Interview with Ryan Cabrera

12/11/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing Ryan Cabrera over Zoom video! Pop icon Ryan Cabrera has dropped the serotonin-inducing new single "Prescription of You". The Platinum selling singer-songwriter channels some of the giants of the 80's scene on the new track, whilst delivering an anthem that dazzles with freshness and shimmers with pop-sensibility. Speaking on the track, Cabrera shares: “Prescription of You" is a fun, flirtatious take on the dance of desiring someone so much that you can’t think about anything else! We felt an old-school Prince vibe with pops, hooks, and playful lyrics! It’s a turn that lights off and get seductive type of vibe.” Since the release of debut single “On The Way Down”, Platinum selling singer-songwriter Ryan Cabrera has become synonymous with uplifting pop-rock, adorned with big hooks and soaring melodies. Major label debut, Take It All Away hit #8 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart and powered Cabrera into the hearts of American music fans with its relatable lyricism and honest delivery. Even with it’s success at the time, few could have predicted the resonating impact Take It All Away would have on the US pop scene. The 2004 album would go on to be Certified Platinum and launch Cabrera to stardom. Cabrera’s talent and dexterity continued to show with the release of 2015’s “House on Fire”. The track hit #1 on the US Dance chart, with the multi-talented artist continuing to see his star rise on subsequent EP, Wake Up Beautiful. The new music was met with acclaim from fans and critics alike, with People Magazine dubbing “House on Fire” Cabrera’s “catchiest hooks since “On The Way Down”". With collaboration and connection at the core of his ethos, Cabrera’s writing credits extend beyond just his own tracks. In 2018, he penned Avril Lavigne’s “Tell Me It’s Over”, with the track featuring on the Canadian hitmaker’s 2019 album Head Above Water. Returning to the studio re-energized in 2022, Cabrera began work on his latest material, ignited by lead single “Worth It”, a song he wrote for his now wife, WWE star Alexa Bliss. Last Christmas saw Cabrera team with O-Town’s Erik-Michael Estrada for heart-warming festive hit “Spend It With You” and moving into fall '23 Cabrera has announced his signing to Manic Kat Records for the release of eagerly anticipated new single, “Prescription of You”. Cabrera has also announced his signing to Manic Kat Records. We want to hear from you! Interview with Roger Eno

12/9/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing Roger Eno over Zoom video! Following on from the critically acclaimed DG solo debut, The Turning Year (2022) and follow up tracks such as “Above and Below”, which has streamed over 19 million times, the new album, the skies, they shift like chords, features the previously released tracks, “Strangely, I Dreamt”, with vocals by Cecily Eno, “Tidescape”, “Chordal Drift”, and “Arms Open Wide”. the skies, they shift like chords builds on the soundworld of piano and strings heard on Roger Eno’s DG debut solo album, The Turning Year, expanding it with lines for electric guitar, clarinet, bass clarinet, vibraphone, flute organ and subtle electronic sounds. Most of the tracks grew out of improvisations – musical snapshots. “Often, the best way to cement these is by hardly using any detail,” explains the composer and multi-instrumentalist. “The first track on the skies, ‘Chordal Drift’, is a series of quite thick string chords with no intimation of melody. If you listen to it more closely, though, you’ll start to link things together.” The lone vocal piece on the album, “Strangely, I Dreamt”, is co-written and sung by Roger Eno’s eldest daughter, vocalist and visual artist Cecily Eno. Its lyrics began life as part of a poem by one of her father’s friends, but Cecily adapted them to include “The skies, they shift like chords”, a line that invites us to contemplate the nature of impermanence. That same idea lies behind “Tidescape”. “It owes its name to a poem by Mary Markwell written in 1976,” notes Roger Eno. “I happened upon it in a Suffolk Poetry Society anthology, one of my favourite poetry collections. I loved the name, implying, as it does, how the tide creates a changing landscape unique to that environment.” As “Tidescape” began taking shape for the album, Eno invited his guitarist friend, Jon Goddard to fashion a high guitar drone above the existing music for flute organ. “Jon’s additions allowed me to hear two other elements in the piece, my beloved clarinet and bass clarinet, which sound like aural velvet. The resulting openness perhaps prompted my producer at DG, Christian Badzura, to have the courageous idea of adding reversed distorted guitar. I thoroughly enjoyed watching how the piece developed as though on its own, like a river finding its own path to the sea.” By contrast, “Arms Open Wide” returns to the simplicity of Roger Eno’s solo piano, although despite the track’s gentle, intimate feel, it is underpinned by a sense of strength. “There always has to be something strong or utterly beautiful, otherwise there’s the danger that it becomes like lift music…” The album’s other expressive titles include “Japanese Rain Garden”, “That Which Is Hidden”, “Mind the Gap”, “Illusion”, “Above And Below (Crepuscular)” and “Through The Blue (Crepuscular)”. “I always name pieces after I’ve composed them,” says Roger Eno. “I try to match them to poetic titles, to trigger feelings, emotions and thoughts as the music plays.” One of the emotional threads running throughout the skies, they shift like chords is Eno’s relationship with his native region of East Anglia. The tracks are inspired by its landscape – a mix of small market towns, medieval churches, wheatfields, meadows, rivers and open skies – as well as by the work of local poets and the Norwich School of artists, active in the early 1800s. The album’s melancholy tone has much to do with the threat now posed to the region’s biodiversity by intensive farming and climate change. “The overall mood is one of transience,” says Eno of his new recording, whose moments of stillness are vital, allowing the music to breathe and listeners to explore their own emotional and imaginative response to it. “There are lots of gaps, silent pauses, throughout the album, which are a really important part of it. When a track finishes, you’re still ‘there’ in the music, and unless the next one comes in at just the right moment, something’s going to jangle...

Interview with nobody likes you pat

12/6/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing nobody likes you pat over Zoom video! Saint Paul, Minnesota-based artist nobody likes you pat, the moniker for singer-songwriter Pat Kiloran, is thrilled to share his new EP dear… via Nettwerk. Known for his moving melodies and stimulating lyrics, Pat brings a renewed introspective and intimate quality to his latest project. dear… is a collection of close-to-the-vest tracks that encapsulate the multifaceted experiences and emotions that not only has shaped Pat’s musical journey, but his personal one as well. After exploring new sounds and ideas, nobody likes you pat found himself at a crossroads, realizing that his true artistic essence lies in his blunt-yet-gentle narrative-driven lyricism. Inspired by this revelation, he embarked on a journey back to his roots, crafting songs that resemble intimate letters to his loved ones. Stripped of artificial gloss and cinematic effects, these songs offer a genuine and meaningful experience for anyone in need of solace and connection. Father, husband, singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and mixer, Pat Kiloran grew up in St. Paul, MN, with detours in Canada, Los Angeles, and Nashville. Despite living in many areas, it was storytelling that had always stuck with Pat, no matter where he was going or coming from. Following his time as frontman of acclaimed band Milkk, he launched nobody likes you pat in 2021 with a pair of fan favorite EPs, namely, now that I’m here, i feel like myself EP and spinning EP. Signing to Nettwerk, 2022 saw him unveil his full-length debut imago. During the creative process of making imago, Pat had spent a lot of time thinking of his family and friends. In his case, those thoughts turned into breezy, bold, and bright indie pop anthems rooted in relatable Americana-style storytelling and stitched together with homegrown production. nobody likes you pat has garnered 12M+ cumulative streams and has been featured on Spotify’s Next Gen Singer-Songwriters, Warm Fuzzy Feeling, and Sommer Chillout playlists. Interview with Locket

12/5/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing Locket over Zoom video! Canadian alt rock band Locket recently released their new album and second full-length Superluminal. The band’s latest single from the album, this time in the form of the power pop anthem "Blame My Brain." It's got big hooks, bold harmonies, and it's brimming with melodies. It's incredibly catchy but also boasts hard-charging guitars to give it an extra edge. "This song is about being so used to keeping thoughts to yourself, that by the time you're ready to open up or express yourself, the words escape you," says frontman Brad Garcia. "Almost like the introvert in me is keeping the extrovert at arm's length, but never closer. I'm envious of people I know who are able to express themselves so effortlessly. I'm sure people who grew up in similar households — sharing wasn't really a part of the routine — can relate. Lyrics aside, this song was a perfect exercise for honing in on who we are, or were, when we started writing the record back in 2021. It's familiar territory explored through whatever lens we had at the time. Power chords and vocoders? Sure, why not." Recording their second full-length, Garcia states, "When 'band world' got put on pause back in 2020, it almost felt like a sigh of relief. We found this sense of freedom in being able to just write music for no other reason than writing music. With real pressure we could just write riffs, not overthink anything. And I think because of that, sonically, the record feels so authentically us." He continues, "Thematically, I approached writing this record from this place of not knowing what's next (for the band or for ourselves as individuals). It ended up being this cathartic process of learning to deal with this central part of your life being forced across a tightrope, and ultimately learning to be alright if it slips and falls apart, because it might make way for a new chapter. We started writing this album as band guys in our twenties. By the time it comes out we'll be in our thirties, married, with a clearer understanding of who we are as people that have this insane privilege of making music together where people actually listen. We don't take that for granted. Also, we all think the album fuckin' rocks, so that's probably the most important thing." We want to hear from you! Interview with The Iron Roses (Nathan Gray Returns!)

12/1/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing The Iron Roses over Zoom video! The Iron Roses are a passionate, unique, and beautiful group of people making music that we hope will change the world. Fueled by the injustices of our current times - their songs are the kind of protest anthems that only a group of seasoned musicians could make. Still angry, still driven, and still screaming – this is a band that will never give up the fight. It takes serious talent to write and sing songs that sound angry whilst the music lifts your spirits. So much of political punk is abrasive and unpleasant. No hooks. No melodies. But other times passionate and irate words sound incongruent with emotionless and insipid music. The Iron Roses manage something rare and commanding with music that lifts the heart coupled powerfully with lyrics that express fury and resentment of the current world. Punk as a genre has been so commodified and diluted over the last decades that it seems to be ever increasingly hard to find bands that resonate this way. That sing and play with such intensity that their authenticity cannot be questioned. That prove that true punk is alive and well and can have you dancing around your kitchen singing along at the top of your voice. Yes, we can discuss their pedigree, most notably their frontperson Nathan Gray (of Boysetsfire), and their relentless touring and political activism. But none of those things matter if the songs don’t connect with the listener. And this collection of songs are going to do just that. From the opening notes of the first song the cards are on the table. The objective is clear – The Iron Roses are putting to words and music all the thoughts you’ve had these last few dark years. With the worldwide political climate leaning further and further from the left. With rights for many being limited and destroyed. With no end in sight. We need bands like The Iron Roses giving us a soundtrack to fight. Songs to pour our anger and frustration into when we sing along - just as they did when they wrote and recorded them – and will be doing so from stage when they hit the road hard this autumn. The beauty of seeing these six individuals singing their truth is astounding. Watching them grow from strength to strength in the last few years it is unsurprising that this record is the outcome. They, and their songs, represent such power, love, and passion – something that we need more than ever in this world today. We want to hear from you! Interview with Sleep Theory

11/30/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing Sleep Theory over Zoom video! Breakout four-piece Sleep Theory — vocalist Cullen Moore, guitarist Daniel Pruitt, bassist Paolo Vergara, and drummer Ben Pruitt — have shared the video for "Fallout" from their Paper Hearts EP, out now via the Epitaph Records. Get the EP, which has been streamed over 33 million times. The video features intense performance footage colliding with equally intense apocalyptic imagery, both of which fit the urgency of the song. It's a continuation of the end-of-the-world theme seen in the video for "Numb." "Creating 'Fallout' was a very personal for us, and seeing the music video come to life was surreal," the band states. "The emotion in the track is something we poured our hearts into, and we're thrilled that it resonates so powerfully with our fans. [Director] Orie [McGuiness] took our vision and elevated it beyond expectations. The way the music video captures the essence of the song is amazing. We truly couldn't have asked for a better visual representation for this song." Sleep Theory will hit the road on a 40-date trek with Beartooth, The Plot In You, and Invent Animate in Winter 2024. Since bursting onto the scene earlier this year, Sleep Theory have gone from strength to strength — and they show no signs of slowing down. The Paper Hearts EP features two buzzy singles — "Numb" and "Gone or Staying" — and the songs have established Sleep Theory as one of the most exciting and talked about artists of 2023. The band was praised by Loudwire for its ability to "adapt 2000s arena rock and nu-metal for the future with their anthemic metal-tinged sound that would please any fan of Linkin Park and their ilk. At once enthralling, emotional and disarming, SleepTheory's supercharged single 'Numb' is everything a radio rock fan could want. You'll be humming it for days after." With further press coverage from American Songwriter, Billboard, Celebrity Access, Punktastic, and beyond, as well as major nods from SiriusXM's Octane, Sleep Theory have had a huge 2023 and are clearly gearing up for an even bigger 2024. In just the past three months, Sleep Theory's monthly listeners have more than doubled, while their YouTube channel views have tripled. They are averaging 1.5 million streams per week, while "Numb" is sitting at No. 16 on the Active Rock chart and continues to climb. The track was No. 1 on on Sirius XM Octane, while the band was the first rock artist included in SiriusXM/Pandora's Artist Accelerator program and will be a part of the Next Wave Concert Series this month. They've toured with everyone from Shinedown to Set It Off, shared stages with I Prevail and Badflower, and have appeared at Louder Than Life, Rock Fest, ShipRockled, and Point Fest. They also count Jellyroll and Disturbed David Draiman as fans. We want to hear from you! Interview with Greylan James

11/28/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing Greylan James over Zoom video! Greylan James is the product of a young man’s hard work and experience, wrapped up in an original country song. Raised just north of Knoxville, Tennessee, Greylan knew that he was meant to be a musician at a young age. By the time he turned double digits, he was frequently performing at barn dances, local restaurants, and bars. He started writing songs as an early teen and began visiting Nashville with his family in hopes of a future career in Country music. He finally made the move after being ranked one of the top 100 guitarists under 21 by Guitar Center and appearing on Season 4 of NBC’s The Voice. After earning a few more years of experience diligently writing in Music City, Greylan signed with Universal Music Publishing Group. He has earned songwriting credits on major records such as the smash hit “Happy Does” by Kenny Chesney, “If That Ain’t God” by Chris Young, and “Real Friends” by Chris Janson featuring Blake Shelton. Greylan recently signed a record deal with Big Machine Label Group, and was announced as a 'Highway Find' on Sirius XM. He also received his first No. 1 as a songwriter on Jordan Davis' "Next Thing You Know." Interview with Mike Mains & The Branches (Mike Mains Returns)

11/22/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing Mike Mains & The Branches over Zoom video! Mike Mains & The Branches have always bottled complex emotions and relatable stories within hummable homegrown anthems. They have organically progressed over the course of Home [2012], Calm Down, Everything Is Fine [2014], and When We Were In Love [2019]. Billboard hailed the "buoyant pop" of the latter, while Atwood Magazine praised its "upbeat, energetic, feel-good pop-rock." Among many standouts, “Briggs” generated north of 4.8 million Spotify streams as "Breathing Underwater" and "Live Forever" each surpassed the 1 million-mark. After trading his native Michigan for Nashville, Mike underwent another era of transformation. Stuck at home mid-Pandemic, he retreated inward and began to understand his past and, ultimately, himself a bit more. "Once COVID hit, I finally had the opportunity to allow some things to start boiling over," he elaborates. "I got serious about therapy, my mental health, and my well-being. I acknowledged wounds that had been on the backburner for my entire life. I've been on my own since I was 16, and I come from a family of physical and mental abuse. By living alone and crashing on couches over the years, I've cobbled together a wonderful surrogate family. Growing up, my dad was like, 'You'll never make it’.' Part of me was pleased to find success, move to Nashville, buy a home, and support myself and my wife off rock 'n' roll. Nevertheless, all of this pain came up. So, these songs are little vignettes and snapshots of not only the relationship between my wife and I but what was happening in the world with George Floyd and America's heartbreaking response." Interview with Within Temptation (Sharon den Adel Returns!)

11/22/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing Within Temptation over Zoom video! Dutch metallers Within Temptation recently released their brand-new studio album Bleed Out with a provocative, zombie-vampire-gore-fest-splatter-horror video for their current single "Ritual". Brutal and brilliantly comedic, whilst calling to mind the work of legendary animator Ralph Bakshi and the Rotoscope school of animation, the video for "Ritual" calls out the behaviour of male sexual predators in the workplace, the street, the sports field, and more. What if women behaved as aggressively as the men who seek to take advantage of them, and what if they fought back to exact a terrible revenge? Singer Sharon den Adel says, "'Ritual' is a sexual song, about seduction and a woman taking power in a male-dominated world. It was inspired by watching Tarantino's movie From Dusk Til Dawn and is a light-hearted moment in our album, which focuses mainly on the political and repressive issues in the world. We have always wanted to do a horror-style video for Halloween, and this song gave us the perfect chance to do that, using AI-technology to create something truly awe-inspiring. But it also addresses some of the recent news-stories of men behaving badly and imagines what would happen if a bad-ass woman fought back in the most terrible way. So get ready for blood, violence, fangs, and humor. The album Bleed Out has been released to worldwide acclaim, showcasing Within Temptation at the very forefront of contemporary metal, and unafraid to take a social and political stand on many of the issues in the world today. As epic as it is unflinchingly outspoken, Within Temptation have delivered a fist-in-the-air proclamation of both their moral convictions and their fearless approach to music. Interview with David Michael Frank

11/20/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing David Michael Frank over Zoom video! Multi-instrumentalist + creator David Michael Frank, recently released the new single called "F*** Me Over", about coming to the end of a relationship when one person isn't quite ready to face it yet. "It tackles the often unspoken but universally felt desire for something clear-cut when lost in the haze of a dying relationship," says David. "It combines brutal honesty with vulnerability, highlighting the internal struggle of someone who wants clarity, even if that means facing painful truths." Frustrated by the idea of waiting for opportunities to come his way, DMF set out to take the full risk of thinking outside the traditional touring norm. Instead of playing conventional venues and collaborating with promoters/teams in a competitive touring marketplace, David took the bold step of outright RENTING 24 venues up front, believing in himself at a time when he felt like no one else was believing in him. By renting venues, each concert on the Private Party Tour becomes an exclusive "Private Party." Rather than hiring an agent for a traditional tour, he engaged event planners to secure the necessary licenses to serve (and in many states, sell) alcohol and food, as well as hiring licensed Tattoo artists to work the events and will be keeping the profits. By taking on the upfront cost, unlike a traditional tour where ticket sales money is withheld by the venue/promoter, David found a loophole unbeknownst to the music industry. Ticket fees, a sore subject, are nominal and the compensation to the artist is finally fair. His innovative approach challenges the affordability of touring for artists of all sizes, potentially disrupting the entire touring industry and attracting major brand partners, while also shining a light on the darker aspects of the industry. The Private Party Tour blurred the lines between the audience and the stage, creating an incredibly intimate and immersive concert-going experience. 11/19/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing FiNE and Lizwi over Zoom video! Emerging twin brother DJ duo and Progressive Afro House producers FiNE have teamed up with Lizwi to release their debut MoBlack single “The Light.” “The Light” is an extraordinary fusion of Progressive Afro House and traditional African sounds. The combination of the unique musical backgrounds of the FiNE twins and Lizwi creates a sonic experience that is both captivating and deeply rooted in their shared heritage. Since moving to Los Angeles recently, FiNE have been taking the local scene by storm with recurring shows at La Mesa called FiNE Fridays, and additional sets at venues including Hotel Shangri-La, The Mondrian, Aya Lounge Beverly Hills, The Cooks Garden in Venice, Cafe Roma and more. FiNE is an artist project from twin brothers born in Johannesburg, and raised in Botswana. Given their upbringing, they describe their music and DJ sets as Progressive Afro House. With a life journey already covering South Africa, Botswana, Israel and Australia, they have deep connections to global audiences and it shows through their signature sound. It’s undeniable that the twins’ multicultural upbringing shapes their Afro-infused DJ sets and original productions. ABOUT FiNE: Craig and Darren Fine, twin brothers, share an unbreakable lifelong bond like most siblings. However, their journey in life has been extraordinary and has shaped them into unique individuals and musical artists. The Fine brothers, pioneers of the Progressive Afro House genre, have developed their distinctive sound through a blend of diverse musical influences. Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Craig and Darren relocated to Botswana during their early schooling years. As expatriates in Botswana, they embraced the local customs, culture, and music. The brothers displayed their musical talents at a very young age with Craig on drums, Darren on piano, and both playing instruments like steel pans and marimbas. During their time in high school, Craig and Darren moved to Sydney, Australia, where they immersed themselves in the vibrant local electronic music scene. Their next adventure took them to Tel Aviv, where they balanced a day job while refining their fresh and eclectic sound in the city’s pulsating underground scene. They performed at numerous venues and festivals, including a prominent slot on the main stage at the Corona Sunsets Festival, garnering international support. Following their overseas success, the Fine brothers returned to Australia, captivating audiences from coast to coast at the country’s hottest venues. Eventually, they settled in their current home of Los Angeles. With their unique sound, FiNE has made waves in the Melodic and Afro House charts, consistently achieving top 10 Beatport releases. Notable among their successes is a remix of Paul Okenfold and Aloe Blacc’s hit “I’m In Love'' and their chart-topping debut EP “Forbidden Fruit” released on Australia’s esteemed label, Recovery Collective. In November 2022, they celebrated the release of their newest single “Cloud 9” on Recovery Collective. The original track captures the essence of FiNE’s Progressive Afro House style–melodic, driving, euphoric, and yet possessing a distinct edge. The single’s remix package features interpretations from renowned artists such as Kalil, Elliott Creed, and Jack Colletta. Most recently, FiNE collaborated with EPHIMERA Tulum, delivering a breathtaking live sunset mix. Currently, FiNE is planning an end-of-year tour in South Africa, Australia, and Bali. We had the pleasure of interviewing Kayla DiVenere over Zoom video! Rising star Kayla DiVenere, the 19-year-old actress, singer-songwriter with a dedicated online following, has taken the music scene by storm with her latest single "Date Myself." The song's release marks a powerful moment of self-discovery and empowerment for the young artist. Kayla explains, "Writing “Date Myself” reminded me of how beautiful it is to spend time by yourself and how important it is to be comfortable owning your self-love and high standards. Being able to hear it back after writing it and to scream it at the top of my lungs has comforted me more than any guy has, and I hope it can comfort people too in any way they can relate to it." In "Date Myself," Kayla candidly shares her own experience with the pitfalls of dating, as she exclaims, "I kinda wanna date myself." The inspiration for the song emerged during a conversation with her mother about her tumultuous dating history. Recognizing the universality of the sentiment, Kayla transformed this heartfelt confession into an anthem for anyone navigating the often treacherous world of dating. The track encourages listeners to embrace the beauty of spending time with themselves and to unapologetically prioritize self-love and high standards. Known for her roles on hit TV shows like "Law & Order," Hulu's "Love Victor," and Hulu's "Light as a Feather," as well as feature films such as "Under the Silver Lake," Kayla DiVenere has already made a significant impact on television screens across the United States. However, her passion for music led her to explore the world of songwriting, resulting in a flourishing music career with millions of streams across all platforms, and over 200,000 followers on social media. In 2020, Kayla released her debut single, "Justin Bieber," which garnered attention for its pop melodies and sweet vocals, showcasing her ability to craft authentic and relatable lyrics. Wonderland Magazine praised the song, stating, "Known for her delicate and genuine lyricism, the singer pulls on inspiration from her own past, to create a light-hearted and fun bop." Following her debut, Kayla continued to release captivating singles, including "PSYCHOPATH" in 2021 and "Megan Fox" in 2022. "Megan Fox" stands out as a powerful exploration of the pressures and insecurities stemming from unattainable beauty standards. Kayla's unflinching honesty in the song resonates with many as she addresses the challenges of feeling inadequate in relationships while surrounded by unrealistic ideals of perfection. Her first release of 2023, "Jumping the Gun," showcases Kayla's continued growth as a versatile artist, adding depth to her expanding catalog. Kayla’s latest releases have earned her a spot on some Spotify's top playlists, such as Pop Rising, New Pop Picks, Salt and All New Rock. With "Date Myself," Kayla DiVenere reaffirms her position as a rising force in the music industry, combining relatable lyrics, catchy melodies, and a powerful message of self-love and empowerment. The single is now available on all major streaming platforms, and fans can expect more exciting music and performances from this young sensation in the near future. We want to hear from you! Interview with Rett Madison

11/16/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing Rett Madison over Zoom video! One for Jackie, the new album from Los Angeles-based vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rett Madison, is out today via Warner Records/War Buddha Records and watch the video for new single “Flea Market” shot by Wes O’Connor at Sonic Ranch. “I made this album in memory of my mother and to honor my own grief,” Madison says. “I hope these songs will provide a moment of catharsis for anyone that’s lost a loved one, especially those of us that have lost someone to suicide.” One for Jackie features a collaboration with Iron & Wine and previously shared singles “One for Jackie, One for Crystal,” “Skydiving” and “Fortune Teller,” which arrived alongside a video directed by Joelle Grace Taylor (Kaytranada, Ariana Greenblatt, Rob Lowe) and choreographed by Carlena Britch (Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Gwen Stefani) and inspired Madison’s recently-launched Fortune Teller Arcana Tarot Card website. One for Jackie is a tribute to Madison’s mom, who struggled with depression, PTSD and alcoholism for Madison’s whole life before she passed by suicide in 2019, leaving her only child with the harrowing responsibility to try and better understand her mother while she mourned her. “Writing this album, I was moving through grief,” Madison says. “It was part of my healing process.” Recorded in Tornillo, Texas at the storied Sonic Ranch and produced by the Grammy Award-winning Tyler Chester (Madison Cunningham, Sara Bareilles, Watkins Family Hour), One for Jackie simultaneously borrows from legendary storytellers of the past like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen while cementing itself as an American classic for fans of Phoebe Bridgers, Angel Olsen and Brandi Carlile. Between Madison’s gutting lyrics, her singular voice and her exacting creative vision, One for Jackie immerses the listener in Madison’s grief, relying on memory and raw emotion to paint a lasting picture of Jackie. Rather than flattening and sanctifying her mother in the wake of her death, Madison portrays Jackie in all her glory and complexity. The result is an album that brings Jackie to life. Originally from West Virginia, Rett Madison is a queer singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles. She has been featured in publications such as Billboard, American Songwriter and Rolling Stone, where her music was described as “simultaneously brazen and vulnerable,” giving her a place “in the new school of acclaim-worthy troubadours.” She has sung backing vocals for artists such as Lorde and Kate Nash and opened for artists including Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Elle King and more. Having independently released a handful of singles ahead of her 2021 debut album, Pin-Up Daddy, she’s worked with some of the most talented players today, including Theo Katzman, Brian Jones, Lee Pardini and Joe Dart. Interview with Will Swinton

11/10/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing Will Swinton over Zoom video! Auckland singer-songwriter Will Swinton recently released his new EP, Better Days, via 10K Projects/Capitol Records. Raw and stripped-back, the release is elevated by the 22-year-old’s gravelly, soulful delivery as he lays out his thoughts and feelings over lush, rapturous compositions that mix and meld a dizzying array of elements and influences—showcasing a poise and presence well beyond his years. To complement the EP Will Swinton releases a captivating visual to the title-track which finds Will hanging with his friends in New Zealand. On the EP Will Swinton says, “Better Days is a journey through past mistakes, lessons learned, and moving on. I’m really starting to develop my sound, and I’m excited to share this EP and all the upcoming music I’ve made.” Better Days is started off with “So Low,” a palm-muted crowd-pleaser with a momentum that sneaks up on you. It’s followed by “Go Wrong,” a mournful look back at romance gone awry. Showcasing Swinton’s mumble rap-inspired delivery, the ethereal anthem is as surprising as it is touching. Also included is “All for You,” a gentle folk-pop that will surely get hearts pitter-pattering at concerts and “Wasted You,” a tender love letter to someone special built around gentle guitar plucking. Other highlights include “Missing You,” and of course the somber title-track “Better Days.” His latest single “Leave in the Morning” is included in the EP too and features a raw visual depicting the essence of love’s vulnerability and desire to hold on. The EP arrives amid a flurry of excitement for the up-and-comer, who Rolling Stone is already celebrating. Not long ago, Swinton withdrew his savings and flew to Los Angeles from Auckland to chase a dream. He wound up sticking around. In 2022, his very first independent single “All For You” cracked the Top 10 of the Hot 20 New Zealand Singles Chart, while “Wasted You” and “Leave In The Morning” landed in the Top 15. Thus far, he has tallied north of 100 million views on TikTok. Beyond collaborating with the likes of Claire Rosinkranz and finding a fan in MGK, he has performed everywhere from SXSW in Austin, TX to The Great Escape in Brighton, UK, and Primavera in Barcelona, Spain and a sold out a hometown show in New Zealand. Now, with Better Days, Swinton carves out a special place for himself in the music world, one which will soon be a much-sought-after destination. We want to hear from you! Interview with The Guess Who

11/9/2023
We had the pleasure of interviewing The Guess Who over Zoom video! Earlier this year, Canadian rock legends The Guess Who shared their brand new LP, Plein D'Amour, via Deko Entertainment. Today, the band continues their album rollout with the release of a brand new video for the single, "People Around Me." On Plein D’Amour, band members Derek Sharp, Michael Staertow, Leonard Shaw, Michael Devin, and founding member Garry Peterson have crafted a collection of songs that raises the bar and continues to take it up a notch both musically and sonically. The album was recorded at Villa Sound in Singhampton, Ontario, Canada, with Adam Fair. It features other stand out tracks such as “Headline” and “Across the Line.” Artwork for the release was provided by world renowned graphic designer Ioannis (Deep Purple, Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, etc.). In February, The Guess Who shared the first single off their new album, "The King." Upon its release, the track immediately landed on multiple editorial Spotify playlists. With follow up singles "Plein D’Amour" and "Headline," the three tracks racked up over 250,000 streams collectively and making this record the highest new release in the band’s history. The Guess Who Bio: The Guess Who is a legendary Canadian band who enjoyed chart topping hits in the late 60s and early 70s with an impressive catalogue of songs including "American Woman," "These Eyes," and "No Time." During the course of its career, the band has released 11 studio albums, and charted 14 Top 40 hit singles, 2 of which went to number one in the United States. The Guess Who is best known internationally for its 1970 album, American Woman, which hit number one in Canada and number nine in the United States, with five other albums also hitting the top ten in Canada. Their fan base spans multiple generations. Very few bands have survived numerous member changes — let alone having smash hits with each lineup — but The Guess Who’s motto is “the music is the message.” The most recent and up-to-date version of the band has mastered a wildly entertaining romp through the early hits mixed in with their current creations while managing to take the whole experience to a new level. Their most recent musical offering is stunningly sophisticated, searingly emotional, and musically eclectic while remaining eminently singalongable. Their live show is a celebration of life, being alive, and thriving in these uncertain times. The Guess Who never leave anything less than their hearts on the stage at the end of every performance.
