[NEW SHOW] mastered. The Business Of Music Episode 1

10/21/2025
Send us a text Hey everyone! This week, we’re doing something a little different — instead of our regular On The Porch episode, we’re bringing you the first full episode of our new limited series, Mastered: The Business of Music. Mastered pulls back the curtain on the music industry, talking with major players about marketing, touring, sync licensing, being a DIY artist, and so much more — all the real-world advice artists and industry professionals need. We’re excited to share this full episode with you today, and don’t worry — we’ll be back with our regular On The Porch format next week. You can also head over to the Mastered feed to catch the rest of the series. Joelle May’s career has spanned across public relations, label management, events, and more. One area she’s worked in for over a decade is sync and licensing. And I know what you’re thinking - wtf is sync and licensing? This is exactly why we thought it’d be great to sit down with Joelle and really unpack that. Joelle has placed music across television, video games, and commercials in North America and Europe. In this episode, we get to the bottom of what sync and licensing is, how to get your music placed (spoiler: it’s not easy, especially on your own), and a little bit about the legalities and how royalties work. This Week's Emerging Artist This week, we have Adinah Vine, a country artist from Ontario, sharing her song "What If We Run Out Of Gas?". Available now wherever you get your music. Support the show

From Six Strings To The Big Stage with Cottage Springs with Mac Rumbolt

8/26/2025
Send us a text This week On The Porch, we’re joined by Mac Rumbolt. Mac is the winner of the Cottage Springs Country Rising contest, where he took home the grand prize of $10,000, and an artist development package with Starseed Entertainment. Mac comes from small-town Nova Scotia, where he learned to play guitar at just five years old. Unsure of how a career in music may unfold, he initially headed to Alberta for an apprenticeship as a Harley Davidson mechanic. One drive by shooting and a leg amputation later, Mac found himself back at home working in behavioural health. Unable to play sports anymore, Mac turned back to his guitar and writing music, a place of comfort while he rehabbed his injuries. A Facebook ad and a dream later, Mac applied for the Country Rising contest and found himself the winner. This summer, he opened for the Reklaws in Windsor, along with their back to back sold out shows at the legendary Kee To Bala. We can’t wait to see what’s next from Mac, including a single release in the near future! We’re so excited to bring back Season 4 of On The Porch with Front Porch Music. 7/15/2025
Send us a text Mitch Zorn has been celebrating the release of his debut EP Mitch Zorn. We caught up with him during his Calgary Stampede adventures. Mitch grew up in a town of 1000 people, rural Nakusp, British Columbia, where he joined his family band at just eight years old. It wasn’t long before he was headed South to work in the oil fields in Texas. Mitch would spend five years going between there and Nashville to write songs on his weeks off. We talked a lot about how working in the oil fields really inspired and shaped his songwriting. Mitch decided to move home after five years down South and really started to work on recording music. A chance encounter with representatives of 604 Records at his show led to him celebrating his first record deal in mid 2024. “From City Kids To Steroes to Delta Sweet” with Pat Kordyback

6/17/2025
Send us a text Pat Kordyback discovered his voice after losing interest in hockey and skateboarding. Learning to sing in his teens, Pat was inspired by the sounds of motown, which would foreshadow a little ‘doo wop’ in his future. Getting together with Miles Holmwood, Robert Chalifoux, Daniel Johnson, and Aaron Verdonk, Pat would spend his early 20’s as the frontman for Canadian pop punk rock band Stereos. The band blew up after being featured on Much Music’s “disBAND”, and winning over Gene Simmons. Stereos would teach Pat a lot about life in a band, being a rockstar (and unlearning the rockstar attitude), and hard work rehearsing five day a week paying off. Hits like “Summer Girl”, “Throw Ya Hands Up” and “Butterflies” would send the band up the charts. After his punk rock days would come to a close, Pat decided to lean into his Alberta side, and begin writing and recording country music. We talked with Pat about his career highs, lows, and more. We talked about the Stereos whirlwind, lessons learned from that exact whirlwind, and how his country music career aims to spark something new. We also talked about the Oilers….and his lifelong dedication to his hometown NHL team. His current single “Drive 85” is out now, which follows previous singles, “Outta Money, Outta Mind”, “Pour A Little My Way” and “Whiskey Like You”. Follow Delta Sweet on Instagram and TikTok. 4/8/2025
Send us a text On this week’s episode of On The Porch, we’re hanging out with Canadian country artist Melissa Livingstone, and let’s just say—this conversation is as fun as it is heartwarming. Melissa joins us from Nashville, but her roots run deep in the small town of Ucluelet, BC (which she kindly teaches us how to pronounce). Geography isn’t exactly our strong suit, but we get there... eventually. We chat about her journey from coastal Canada to the heart of country music, her early influences—including her mom teaching her to play piano—and the moment she knew music was the path she had to follow. RELATED: Melissa is one of our artists to watch for this year. See the rest of the list ... Just Getting Started After Playing At The Zach Bryan Quittin' Time Tour with Lucas Mason

3/11/2025
Send us a text Lucas Mason grew up in a musical household - so much so that his brother is part of his band. It wasn’t until he was bound and determined to get on stage with Zach Bryan, and it actually happening, that he began to crave a career performing. Lucas released his debut EP in January titled Almost 18, where he dives into the feelings and frustrations of being, well, 18. What are you chasing? With Kyle McKearney

2/25/2025
Send us a text We sat down with Kyle McKearney to talk about his journey through the alternative country music scene, from growing up in Northern British Columbia to making waves in Nashville and beyond. Kyle shared how his early musical influences, including his family band, shaped his sound and led him to where he is today. He opened up about his evolution as an artist—moving from rock to Americana and country—and why creating music for personal joy has become his focus. Kyle also reflected on Calgary’s supportive music community and the special bond he shares with his wife, Sarah, who is a key collaborator in his career. We got into his recent career milestones, including his music being featured on Heartland and winning Alternative Country Album of the Year at the CCMAs. He also talked about the highs and lows of songwriting, the creative process, and the balancing act between family life and touring. Oh, and did you know Kyle has a passion for construction and renovation? Turns out, music isn’t the only thing he builds. You can follow Kyle McKearney on Instagram, and Facebook. "Have you ever even been to Canada ?” 🇨🇦 with Jess Moskalule

2/11/2025
Send us a text We spent release day with Jess Moskaluke as she celebrated her first single in over a year. Jess recently released her single “Life For Me”; a creative departure that remains true to her evolved sound. She mentioned how “Life For Me” is if her 2020 single “Map Dot” had a cool older sister. We also talked about how “Map Dot” connected with so many people across Canada - whether they were from small map dot towns, or had some small town that was special for them. We talked about Jess’ “eras”, and what that means for her. She’s been releasing music for a long time, and for her, it’s about her own evolution, the things she’s experienced, and being true to herself - no matter the era. For her - that’s pretty important too. She’s received criticism over the years for not being country enough and being too Nashville. We also touched on her venture into the business side and management. After over a decade in the business, she’s got a lot of experience under her belt and has decided to share that with some emerging artists she’s working with. You can follow Jess Moskaluke on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and X. We’re so excited to bring back Season 4 of On The Porch with Front Porch Music.
