I have been loving these tracks over the past few months. This is my first mix completely assembled on Ableton which allows for finer control of transitions and qualities. Still lots to learn, but fun to play with!

This week's podcast is a pure variety show. Ambient, global, house, and classics all make an appearance this week.

This one's for me. I took some time to think about the past year and the songs I discovered, remembered, and kept coming back to. This is the top list of tracks from the year.

It's funny how I can hear what's happening in my life as I put together these podcasts. They are placeholders and pointers to memories or maps to conversations I'm having with myself. This week there's a lot of emotional music on the podcast, both fast (Kimyan Law) and slow (Andy Shauf). Even if it doesn't feel like it in New York, it's winter time, and my brain knows it.

Continuing the musical sharing with some dance, some rock, and some smooth jazz. Just kidding, it's mostly the first two with smooth jazz overlaid on top to mellow them out. Or maybe the pan flute is underneath all of them secretly luring you into its hypnotic trance dance of breathy solidarity.

A friend mentioned I should do this again. I resisted. Then I remembered how much I loved it so I'm back.

Well, it has been way too long since there was one of these. Obviously there is a lot to catch up on, but I am hoping to have some help soon (Hi Emily!). This mix is a mixture of jazz, rap, indie, and electro... exactly what you've come to expect from the eclectic academik.

The "New" continues this week with great stuff from Phoenix, U2, Peter Bjorn and John, and Animal Collective - all stand outs for '09. Theophilus London, dancey hip-hop's new philosopher from NYC gives us two new tracks off his mixtape mixed by Machinedrum. Up and comer Francis and the Lights give off a little mood music and we've got another new track from Beirut's latest. Dallasite Liz Williams finishes up the podcast with her fantastic track Nothing and Everyhthing. All in a week's work!

There is so much new music out this year it's unbelievable. This week on the podcast - new Andrew Bird, Calvin Harris, and Bon Iver along with newcomers to the podcast La Roux, Ida Maria, Frightened Rabbit and Margot and the Nuclear So and So's. I'm all over the place this week in terms of genres, but they're all at the top of their game.

This week's podcast, the first in many weeks, is all over the place. I've been hearing great stuff in 2009, and doing a variety of music projects that have me listening to rock, chillout, rap, and indie.... so it's all in here. I've been falling in love with Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III over the past few weeks (I'm a little late to that game, I know). I let the good vibes flow this week, waiting for the beat to build with a mixture of songs for you to turn on and just relax to. The mix starts off strong with the Cool Kids, then quickly cools off with a mix of Blue Scholars, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye, Wale, Atmosphere, and the Roots. We finish with one of my favorite tracks (thanks Quinn), Let tha Beat Build!

It's the 100th podcast! This is a fun mix of dancy stuff I've been digging lately and haven't had a chance to put in other podcasts. Right now I'm loving remixes by Fred Falke, great stuff from Chromeo and great electro dance hip hop ala Control by Kid Sister and Day 'N Nite by Kid Cudi. I'm not ready to turn 100! This week's Indie Rock mix is just a few songs old and new to delay the inevitable 100th episode. We start off with a great track from Yeasayer, a band that produced one of '07s best albums (According to the charts and a preliminary listen on my part). This week has lots of new music from indie, elctro, rap, rock and ambient... wow. I'm even amazed at the diversity this week. Get acquainted with a variety of great artists like Gang Gang Dance, Wye Oak, Balmorhea, Glasvegas, Asher Roth and more. I had to also include my favorite new RnB track, Mrs. Officer by Lil Wayne.

This week is dedicated to Nizlopi, a great Scottish band with a terrible name.

I've been listening to Pandora a lot over the past few months and discovered a number of great Drum 'N Bass tracks on my LTJ Bukem station... Over the weekend I found a number of my favorites and also looked up a number of new things on eMusic. While they might not have the latest and greatest on eMusic, I completely recommend their selections off Hospital Records including London Elektricity and High Contrast. In the meantime, listen in, and rock out.
