Political violence is never the answer to our nation's problems, disagreements, and divisions. However, he couldn't even do bankruptcy right. The presiding judge has dismissed his bankruptcy case, stating, "the lack of financial transparency (by Giuliani) is particularly troubling given concerns that Mr. Giuliani has engaged in self-dealing and that he has potential conflicts of interest that would hamper the administration of his bankruptcy case". With the dismissal of Rudy's bankruptcy case, Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman can now use all legal mechanisms to collect the $148 million he owes them, including seizing his assets. Trump-appointed judge Aileen Cannon continues to wear her Trump favoritism on her sleeve. A number of motions filed by Jack Smith have languished, remaining unresolved for months. As but one example, back in May, Smith filed a motion asking Judge Cannon to modify Trump's conditions of release to stop him from lying about and endangering FBI agents. Cannon has sat on that motion. However, Trump filed a motion asking Cannon to stay or pause a number of deadlines in his Florida case while he briefs-up issues regarding presidential immunity. Judge Cannon acted on Trump's motion IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS, ruling in his favor and giving him precisely what he wants. As has long been the case, Cannon's "impartiality might reasonably be questioned," which is the federal legal standard requiring her disqualification from the case. But, of course, she will ignore the federal law and continue to preside over the prosecution of the very defendant who gave her her lifetime appointment to the federal bench. The Supreme Court didn't JUST rule that presidents have absolute presidential immunity. They actually ruled that presidents have absolute presidential immunity PLUS. Constitutional scholars left, right, and center are excoriating the new Supreme Court opinion that 1. contradicts the expressed language of our constitution, 2. actually repeals portions of our constitution, and, in essence, 3. declares the constitution is unconstitutional. Yes, that is illogical, but that is precisely what Chief Justice Roberts and the radical right-wing block of justices did in Trump vs. United States. This ruling gives Donald Trump a blueprint to convert America into a banana republic. And Donald Trump is exactly the kind of day-one-dictator who will do it. This ruling not only excuses lawless conduct by a corrupt president, it endorses such conduct, and thereby encourages future presidents to act lawlessly and to direct others to to the same then simply exercise his core constitutional power of the presidential pardon to pardon all of his criminal associates who carry out his unlawful commands. This is not just absolute presidential power. It is absolute presidential power PLUS. And like Dred Scott, Korematsu, and Plessy vs. Ferguson, this opinion must not stand. Just days after his right-wing Supreme Court justices gave him presidential immunity, Donald Trump has endorsed a military tribunal prosecution for former Congresswoman Liz Cheney. Presumably, the Supreme Court will have Trump's back on that crime as well. By granting Donald Trump immunity for the crimes he committed against the American people; the radical, right-wing block of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice John Roberts, actually encourages presidents to commit crimes. Eventually, this Supreme Court opinion will go the way of Dred Scott vs. Sanford, and Plessy vs. Ferguson - it will be reversed and will go down in American history as an opinion that sought to destroy honest and honorable governing, and accountability for crimes a president commits against the American people. The Supreme Court just can't quit Donald Trump. In an opinion by Chief Justice John Roberts, the Supreme Court disregards the plain language of a law by which Congress criminalized conduct that "obstructs, influences, or impedes any official proceeding." Roberts and the majority then delivers a gift to Donald Trump and several dozen of his insurrectionists. Another of Donald Trump's criminal flunkies - Steve Bannon - is now headed to prison on July 1st, given the Supreme Court has rejected his request to delay the commencement of his 4-month prison term. Bannon was convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress for defying congressional subpoenas to testify and to provide documents about the January 6th attack on the US Capitol which was designed to keep Trump in power after he lost the 2020 presidential election. Another criminal Trump flunky, Peter Navarro, was also ordered to serve a 4-month prison term for committing the same crimes Bannon committed. But this may end up being the first of multiple prison terms for Bannon. He is pending trial in New York State court for defrauding Trump supporters out of their money with a fictitious "We Build The Wall" foundation. Judge Jaun Merchan modified the gag order he had placed on Donald Trump. The gag order no longer prohibits Trump from talking about witnesses and jurors in his case. However, it remains in effect to protect court staff, prosecutors and their staff, and their respective family members. Needless to say, it's concerning that the witnesses and jurors are now unprotected from Trump's reckless, dangerous, and often violence-inducing rhetoric. However, there is a silver lining. Judge Aileen Cannon continues to give defendant Donald Trump - the very person who gave her her lifetime appointment as a federal judge - the delay he so covets. She continues to litigate frivolous motions that are forever being filed by Trump's attorneys, in an apparent attempt to delay Trump's federal prosecution in Florida as long as she can. Glenn discusses how judges nearly always set trial dates as a way to set intermediate deadlines for motions to be litigated and resolved: no trial date, no intermediate deadlines. It is becoming painfully obvious that delay IS the point of Judge Cannon's refusal to set a trial date.
