12/1/2023
It was a pleasure to welcome again Steve Quinn (Vocals), Paul Quinn (Guitar) & Kieran O'Leary (Bass) of Cork Doom purveyors The Grief to the podcast. The four piece along with John Murphy (Guitars, Synths, Producer, Engineer & Mixer) recorded their latest album 'Crucible' in Murphy's home studio, The Barn, in North Cork during 2022 & 2023. I caught up with Steve, Paul and Kieran just after their successful album launch in their home town of Cork. We cover that, insights into how The Grief craft their songs, exploring themes and styles with their music and future plans. The Grief have really shown on this their sophomore release, that they are one of the best emerging bands coming out of Europe playing some incredible melancholic and brow beaten slabs of epic doom metal to the next generation. Episode 262: Gama Bomb Exclusive: Philly, Joe & JR give us a track by track run through of their fantastic new release 'Bats'!

11/10/2023
It was a pleasure to welcome Philly, Joe and JR to the podcast to do an exclusive track by track rub through of their fantastic new release 'Bats' on @ProstheticRecords . 'From the tombs of Egypt to the faded glamour of old Hollywood, Philly, Domo, JR, Joe and James lead us through new sonic landscapes and all manner of novel adventures on what they themselves call their “weirdest” album yet.' Bats is their best Gama Bomb album to date for me, with musical nods to some of my favourite bands like Lizzy, Priest, Faith No More, Overkill and The Cult to name but a few. In sonic terms, the musicianship and singing is off the scale on this release, thanks to guitarist Domo who produced, mixed and mastered the entire thing, and he has done a fabulous job. So sit back, relax grab a beer, coffee or drink of your choice and listen to Philly, Joe & JR chat to me about how the creative process worked for the album, lyric inspirations and influences outside of the Metal spectrum. 'Bats' maybe called creepy, scary and spooky, but bats like Gama Bomb are an important species that impact our daily lives in ways we might not even realize. Hope you enjoy the Ceol, craic agus Metal! Please hit 'SUBSCRIBE' to The Metal Cell YouTube channel. Thanks, Richie. Episode 261: Ten Point Rule: Vince, Sean, Dave & Kevin of the influential Cork Hardcore band reunite on the show to talk about their time in the band and the re-release of 'Say My Name' EP.

11/3/2023
It was a pleasure to welcome Vince McCarthy (Vocals), Sean Keenaghan (Guitars), Kevin O'Brien (Bass) & Dave Hackett (Drums) of Hardcore band Ten Point Rule on to the show. Ten Point Rule were formed in 1998, played mostly in the Phoenix, and were part of a large underground punk/metal/hardcore scene. They recorded a 5 track CD 'Say my Name' EP in BPM studios in Douglas in April 1999 and launched it the following month in An Phoenix, one month before Dave, Seán and Kevin’s Leaving Cert. It quickly sold out. In the interim of doing their exams and waiting for their results, the band went back into BPM studios in July ’99 and recorded two tracks. However, due to lack of funds and the band amicably splitting up that same year, the tracks were never released. Myself, Howard & Evan chat to the lads, who are reunited for the first time in 25 years via Zoom, about the history of the band, the huge influence they unwittingly were to upcoming Irish Metal/HC bands and the re-release of 'Say My Name' EP with the two missing tracks. A unique episode in many ways I want to thank Ten Point Rule and Howard for organizing it and please 'SUBSCRIBE' to The Metal Cell YouTube channel! Thanks, Richie. All sales of the 'Say My Name' EP' will go to Corks Penny Dinners. Link to EP: https://tenpointrule.bandcamp.com/album/say-my-name-remastered

However the twist is in the song writing and delivery which brings a fresh take on the death metal scene! Add in some blood soaked humor and a brilliant live show, Undeath are evolving into something that appeals to all fans of different metal genres. Episode 253: Host Body: Josh Guyett and Conor Geraghty give us an insight into their recently formed UK based abrasive Mathcore band.

9/29/2023
I had a brilliant chat with Josh & Conor of UK based Mathcore band Host Body. Since leaving Ilenkus Josh on guitars/backing vocals moved over to Bristol and started jamming with fellow Irish man Conor drummer of Bokotono. The addition of Sam on bass, Steve on Vocals/Synths and Paddy on guitars from bands such as St. Pierre Snake Invasion, Ogives Big Band, and Lightning Sharks, gave the band a lot of experience and the intention to create an abrasive heavy style of mathcore. The quintet brought this in spades with their debut single ‘Mouth’ which features an incredible video to showcase Host Bodys artistic vision also.
