our website, tggeeks.com, is the headquarters for our Webcast as well as articles and reviews on a variety of subjects. We cover all aspects of Geek-dom and Nerd-ery. As our motto implies, we talk about almost anything. We do tend to talk more about Sci-Fi, Comics, Film, Horror, and Genre, but we have been known to talk about Opera and Disneyland on occasion. We have become passionate about supporting Independent Creators; whether that is film, comics, music, or authors, we are always open to talking with creators of all types. So, come along and join our wildest ride in the podosphere. About Arizona Opera ☀☀☀ Arizona Opera, originally the Tucson Opera Company, was founded in 1971 by a dedicated group of opera enthusiasts. Its inaugural season featured two performances of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville in Tucson and by the 1976 – 1977 season Arizona Opera was performing complete seasons in both Tucson and Phoenix. Arizona Opera produces fully-staged operas, concerts, and collaborative programs throughout the state of Arizona each year, and is among only a handful of companies in the U.S. that regularly performs in more than one city. Having just celebrated its 50th Anniversary Season, Arizona Opera mission is to elevate the transformative power of storytelling through music, cultivating community and strengthening a state and people as adventurous and diverse as the place they call home. Since its inaugural year in 1971, Arizona Opera has produced more than 200 operas and concerts. The company's artistic history is rich with a blend of opera’s traditional repertoire featuring baroque, bel canto, and verismo works, turn-of-the-century masterpieces, operettas, and contemporary American operas. About Tosca A political thriller, set in Rome in June 1800, Tosca tells a story of passionate, yet tender love, jealousy, betrayal, lust, and self-sacrifice. Tosca’s action takes place over a span of less than 24 hours during the Napoleonic wars and amidst great political unrest, making it one of the most dramatic thrill rides in opera. The plot centers around three main characters: Rome’s diva Floria Tosca, her lover Mario Cavaradossi, and the corrupt Chief of Police, Baron Scarpia. Scarpia has long lusted after Tosca, and when he suspects Cavaradossi of assisting an escaped political prisoner, he seizes the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. He will manipulate Tosca into revealing the prisoner’s hiding place and Cavaradossi’s involvement, so he can have Tosca for himself. When Cavaradossi is captured, Scarpia offers Tosca a horrific bargain – she must give herself to Scarpia, or her lover is killed. What will she choose, and who will survive? ❀❀❀❀ In our second segment, we chat briefly about how to see “Tosca” in Tucson, The “Carmen” Graphic Novel, and Mulligan's Manor. We also highlight recent articles posted to tggeeks.com in the past week. As always, we have our birthdays, and we have the ever-popular feedback segment. We welcome your feedback. The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have a chat with Trisha from Winter Horror Fest and the event they are producing later on this month, A Fright Before Christmas. This event is in support of Mulligan House, a group home for at-risk LGBTQ+ kids about to age out of the Foster system. It is a worthy cause. We plan to support this event and encourage you to visit and sign up for their Angel Tree for these kids. Have a listen, and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did. About Trisha "Whisper VanKelt" Trisha, also known by her stage name, Whisper VanKelt, is a self-described nerd, artist, performer, seamstress, custom clothing and costume designer, and embodiment of chaotic good. Even her stage name came from her character in teenage games of old-school D&D. Trisha has been involved in every capacity of event production, from performing to planning, promoting to producing, set building to choreography, hosting, and everything in between. She currently runs Thinly Veiled Az, a local theater troupe and shadow cast, performing regular showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in multiple venues, and has found creative ways to turn each show into a production, incorporating opening acts, DJs, vendors, photographers, and other elements to creatively keep the events lively, unique, and usually ridiculous. You'll find her designing costumes, building props, teaching roles, emceeing, and even performing as Magenta. She figures out how to be in a million places at once, and though always chaotic, she somehow keeps everything in place, and the events are certainly entertaining and memorable. With a love of all things horror, the next step for her needed to be finding a way to fill the huge horror convention void in Arizona. After months of brainstorming and frantic note scribbling, she saw a path forward, and one fishnet and combat boot step at a time, she started the journey. Partnering up with Alexis, they founded a new company, and Winter HorrorFest was born. About Winter Horror Fest ☀☀☀ Winter HorrorFest presents The Fright Before Christmas, a family-friendly, Christmas-themed horror convention December 16-18 at The Phoenix Center for the Arts. Celebrity guests include Eugene Clark (Land of the Dead), SFX Master Mick Strawn, Eileen Dietz (The Exorcist), John Dugan (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Dr. Paul Koudounaris (Hexencult), Stephen Biro (Unearthed Films) and Father Vampire. Phoenix Ghostbusters will be on site for fun and photo ops, too! Vendors, food trucks, a costume contest for cash and prizes, a candy crawl, and so many more exciting events and activities await you at this 3-day event. Special movie screenings with live q&a, an incredible SFX presentation by Mick Strawn, and even a pizza party during the screening of DTLA Film Festival nominee Murder Pizza with a live q&a by writer and director Elizabeth Dowland are included in your ticket price! As a special part of this event, we are raising funds and awareness for Mulligan's Manor, a local family setting group home for at-risk LGBTQ youth in the foster system. Our goal is to give them the best Christmas ever and show them that there is a whole community ready to love, embrace, guide, and assist them as they age out of the system. The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have a chat with each other about their activities of last weekend at the Los Angeles International Film Festival. We got to participate in several events for the festival and reconnect with our good friend Patricia Chica and some of the cast members of “Montréal Girls.” We had a little time on Saturday night and met up with one of our writers, DaVette See, and her husband Rob. We had a wonderful dinner, great conversation, and lots of laughter. Saturday the 12th, we had the good fortune and treat to see the Elton John “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” concert. What an amazing concert it was. We also gave a shout-out to two more Independent Creators; Zachry Wheeler, author of Max and the Multiverse Series and spinoff stories from that series, and Fanbase Press run by Barbra and Bryant Dillon; they are a small independent publishing company serving diverse and underrepresented communities in the Comics/ Graphic Novel Genre. The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 chatted about several things that were planned over this last weekend, such as attending the Los Angeles International Film Festival for a screening of “Montréal Girls” with our good friend Patricia Chica and several cast members. We also discussed several items soon to be released, albeit they were all Disney-related items, especially Strange World. We gave a shout-out to two of our Independent Creator friends, Jake Shandy and Tommy Cannon. Both have Patreon Pages and several projects going at once. Supporting these two very talented individuals is worth a few bucks a month. And finally, we talked about Sand Diego WHO Con. I am not sure how we missed that in our last episode, but this is a great small-ish Con (and everyone knows we are all about supporting the small Cons) with some great programming and guests all supporting Doctor Who. The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have a chat with Author Mason Thomas and good friend Marc Biagi about a new audiobook Kickstarter they have set up for Mason's book, The Shadow Mark. We chat with Mason about how he came to writing and specifically about The Shadow Mark with a few side trips as usual. We chat with Marc about the audiobook Kickstarter and how he became involved. After the interview portion, please continue to listen for a clip from The Shadow Mark. Attached below in the article are three clips of Marc reading Mason's work as well as the link to the Kickstarter. Have a listen, and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did. About Mason Thomas Mason is an author of speculative fiction, and his works center on strong gay protagonists. He currently has three novels, each a standalone story. LORD MOUSE was nominated for “best novel” by Gaylactic Spectrum Awards. THE SHADOW MARK was also nominated for “Best speculative novel” by both the INDIE and LLAMDA Awards. THE WITCHSTONE AMULET is his most recent release. His body of work was recognized by the QUEER INDY awards, taking third place in the category of BEST SPECULATIVE FICTION. He also has a collection of three short stories titled THREE TALES. His work is currently available on Amazon in digital and print forms. More novels are in the works and on the way. While growing up, learning he was gay, Mason rarely found any representation in the speculative novels he was reading. In his writing journey, he's made it his mission to bring strong, authentic, and positive gay characters into speculative fiction, into the kind of stories he ached for as a kid. Since THE SHADOW MARK debuted back in 2017, Mason has wanted to have this story put into audiobook format. It was a chance meeting at San Diego Comic-Con that brought Mason and Marc Biagi together. Marc is a highly respected, firmly established, and wildly talented voice actor. The two hit it off instantly, sharing the belief that there needs to be more quality LGBTQ+ content in the speculative world! Mason quickly knew that Marc was the talent he needed for this story. And so a partnership began! Website: http://masonthomasbooks.com/index.html/ About Marc Biagi With decades of experience in the industry, I've been doing voice work for clients across the US and the world. I'm a strong character actor and leverage my diverse accent & dialect work in my roles. You might know me as Vector the Crocodile and Professor Gerald Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog games, Strider Hiryu in Strider, Brian Basco in the Runaway adventure games, and many recent and popular roles in Star Trek Online. However, I have hundreds of titles under my belt, and I'm no stranger to storytelling with many titles for major educational publishers. And now, I'm making in-roads into the AudioBook world! I'm a huge fan of fantasy and SF and have read them voraciously for decades and am honored and excited to bring Mason's characters and world from print into the audio world. And, as part of the LGBTQ+ community, I'm also proud to be associated with Mason's works that feature characters who reflect us. The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have a chat with David R Slayton about his new book, Deadbeat Druid, releasing on October 18th. By the way, it is available for pre-order. We chat a bit about his background for those who do not know him and the Adam Binder series. As always, we had a great time talking with David and learning more about this series and what he has in store coming down the road. So please have a listen, and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did. About David R Slayton David R. Slayton grew up in Oklahoma, where finding fantasy novels was pretty challenging and finding fantasy novels with diverse characters was downright impossible. Now he lives in Denver, Colorado and writes the books he always wanted to read. White Trash Warlock, David’s first novel, was a finalist for the Colorado Book Award. In 2015, David founded Trick or Read, an annual initiative to give out books along with candy to children on Halloween as well as uplift lesser-known authors or those from marginalized backgrounds. Find him online at www.DavidRSlayton.com. About Deabeat Druid ☀☀☀ The living cannot be allowed to infect the dead. Adam Binder has lost what matters most to him. Having finally learned the true identity of the warlock preying on his family, what was supposed to be a final confrontation with the fiend instead became a trap that sent Adam’s beloved Vicente into the realm of the dead, where none living are meant to be. Bound by debt, oath, and love, Adam blazes his own trail into the underworld to get Vicente back, and to end the threat of the warlock once and for all. But the road to hell is paved with far more than good intentions. Demons are hungry, and ghosts are relentless, and what awaits Adam in the underworld is nothing he is prepared to face. If that weren’t enough, Adam has one more thing he must do if he and Vicente are to return to the world of the living: find the lost heart of Death herself. ❀❀❀❀ In our second segment, we chat about Rings Of Power and Grimm, which we just started rewatching. The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have a chat with KD Edwards, author of “The Tarot Sequence” series of books. FAIR WARNING: SPOILERS. KD shares some spoilers about The Hourglass Throne, the third book in the series and the end of the first trilogy. It is always exciting to get some background on some of the goings on, especially all at once like this. As always, we are entertained and have such a good conversation when KD joins us. Please listen; we hope you enjoy this as much as we did. About KD Edwards K.D. lives and writes in North Carolina, but has spent time in Massachusetts, Maine, Colorado, New Hampshire, Montana, and Washington. (Common theme until NC: Snow. So, so much snow.) Mercifully short careers in food service, interactive television, corporate banking, retail management, and bariatric furniture has led to a much less short career in Higher Education. The first book in his urban fantasy series THE TAROT SEQUENCE, called THE LAST SUN, was published by Pyr in June 2018. The third installment, THE HOURGLASS THRONE, is available now, and THE EIDOLON, the first official companion novel, is available for pre-order through Rainbow Crate. About The Tarot Sequence ☀☀☀ The Hourglass Throne Rune Saint John has finally assumed the Sun Throne and now must deal with the political machinations that run throughout the rest of the ruling Arcanum and New Atlantis. Rune and his bodyguard Brand struggle with the past as much with the present as they search for allies among those who watched Rune be tortured while his father’s court fell. They are also investigating a powerful barrier created around the rejuvenation center—one that hides its own bloody, painful aftermath. As Rune and Brand uncover a formidable enemy tied to New Atlantis’s history, they find time is against them to protect their growing found family, including Rune’s lover Addam. Everyone will have to face their past transgressions, long buried secrets, and the flow of time itself, as Rune continues to make choices that will forever change his future. High stakes and humorous dialogue continue to highlight the slow reveal of the long-game plotlines. The ending of this first trilogy (in a planned nine-book series) creates a spectacular story arc, leaving readers with as many questions as answers.
