208. Waterworld (1995) – Mad Max, But Wet!

4/14/2026
Grab your jet skis and suspend your disbelief - it’s time for another high-seas episode of Podcast Assemble. The boys have been living large with F1 (Top Gun: Maverick in fast cars), while Tommy’s also recommending A24’s Eternity (2025)—apparently the perfect date night film if you enjoy quiet existential dread together. Then it’s onto the most expensive punchline of the ’90s: Waterworld (1995)—a film with a reputation… and maybe a redemption arc? Timecodes: Main Topic: Waterworld is what happens when Mad Max forgets the desert and commits fully to the ocean. Kevin Costner plays a gilled drifter navigating a flooded Earth, fighting off smokers, scavengers, and the lingering memory of its budget. Against all odds, Tommy reckons it holds up—and might even give modern blockbusters a run for their money. DL came in expecting a disaster and left pleasantly surprised. It’s chaotic, ambitious, and far more entertaining than its legacy suggests—like finding out the straight-to-DVD sequel is actually… decent. Is Waterworld an underrated cult classic—or just a very expensive swimming lesson? Let us know at thepodcastassemble@gmail.com or hit us up on socials. 207. Project Hail Mary (2026) – Science, Sacrifice & Surprisingly Emotional Maths

3/31/2026
SPECIAL EPISODE ALERT 🚨 - this week the boys are in the same room. Yes, after the last few years of Wi-Fi delays and “you go—no, you go,” DL is officially back in town and Podcast Assemble has gone fully native for a one off episode. Tommy’s coming in hot off 'Crime 101' (which DL insists sounds like a filler elective—and apparently was), while DL has progressed to Book 3 of The Wheel of Time—so he’s roughly 2% through the series. Then it’s onto Project Hail Mary (2026)—a film Tommy absolutely loved (spoilers) and has been waiting to talk about like it’s a personality trait. Timecodes: Main Topic: Project Hail Mary is a rare thing: a big-budget sci-fi that’s actually about ideas - and somehow makes them emotional. Following a lone astronaut tasked with saving Earth through science, problem-solving, and a rock, the film balances tension, humour, and genuine heart. Tommy was all in—hooked from the existential nature of the film. DL appreciated the ambition. It’s smart, sincere, and refreshingly earnest - like The Martian, but with more existential dread and fewer potatoes. Is Project Hail Mary a modern sci-fi classic—or just the most expensive group assignment ever put to screen? Let us know at thepodcastassemble@gmail.com or hit us up on socials. 206. "Wuthering Heights" (2026) – Romance, Revenge & Yorkshire Weather

3/17/2026
Bundle up and prepare for emotional damage—it’s time to wrap up the 'Uncomfortable Watch' trilogy on Podcast Assemble. The boys have been checking out Marvel’s new series Wonder Man (because the MCU refuses to sleep), while Tommy has unexpectedly fallen back in love with Scrubs: The Reboot—proof that sometimes nostalgia done right actually works. Then it’s onto Wuthering Heights (2026)—the latest attempt to adapt one of literature’s most miserable love stories. Timecodes: Main Topic: "Wuthering Heights" returns to the big screen with Emerald Fennell's all new brooding, betrayal laden, and bleak Yorkshire landscape soaked adaptation - what more could you possibly want?! This version of Heathcliff and Catherine’s story is still the ultimate romantic cautionary tale—less “love conquers all,” more “love ruins absolutely everything.” The film leans hard into atmosphere, tortured longing, and people staring dramatically across moors. DL admired the commitment to the gloom. Tommy spent a lot of time asking whether anyone in this story should actually be together. It’s tragic, poetic, and just a little exhausting. Is Wuthering Heights (2026) a sweeping gothic romance—or just two hours of beautiful people making terrible life choices in the wind? Let us know at thepodcastassemble@gmail.com or hit us up on socials. 205. Marty Supreme (2026) – Ping Pong, Power & Pure Ego

3/3/2026
Grab your paddles and your prestige cinema goggles—it’s time for another episode of Podcast Assemble. Tommy and DL are fresh off loving Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (finally, restrained Westeros) and Fallout Season 2 (yes, it somehow maintained the quality). Then it’s onto Marty Supreme (2026)—a film about ambition, ego, and table tennis… apparently. Timecodes: Main Topic: We're two thirds into our anxiety inducing trilogy, after Bugoni we serve up Marty Supreme (2026), the strange, swaggering story of a ping-pong prodigy clawing his way through 1950s America—part sports biopic, part character study, part fever dream. It’s stylish, self-aware, and occasionally unhinged, balancing satire with sincerity in ways that shouldn’t work—but kind of do. Tommy bought into the bravado. DL appreciated the craft, even when the film leaned a little too hard into myth-making. It’s less about table tennis and more about obsession—because in this world, every rally is a war. Is Marty Supreme an offbeat sports classic—or just a very expensive inside joke about ping pong? Let us know at thepodcastassemble@gmail.com or hit us up on socials. 204. Bugonia (2025) – Chief Extraterrestrial Officer

2/20/2026
Conspiracy theorists and Truthers at the ready—it’s time for another unhinged episode of Podcast Assemble. Tommy has been deep in Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, asking the question: why aren't all Westeros prequels this good? Then it’s onto Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest social fever dream: Bugonia (2025)—a remake that dares to ask, what if your eco-anxiety had a kidnapping subplot? Timecodes: Main Topic: Bugonia follows two conspiracy-minded men who abduct a powerful CEO, convinced she’s not human. What unfolds is part satire, part psychological spiral, and part awkward hostage dinner party. It’s absurd, uncomfortable, and deliberately off-balance—classic Lanthimos energy. Tommy admired the commitment to the bit. DL appreciated the craft, even while questioning his own sanity. It’s not subtle, it’s not warm, and it’s absolutely not for everyone—but that’s kind of the point. Is Bugonia razor-sharp satire for the algorithm age—or just another Lanthimos experiment that escaped the lab? Let us know at thepodcastassemble@gmail.com or hit us up on socials. 203. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple - HOWZAT!

2/3/2026
Grab your flares and suppress your emotions—it’s time for another bleak and brilliant episode of Podcast Assemble. DL’s the boys agree that Stranger Things was at worst satisfying, while we take a deep dive into James Islington’s The Strength of the Few (epic, dense, and emotionally devastating—just how we like it). Then it's time to descend into the nightmare that is 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple—a film we both loved, but we totally get if you didn’t. Timecodes: Main Topic: The Bone Temple is the haunting next chapter in the 28 Days Later saga—more psychological horror than zombie sprint-fest. It swaps the chaos of infection for the cold dread of cults, isolation, and a world that’s forgotten how to hope. Visually arresting and narratively brutal, it’s not here to hold your hand—it’s here to gnaw it off. DL praised its atmosphere. Tommy’s still recovering emotionally. It's bold, bleak, and exactly the kind of divisive cinema we wish studios made more of. Is 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple a high-concept horror masterpiece—or just two hours of beautifully shot human misery? Let us know at thepodcastassemble@gmail.com or hit us up on socials. 202. Best, Worst & Most Aquaman (2018) of 2025 Awards!

1/6/2026
Awards season is upon us—it's time to reflect and crown the best and worst of the year! The boys are back with the Podcast Assemble Best of 2025 Awards, celebrating a year of cinema with categories that actually matter: the "Adam Driver Performance Carrying a Thing Award", the "THAT Came Out This Year?" Award, and of course, the hallowed "Most Aquaman 2018 Movie of the Year Award". There will be spicy takes. There will be controversy. There may be a fight over Road House 2. Instead of recommendations, this week the boys are sharing what they’re most excited for in 2026! Timecodes: Main Topic: From overperforming dramas to mid-budget fever dreams, 2025 had it all—some of it great, most of it baffling. But can the boys agree on what is the best AND worst of 2025? Whether you're here for the honourable mentions or the dishonourable messes, there's a category for you. What were your best (and worst) films of 2025? Did we forget something major? 201. In Bruges (2008) - Movies set at Christmas, that aren’t Christmas movies!

12/23/2025
It’s the most inanimate time of the year! Kicking off our new Anthology series - Movies Set at Christmas, That Aren’t Christmas Movies - the boys revisit one of their all-time favourites: In Bruges (2008). Tommy’s been watching Diddy: The Reckoning (it’s… a lot), while DL’s juggling The Wheel of Time: Book 2 andTrue Grit the OG, both highly recommended. Then it’s time to check into Belgium’s darkest fairy tale, where the snow is festive, but the mood is not. Timecodes: Main Topic: In Bruges is Martin McDonagh’s pitch-black comedy about guilt, purgatory, and accidentally kicking a dwarf. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson shine as two hitmen laying low after a job gone wrong, while Ralph Fiennes turns up to scream about principles. It’s foul-mouthed, funny, and somehow heartfelt, like Home Alone if Kevin had PTSD and a Browning. DL calls it a masterpiece. Tommy would probably fight someone over that opinion. Everyone agrees: this is not a Christmas movie—but it kind of is. Is In Bruges the best anti-Christmas Christmas movie ever made? Let us know at thepodcastassemble@gmail.com or hit us up on socials. 200. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999) – Trade Deals & Trauma

12/9/2025
WE DID IT! It’s a Podcast Assemble milestone - 200 episodes in, and what better way to celebrate than with a film that derailed an entire childhood? Tommy’s been splitting time between Hell Is Us (moody, existential, and probably not finished) and Shrinking (Jason Segel unravelling in style). DL’s meditating on the Jedi Code. And this week, the boys revisit the galactic fever dream that is The Phantom Menace - the film that asked, What if space wizards had senate hearings? Timecodes: Main Topic: Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace is George Lucas at his most Lucas. It’s got politics, podracing, and a child with dangerous midi-chlorian levels. It introduces us to Darth Maul (the best character with the least screen time), the somehow-royal Queen Amidala, and everyone's "favourite" Gungan, Jar Jar Binks. Tommy’s still hates Liam Neeson. DL's trying to see the good in it (mostly John Williams). There’s lore, there’s lightsabers, and there’s SENATE HEARINGS Is The Phantom Menace an ambitious, misunderstood space opera—or just a two-hour galactic trade dispute with cool sound design? 199. The Running Man (2025) – Squid Game with a Protein Shake (ft. Regs!)

11/25/2025
This week's episode is brought to you by No Country for Old Films! Tommy & Reg's new podcast - check them out on YouTube, Spotify and all the socials! Grab your contractually obligated Lycra and energy drink sponsorship - it’s time for another turbo-charged episode of Podcast Assemble! This week, the boys are joined by. Regs! Tommy’s been brushing up on L.A. Confidential (because noir never dies), DL’s still swimming with The Sopranos (he’s all in on gabagool culture). Then it’s on to the big reboot of the dystopian deathmatch classic: The Running Man (2025). Timecodes: Main Topic: The Running Man (2025) reboots the Reagan-era bloodsport satire for a streaming-obsessed world—and somehow makes it feel even more plausible. Contestants now fight for their lives in a gladiator arena that looks suspiciously like a YouTube thumbnail. The new host is as bombastic, the deaths more algorithmic, but will the 1987 classic be getting a revival after this? DL thinks it has its moments. Tommy’s mostly impressed they managed to make it more depressing and more expensive. Is The Running Man (2025) a smart, savage update—or just Black Mirror with gym memberships? 198. Predator: Badlands (2025) - Delicious Yum cha Predators

11/12/2025
Lock and load—it’s time for another heat-vision-fuelled episode of Podcast Assemble! Tommy’s diving deep into 'Empire of Silence' by Christopher Ruocchio (lyrical and epic), and Del Toro’s 'Frankenstein' (what you get if Mary Shelley met Gotye). Then it’s onto Predator: Badlands (2025)—because the jungle wasn’t harsh enough, apparently. Timecodes: Main Topic: Predator: Badlands strips away the jungle, suspense, and fun—and replaces it with generic planet. Generic alien planet. Set in a monster filled dystopia where the Predator must prove itself. This was certainly a movie. It’s a survival thriller that forgets to thrill. Is Predator: Badlands a gritty return to form—or just another sand-blasted scream into the franchise void? Let us know at thepodcastassemble@gmail.com or hit us up on socials. 197. The Running Man (1987) – Kill or Be Cancelled

10/28/2025
Lace up your fireproof spandex—it’s time for another dystopian episode of Podcast Assemble! This week, DL’s been to Egypt (queue tinfoil hat time), while Tommy’s was really disappointed with Peacemaker season 2. Then it’s time to drop into The Running Man (1987), where Arnie outruns death and network ratings—sometimes simultaneously. Timecodes: Main Topic: The Running Man is peak '80s dystopia: bright colours, big muscles, and a future so grim it's basically Tuesday. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as a wrongly accused man forced into a televised murder gauntlet hosted by a smarmy game show host and patrolled by stalkers with the subtlety of WWE villains. It’s satire, it’s camp, it’s somehow prophetic. Tommy loves the campiness. DL still trying to process the Stalkers' outfits. Spoiler: there's an opera singing Christmas tree. Is The Running Man biting social commentary wrapped in neon lycra—or just a dumb, glorious excuse for Arnie to punch buzzsaws? Let us know at thepodcastassemble@gmail.com or hit us up on socials. 196. One Battle After Another (2025) – More Grief Than Grenades

10/14/2025
Assemble your resistance fighters and daddy issues - it’s time for another heavy-hitting episode of Podcast Assemble! Tommy’s bringing Naked Gun 2025 to the table (it exists, and somehow isn't terrible), while DL’s dusted off the spine of The Wheel of Time Book 1—because nothing says light reading like 800 pages of lore. Then it’s onto this week’s main event: Paul Thomas Anderson's latest spectacle One Battle After Another—the slow-burn epic with more trauma than gunpowder. Timecodes: Main Topic: One Battle After Another is not your dad’s war film. It’s part PTSD spiral, part arthouse endurance test, and full of actors staring into the middle distance like they’ve forgotten their lines—or their will to live. The film drops you into the trenches and never quite lets you out. The boys have some spicy opinions about those 100% Rotten Tomato scores that were flying around. 195. Tron (1982) – Welcome to the Mainframe, User

9/28/2025
Boot up and log in—it’s time for another pixelated episode of Podcast Assemble! Tommy’s recommending Aunty Donna Live (imagine Monty Python got stuck in a Melbourne pub with Flight of the Conchords), while DL’s checkin-in on 'Wednesday' -Netflix’s goth megahit that somehow feels like homework, but for everyone. Tommy also watched MobLand, and can confirm: it exists. Then it’s time to jack into the mainframe with the OG computer-core fever dream: Tron (1982). Timecodes: Main Topic: Tron is a neon-drenched, early-'80s vision of cyberspace—equal parts arcade acid trip and philosophical head-scratcher. Jeff Bridges plays a dude who gets laser-zapped into a computer, fights for his life inside a glowing jumpsuit, and basically invents digital vibes. Tommy's impressed by the ambition (if not the pacing). DL's just here for cult legacy. It’s dated, daft, and oddly prophetic—like a tech demo with a god complex. 194. Weapons (2025)

9/16/2025
Assemble your courage and questionable life choices - and that's just to see our faces in 4K HD! DL’s finally gets his wish, as Tommy is up to date on Pierce Brown's Light Bringer (we have 🌶️ takes), while Drey also finished the Wheel of Time first book. Then it’s onto Weapons (2025) - Zach Cregger’s follow-up to Barbarian, and let’s just say... things escalate quickly. Timecodes: Main Topic: Weapons is a fractured nightmare stitched together from suburban paranoia, internet-age folklore, and the kind of vibes you get when someone asks, “Did you hear a noise?” but never turns the lights on. Think 'The Witches' meets 'Sinister' via Reddit rabbit hole. The film explores interconnected stories unraveling after a disturbing small-town incident, asking: what if your trauma had Wi-Fi? DL’s intrigued. Tommy’s uncomfortable - and that’s a compliment. Is Weapons another indie-horror classic, or just Barbarian’s weird cousin who won’t stop talking about symbolism? 193. Oldboy (2003)

8/16/2025
Octopus, Inc*st, and Existential Dread Time to spin the wheel as Podcast Assemble dive into an all new Anthology (not that we need another)! This week we delve into DL's IMDb list and chose quite possibly the darkest flick yet to be watched. Before that the boys recommend the Disney series Hit Monkey, along with something to even you out after the Main Topic, with James May: Our Man in Japan. Then it’s time to unpack Park Chan-wook’s cinematic gut-punch: Oldboy (2003). Timecodes: Main Topic: Oldboy is a brutal, operatic revenge tale soaked in hammer fights, live octopus eating, and existential dread. Part noir, part Greek tragedy, the film follows Oh Dae-su - a man imprisoned for 15 years without explanation, then released into a mystery more disturbing than his sentence. DL's all in on the filmmaking masterclass. Tommy can’t stop thinking about the hallway scene... It’s stylish, shocking, and not for the faint of heart - or the spoiler-averse. Have you seen Oldboy? 8/4/2025
Is there a movie coming out this summer that DOESN'T include Pedro Pascal or Joseph Quinn? Assemble your first family - it’s time for Podcast Assemble to head back to the cinema! DL’s spiralling deeper into Alan Wake 2 (he swears it’s not just about the fleshlight), while Tommy’s hyped about Love, Death & Robots returning to melt minds and screens alike. Then it’s on to the MCU's Phase 6 opening: 'Fantastic Four: First Steps'—the film that hopes third time’s the charm. Timecodes: Main Topic: ♪FANTASTICCC FOUURRRR♪ First Steps reintroduces Marvel’s first family with fresh faces, new timelines (Earth 828), and enough "family" to make Vin Diesel proud. It’s part origin story, part interdimensional cosmic exploration, and all about making you care about Marvels first family. DL is impressed with emotional stakes, while Tommy’s dig's the earnestness. It’s hopeful, high-concept, and surprisingly human—for a movie featuring a talking rock. Is Fantastic Four: First Steps a rival to James Gunn's Superman? 7/24/2025
*Apologies for the late release* Grab your capes and questionable disguises—it's time for another heroic episode of Podcast Assemble! This week, the boys are talking - Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (living up to the Game of the Year shouts) and DL returns toYellowJackets (to give it one more opportunity..). Then it’s onto Superman (2025) - James Gunn’s first cinematic foray into the DC Universe. Timecodes: Main Topic: Superman (2025) reboots the Man of Steel with fresh ideals, a younger cast, and marginally less property damage. It's truth, justice, and… pocket dimensions(?), as Clark Kent juggles alien identity issues, with newsroom deadlines and caped crusading. Will it live up to Tommy’s hype, as one of his most anticipated for the year? Is this the hopeful Superman we’ve been waiting for - or just another DC reboot stuck in a phone booth? 190. Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025): What you get if Chat GPT writes a Jurassic Park script?

7/6/2025
Roar into another episode of Podcast Assemble with the boys! This week’s recommendations include Dept. Q from Netflix, an intense Detective thriller and Annihilation - the book not the movie, (actually go back and listen to our episode on the movie if you're interested). Then it’s on to Jurassic World: Rebirth—because apparently, life finds a way to greenlight sequels. Timecodes: Main Topic: Jurassic World: Rebirth asks the bold question: what if we made dinosaurs even bigger and humans even dumber? As genetically-enhanced apex predators roam a world that still hasn’t learned its lesson, we get more roaring, more running, and more moral lessons ignored in favour of spectacle. This movie leaves the boys wondering how many times we’ll re-learn that weaponising dinosaurs is a terrible idea.
