Final Friday: Ice Spiders (2007)

5/3/2024
Experimental spiders escape from a lab, killing and eating anyone in their path. Ice Spiders is a movie we couldn't help, but love. With its ski vibe, crazy dialogue, and multi-colored spiders, we couldn't get enough. We watched this movie first years ago and it didn't get old. There's something about the energy brought to kill experimental spiders that escaped from a lab that is so much fun. Watch the movie and catch our review. 209 - The Lost Boys (1987) Review

4/29/2024
After moving to Santa Clara, two brothers soon realize their new town is home to vampires. The Lost Boys is the last movie of Retro Reel and while we are sad to end this amazing retro vibe, we were excited to discuss this movie. The Lost Boys has an amazing cast of Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, Jamie Gertz, Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, and Dianne Wiest. The film adds some new elements to vampire movies, has an amazing soundtrack, and is hilarious. Watch the movie and catch our review. Final Friday: Monster Brawl (2011)

4/26/2024
8 monsters set in different divisions, fight in a wrestling match for their lives in a cursed graveyard. Monster Brawl is a lot of fun for both horror fans and wrestling fans. It's awesome to see classic monsters fight against each other in a ring to the death. The detail that went into the promos and the guest stars like Jimmy Hart, Herb Dean, and Kevin Nash were amazing to see. Even if you're not a horror fan, it's fun to see monsters fight each other to the death in a wild ride that's both funny and comical. Watch the movie and catch our review. 208 - Maximum Overdrive (1986) Review

4/22/2024
Machines come alive and start killing everyone as a group of people shelter themselves at a rest stop. Maximum Overdrive is the only movie Stephen King directed and was inspired by his short story, "Trucks." While the characters are a mess and the acting is not the best, this movie is crazy and a fun watch. It's hard to explain anything that happens or make the movie cohesive, but it's engaging. It's a movie that we couldn't take seriously and has a wild opening and ending that are truly out of this world. Watch the movie and catch our review. Final Friday: Five Across the Eyes (2006)

4/19/2024
5 teenagers are lost on their way back home and are chased by an SUV after they accidentally bump into it when stopping at a store. Five Across the Eyes is a movie we watched a while ago and had no choice, but to discuss it. The movie is a relentless car chase for the duration of the film and we remember all the screams and how loud the movie was while they drive away from an SUV the whole movie. 207 - Maniac Cop (1988) Review

4/15/2024
People are getting killed in New York City by a killer wearing a police uniform. Maniac Cop is just about the perfect movie for Retro Reel. It's got a lot of action, 80's jokes, and an amazing cast of Tom Atkins, Bruce Campbell, and Robert Z'Dar. We've been looking to discuss this movie for a while and were happy to get a chance to watch it. The story was engaging and the action kept us interested throughout the movie. We were also excited to see how awesome the kills were. Watch the movie and catch our review. Final Friday: The Last House in the Woods (2006)

4/12/2024
A young couple are taken captive by a crazy family who live in the backwoods. It's the 100th episode of Final Friday and it only made sense for us to discuss a movie that meant a lot to us. The Last House in the Woods was the first low budget horror movie we watched together and although our thoughts on the movie changed since then, it always has been a movie we've looked back on. This movie is very bloody and the characters are crazy, but it's a fun ride all the way through. Watch the movie and catch our review. 206 - The Hitcher (1986) Review

4/8/2024
After a young man kicks a killer hitchhiker out of his car, he is relentlessly stalked by him as the hitcher begins to set him up for his crimes. The Hitcher is such a fun movie that we couldn't wait to discuss it. After watching it a 2nd time, it still continues to keep us engaged and make us come up with crazy theories. Ruter Hauer's portrayal of a serial killing hitchhiker on the road is so ominous and memorable. His chemistry with C. Thomas Howell throughout the movie is great as the two are constantly going at it in a relentless battle that culminates in a fantastic showdown. Watch the movie and catch our review. Final Friday: The Final Rose (2022)

4/5/2024
A single mother is granted the opportunity to find love on a dating show called Love at Last. As the contestants each start getting murdered, she realizes love may not be worth it on this reality dating show. The Final Rose was a movie we were so excited to discuss and it lived up to our expectations and more. It was funny and engaging all the way through. It was an excellent parody of reality dating shows, especially The Bachelor. It also made us think of the craziness that happens on the set of reality tv shows. Watch the movie and catch our review. 205 - Demons (1985) Review

4/1/2024
Random people are invited to the screening of a demonic move in a mysterious movie theater called the Metropol, where they soon realized they are trapped in the theater with killer demons. We have been hyping up Retro Reel for a few weeks now and it has finally arrived! For the first week of Retro Roll, a month of 80's horror movies that capture the style of the decade, we are discussing Demons. This is a super fun movie that is simple yet has a lot of awesome kills, a great soundtrack, and cool looking demons. The film also kicks off a set of engaging sequels. Final Friday: Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance (2015)

3/29/2024
After 25 years, detective Frank Washington teams up with his old partner, Joe Marshall, to investigate a bunch of gang-related deaths. Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance is the sequel to Samurai Cop, which was a movie that we absolutely loved. It was hilarious in all the best ways and very entertaining. Although Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance didn't provide the same level of engagement, it was still a fun film in how crazy it was. It brought back all of our favorite characters from the first movie, played by Mathew Karedas and Mark Frazer, and added Tommy Wiseau. Watch the movie and catch our review. 204 - The Evil Dead (1981) Review

3/25/2024
Flesh-possessing demons prey on a group of friends traveling to a cabin in the woods. The Evil Dead is a cult classic and long overdue for us to discuss. Sam Raimi's cabin in the woods horror inspired so many horror movies with its use of bloody and disgusting practical effects. It set up successful sequels and developed Bruce Campbell's character, Ash Williams, into a horror icon. Shane's brother, Nicky, joins the podcast to discuss this film. Final Friday: Malibu Express (1985)

3/22/2024
A private detective, who loves the ladies and is irresistible to them, is assigned to investigate who is providing tech leaks to the Russians. Malibu Express is a fun 80's action movie with a lot of charm and an interesting mystery. This film has a lot of sub plots and they are so bizarre, it makes the movie such a wild ride. It kept us engaged all the way through and pulled off a twist that surprised all of us. Watch the movie and catch our review. 203 - Leprechaun 3 (1995) Review

3/17/2024
An evil leprechaun searches throughout Las Vegas for his missing piece of gold as whoever has it has the ability to grant wishes and he kills anyone who gets in the way. As he searches for his missing piece of gold, he starts to turn a young man into a leprechaun. We were so excited to discuss Leprechaun 3 as this is our favorite Leprechaun movie. The theme remains the same as the first 2 movies, but the Las Vegas setting works well with the missing Leprechaun gold and the Leprechaun going on a killing spree to get it back is a fun ride. While the series is crazy and makes no sense, this is an enjoyable movie in how wild it is. Watch the movie and catch our review. Final Friday: I Am Here... Now (2009)

3/15/2024
A powerful deity arrives on Earth and travels to Las Vegas experiencing disappointment in his creation. I Am Here... Now is something. After watching Double Down, we knew we were in for a wild ride, but it's hard to describe what happens in this movie and understand Neil Breen's intention. The movie is enjoyable in the sense that there is no cohesion and it's very difficult to rationalize. Watch the movie and catch our review. 202 - Ghost Ship (2002) Review

3/11/2024
Salvagers come across a lost ship dating back to 1962 that is still floating aimlessly in the Bering Sea and soon realize its dead inhabitants may still haunt the ship. Ghost Ship has been a movie that Bryan and Shane have seen several times and cannot agree on it and it couldn't be a better time to discuss it. The movie has a great cast and appears to have an interesting ghost story. Will watching it again change their minds or will they still be divided? Mikey "Bratwurst" Benanti hops on the podcast to take a side. Watch the movie and catch our review. Final Friday: Deadly Western (2023)

3/8/2024
The sheriff of a western town wakes up with no memory and awaits a deadly group of outlaws coming to town. Deadly Western is a western action movie from our favorite director, Geno McGahee. While we're used to great horror movies from McGahee, this time he brings a western action movie that has a very different tone from the horror movies that are always so much fun. Where will this film line up among his movies? Watch the movie and catch our review. 201 - It Comes at Night (2017) Review

3/4/2024
As a mysterious sickness spreads, a man established a structured order of living with his wife and son and takes in another family in need of water and shelter. It Comes at Night is a deep movie that peers into the lives of a family who has recently lost a loved one while isolating from a mysterious sickness and how much they can trust others and their intentions. This is a powerful movie in how quiet and eerie it is. The character dialogue and facial expressions carry the story of two families who live together to benefit each other and must obey a set of rules to ensure the safety of both families. The movie poses a lot of questions and the character intentions aren't known based on how much one family can really trust the other as well as if it's even possible to isolate with another family and be safe. Final Friday: Robert and the Toymaker (2017)

3/1/2024
In Nazi Germany, a Toymaker is sought after by the Gestapo after acquiring a book that animates objects and brings them to life. It's time to discuss the next installment in the Robert series, Robert and the Toymaker. This movie took us by surprise as it opens with a tense 30-minute opening that felt so different from the tone of the previous movies, but was very entertaining. The film also barely features Robert and focuses on other dolls who are also animated by the Toymaker, who is a big focus. Watch the movie and catch our review. 200 - ABCs of Death 2 (2014) Review

2/26/2024
26 short films that all depict death in different ways. The 200th episode has arrived and we are celebrating in the only way that makes sense. We are discussing ABCs of Death 2 which is a horror movie anthology and a sequel to The ABCs of Death, which we discussed on our 100th episode. Several of our friends hop on to discuss these horror short films in bloody detail. Some of these movies are interpretive, some are direct, but all are crazy. Watch the movie and catch our review.
