Patrick Pursley acquitted in 1993 murder

Patrick Pursley, who spent 23 years in prison for the 1993 killing of Andy Ascher, was acquitted on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, in a retrial before Judge Joe McGraw. Pursley was joined in support by Alan Beaman and John Horton, two other Rockford men who also had murder convictions thrown out after time in prison.

Fire damages former nursing home

Rockford Fire Department responded to a fire in the vacant former nursing home on North Main Street at about 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018. The fire damaged the first floor and extended to the second floor. Crews battled the blaze inside the building for about an hour and twenty minutes before stopping due to safety concerns regarding the structural integrity of the building, according to District Chief Luis Duran.
