The Colorado Supreme Court removed former President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 presidential ballot on Tuesday after ruling that he engaged in an insurrection with his actions on January 6, 2021. The 4-3 ruling will be placed on hold pending appeal until January 4, the Court said in its ruling. “A majority of the court holds that President Trump is disqualified from holding the office of President under Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution,” the ruling said. “Because he is disqualified, it would be a wrongful act under the Election Code for the Colorado Secretary of State to list him as a candidate on the presidential primary ballot.” The Trump campaign responded to the ruling by saying that they would “swiftly file an appeal,” calling it “a completely flawed decision” that was “deeply undemocratic.” “We have full confidence that the U.S. Supreme Court will quickly rule in our favor and finally put an end to these unAmerican lawsuits,” a spokesperson for the campaign said. Blaze Media investigative journalist Steve Baker on Thursday said the U.S. Department of Justice will be charging him for his Jan. 6 reporting. "My attorney has just been notified by FBI that I am going to be charged by Justice Department for my journalistic efforts on #Jan6," Baker wrote Thursday on X. "I have to self-surrender on Tuesday. Charges are yet unknown. Stay tuned for more information to follow this afternoon." What are the details? Baker on Thursday told Blaze Media that FBI Special Agent Craig Noyes contacted his attorney in North Carolina and that Noyes said he doesn't know what the charges are — and won't know until the judge signs off on the warrant. Baker also told Blaze Media that if the Justice Department goes forward with charges, travel restrictions will be placed on him, which will hamper his reporting, as he's based in North Carolina but works a great deal in Washington, D.C., covering trials, viewing Jan. 6 videos, and speaking face-to-face with elected officials. Given Baker has been writing Blaze Media investigative stories on Jan. 6 since early October, Baker said he "cannot help but think the timing [of the impending charges] is suspect." A California middle-school student faced suspension for alleged "blackface" at a local football game, while a national civil rights organization argued it was merely eye paint. The eighth-grader, identified as J.A. for privacy, was photographed at a football game between La Jolla High School and Morse High School on October 13, sporting dark face paint on his cheeks and chin, as reported by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE). The boy's father recounted a trouble-free and enjoyable evening, and even mentioned a black security guard who encouraged his son to apply more face paint. However, a week after the game, Muirland Middle School's principal called for a meeting with J.A. and his parents, announcing a two-day suspension and a ban from future athletic events. A disciplinary notice accused J.A. of "painting his face black at a football game" and labeled it an "offensive comment with intent to harm." Principal Jeff Luna also cited the offensiveness of the face paint, attributing it to Morse High School's predominantly black student population, according to Cal Coast News.
