After a string of period pieces, almost all of which starred or co-starred Toshirô Mifune, Kurosawa adapts the 1963 American serial crime novel ‘King’s Ranson’, which may very well be the absolute GOAT of detective films. After some mini reviews, the boys got giddy talking about the film year 2013, which was a doozy- ‘Gravity’, ’12 Years a Slave’, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, to name a few. We chose to take a second look at Denis Villeneuve’s ‘PRISONERS’, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal as committed as they’ll ever be. We discussed how, with the help of Roger Deakins our podcast hero, this familiar genre looked and felt better and more visceral than the rest of the bunch.
