CV Museum Who, What, When Podcast #16

5/2/2024
Join Jodi and Olaf and their guest Mike Larson, the author of "Dear Delia." It's all about Henry Young's Civil War letters from his time in the Seventh Wisconsin. Mike stumbled upon these gems back in his college days at the UW-Madison archives and just had to turn them into a book to showcase Young’s experiences. Henry, originally from New York, settled in Wisconsin in 1850 where he met Delia. You'll follow Henry's journey through the war, reading his heartfelt letters mainly to Delia and sometimes to his father-in-law. Delia was no slouch, she went to Platteville Academy and then Knoxville College, showing she was quite the scholar. But here's the kicker: we don't get to see Delia's side of things. No letters from her have been found, and with no living relatives of Henry's to shed light, it's a mystery. Henry remained in the Civil War until the loss of his daughter Laura, prompting his discharge. A key takeaway was Captain Young put the country’s interests before his own. Listen in to hear all about the book, Captain Young, and more. Don’t forget to grab a copy of "Dear Delia" and dive into a slice of history with Mike Larson. And don't forget to check out what's happening over at the Chippewa Valley Museum on their socials! #history #civilwar #AmericanHistory #podcast #wisconsin
