#180: La Salvezza

4/28/2024
As County haul themselves over the line after a draining, frustrating but also at times surprising and memorable season, we check in for our final regular episode of 2023/24. We'll have a full end-of-season review and some summer specials in the weeks ahead - but for this one we've got Ian Street's match diary from Bradford (a), and then we chat with Amber Arnie and Nigel Dutson about what they learnt at last Thursday's meeting of the Newport County AFC Supporters' Trust. In passing we mention that our 1912 Exiles sticker packs remain on sale, should you want to send us a few quid. And we also invite you to give us the lamest reason you've used for leaving a County game early this season. You can get in touch via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. Thank you for all the support you've given us this season - and thank you Tinty & The Bucket Hats for continuing to let us use Discoland as our theme tune. What lovely boys. Hosted on Acast. #179: Feeble, weak and not ourselves

4/13/2024
Six defeats on the bounce, so it's not the most uplifting episode. In the first half, Jack and Ed discuss the defeat to Tranmere and Cocko's post-match critique. In the second half, we throw it open to your voicenotes and reaction. Many thanks to everyone who sent in contributions. There's not a lot to cheer the County faithful at the moment - but our 1912 Exiles sticker packs are the best chance you've got. Only a fiver - go on, treat yourself. As always, you can get in touch via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. Thanks as always to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for letting us use Discoland as our theme, and thanks to all of you for listening. #178: Jekyll & Jekyll

4/9/2024
Two cheeks of the same arse, those two performances. Ian reports on the away defeat at Grimsby, lightening the gloom with some whimsical chat about floodlights and sea views. Ed then takes up the reins for a Tuesday night at home to Accrington Stanley in front of 3,000 die-hards, chatting along the way with yer Ollies, yer Stus, yer Chrises and yer Amber Arnies. Not many things to cheer the County faithful at the moment - but d'you know what would brighten your mood? Some 1912 Exiles stickers, that's what. Only a fiver - go on, treat yourself. As always, you can get in touch via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. Thanks as always to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for letting us use Discoland as our theme, and thanks to all of you for listening. #177: April fools

4/2/2024
Our first big panel discussion for a while - sadly sans Rhys, but Jack does an excellent job of corralling Ian, Ed & Jamie to make sense of recent events. It's a long one, this episode, so here's what to expect and when in the episode (rough timings, depends on adverts length!): Ian will hopefully be back next weekend with a diary from the Grimsby game. In the meantime, you can contact us via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn, and you can support us at our ko-fi page should you wish. Thanks as always to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for letting us use Discoland as our theme, thanks to Phil from Northampton for submitting the quiz, and thanks to all of you for listening - especially those who sent in questions for us to answer. #176: Blown away at Barrow

3/24/2024
It's another Ian Street match diary, but sadly without quite the same level of joie de vivre as last weekend. The "fifth Beatle" of the pod, Ollie, also makes an appearance - but neither of them find much to warm the soul from a frustrating and cold afternoon in Barrow. The podcast, like the NHS, remains proudly free at the point of need. However, if you are able to chip in to support what we do then you can visit our ko-fi page; anyone setting up a regular £2pm donation will get a little thank you present in the post. And if you can't spare any money, that's fine - but please do recommend us to a friend and leave us a nice review somewhere. We've not had a full panel discussion for a while, and the plan is to do that next weekend to review the two Easter games and also pick up on other recent under-discussed moments - not least that 5-3 win against Morecambe! If you have any questions you'd like us to consider, get in touch via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. Thanks as always to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for letting us use Discoland as our theme, and thanks to all of you for listening. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

#175: A grand day out (Wimbledon away)

3/18/2024
Well, get ready for an Ian Street matchday diary extraordinaire, ably supported by Ed & Jamie, as well as an assortment of guest appearances, including Stu, Fraser, Ollie, the Dragons Lair podcast & more! Wimbledon still doesn't know what hit it. Anyone setting up a £2pm donation via our ko-fi account before the month is out will receive a mystery gift through the post - do support us if you can. And if you can't, please at least leave a nice review via your podcatcher or give us a plug on social media. We'll be back next weekend with Ian's trip to Barrow, before Jamie decants himself in Colchester. In the meantime, get in touch via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn if you want to. Thanks as always to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for letting us use Discoland as our theme, and thanks to all of you for listening. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

#174: Madden-ing

3/10/2024
So near, but yet so far... Analysing that painful late, late defeat at Edgeley Park, Ed & Jamie are joined by pod debutant Alfie and regular contributor Ollie to question the officiating whilst still paying tribute to a battling performance that so nearly paid off. Ahead of Tuesday night's Fourth Division game against Morecambe, we also thank Dave Salmon for his voicenote telling us everything we need to know about our visitors. Right at the start, Ed teased you by saying that anyone setting up a £2pm donation via our ko-fi account before the month is out will receive a mystery gift through the post - do support us if you can. And if you can't, please at least leave a nice review via your podcatcher or give us a plug on social media. We'll be back next weekend with an episode covering the Morecambe game and also the Big Lads Day Out to AFC Wimbledon - it should be a fun one, come and say hullo if you see us. In the meantime, get in touch via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn if you want to. #173: Staggered!

3/2/2024
The 1912 Exiles threw this one open to you - our wonderful listeners - to make sense of today's defeat to Mansfield. Some agreed with our view that today just needs to be dismissed as an off day against a quality side - others argued that this showed a lack of ambition, and wholesale changes are required. There were some strong words for the ref, differing opinions about the quality of our opponents, and a lot of looking ahead to what the summer might hold. Whether you agree with us and we agree with you, thank you to everyone who took the time to send stuff in. And if you missed your opportunity today then you can contact us through Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, and you can contribute a voicenote via our Speakpipe page. Thanks as always to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for letting us use Discoland as our theme, and thanks to all of you for listening. If you like what we do, you can donate the price of a Bovril towards our running costs through our ko-fi account. We'll be back next weekend - but until then, look after yourselves and each other, and Keep It County. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

#172: Harrogate (A) a.k.a. Newport County 4

2/28/2024
Our man on the northern beat, Ian Street, makes a rare foray even further towards the arctic to bring you a matchday diary from Harrogate away. In the middle of a dizzying start to 2024, Newport County find themselves just two points off the playoffs, with huge games to come in the next few weeks. But instead of feeling daunted by games against the league's top two, why not settle in with a heartwarming listen, as Ian does battle with the Harrogate PA system, shares his best Martin Tyler, "Agueroooooooo" impression, and a bit of potted history about the Bath Spa of the north. Don't forget, we have two excellent episodes in our feed: our chat with Newport County media manager Louis Cartwright-Walls and South Wales Argus wordsmith Chris Kirwan on the media storm surrounding the Manchester United game last month; and our interview with Martin Calladine about his new book, No Questions Asked: how football joined the crypto con. Both well worth checking out if you haven't already. Keep your eyes peeled for some more interviews in the coming weeks and months, as well as our regular panel chats and matchday diaires. In the meantime, you can follow us on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn and send us your thoughts and questions. You can also contribute a voicenote via our Speakpipe page or donate the price of a Bovril towards our running costs through our ko-fi account. #171: In the eye of the media storm

2/24/2024
In a highly unusual move, we're dropping an episode on a Saturday and bringing you another belting interview. In this one, Jamie speaks with Chris Kirwan (of the South Wales Argus) and Louis Cartwright-Walls (Media Manager for Newport County AFC) about being at the centre of the media storm during our FA Cup tie with Manchester United. They discuss having to stay professional when all around them were getting carried away with the hype, the mixed feelings towards the journos turning up to Rodney Parade as one-off day-trippers, and their matchday routines. Be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn and send us your thoughts and questions. #170: Notts, Gills and crypto

2/19/2024
Another 'pod of two halves' as we balance analysis of on-the-pitch matters with a broader look at other issues. Part 1 of this episode is a catch up between Rhys and Ed about the home matches against Notts County and Gillingham, with County demonstrating great 'bouncebackability' powered by Will Evans' scoring antics. Then, in Part 2, we speak with Martin Calladine about his new book, No Questions Asked: how football joined the crypto con. The book is excellent, and comes highly recommended by your 1912 Exiles, and Martin gives us his insights into how poorly-regulated and often criminal crypto enterprises have preyed on football fans. In the absence next weekend of County playing a proper game against an opponent who deserves to exist, we'll bring you another cracking interview in lieu of a match report; stay subscribed so you don't miss out. In the meantime, you can follow us on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn and send us your thoughts and questions. You can also contribute a voicenote via our Speakpipe page or donate the price of a Bovril towards our running costs through our ko-fi account. #169: Walsall away, feat. H.W.J. Charsley

2/11/2024
We were going to wait until after the Notts County game to drop an episode, but after THAT 3-0 win up at Walsall, Jamie demanded an emergency pod. So he dragged Ed out of bed on a Sunday morning, and with the help of Arnie's match day diary, they dissected that cracking away performance. Also in the pod: how can Newport cope with a tough run of fixtures coming up? How many leaders can one side have? Is H.W.J. Charsley a butcher, a poet, or a 19th Century sportsman? #168 - Swindon win, Newport City Women & talkSPORT!

2/4/2024
#168 - Swindon win, and Newport City Women After 167 episodes, Ep168 marks a bit of a new era for the 1912 Exiles.... We are delighted to announce that we have partnered with talkSPORT to be a part of their fan network of podcasts, hear more at the top of the pod. The first half of the episode is an Ed (https://toot.wales/@DrEdBridges) match diary of the game against Swindon Town, with guest input from Robins fan Phil (https://twitter.com/philmoomp) as well as Hazells Stand regulars Stu, Fraser, Ollie and Chris. Despite an immediate setback, a tactical masterstroke at half-time saw County conjour up a win which leaves them on 40pts and looking firmly up the table. In the second half of the show, we bring you the first of a few planned bonus features over the coming month. In this one, we check in with Newport City Women FC (https://twitter.com/newportcitywfc) , hearing from their players Amy Doswell and Sophie Jenkins about how their season is going and how healthy the women's game is in Newport more generally. If you want to lend them your support, the games they mention at the end are away at Cardiff City U19s at Ocean Park in Cardiff on Sunday 11 February (2pm) and a big game at Newport Velodrome against Penybont on Sunday 21 April (also 2pm). #167: Manchester United, Wrexham, Huw Jenkins

1/30/2024
It’s been SOME week for Newport County. We beat Wrexham at home, we had Manchester United RATTLED (for 21 minutes), Huw Jenkins has formally taken over the club, and the Supporters’ Trust held its AGM. We also signed someone! So, no wonder this pod turned into a bumper episode. Jamie, Ian, Ed, and Jack all convened in the aftermath of that FA Cup game at Rodney Parade to chew the fat. Also in this pod: wine chat, the most expensive Newport County tickets ever sold, and the result of a full AVENGERS ASSEMBLE meet up of the entire pod crew for the first time. HUGE thanks to our regular ko-fi contributors: Mark Williams, Daniel Heirene, Hamid Baladabadi, Martin Kings and the Row Z Exiles WhatsApp Group. And to our recent contributors: Mark, Tony and Gav, plus also Carol who thrust a fiver at Ed during the AGM. Your generous support helps us keep the lights on and produce more Newport County content. #166: Man Utd preview

1/21/2024
Yes yes, we know that there's the big victory over Wrexham to discuss – but we wanted to cynically capitalise on the extra interest around the Man Utd game, so we’ve created this big preview show. We’ll do a feature-length episode in a week or so to discuss how we managed to bring down the Gogs and also however we fare in the FA Cup Fourth Round. In this preview, lovingly compèred by Jack, you will hear: JamieEdIanIs Sunday’s game against Man Utd the biggest County have ever played? No Question About ThatRhysAt the start, Jack mentions our ko-fi - if you're able to throw in the price of a Bovril towards what we do, it'd be appreciated. If you're not, then that's fine, but do leave us a nice review or recommend us to a friend instead. Contact us via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn with your thoughts. #165: Rope a Dope!

1/13/2024
Yes yes, we know everyone's excited for the potential trio of Eastleigh (a), Wrexham (H) and possibly Man Utd (H) - but before that, we've got an important trip to Doncaster which needs our attention. Who else would we send to this one but Ian Street? On his travels, he chats with Ollie, Stu, Fraser and even the Usually-Unlucky Amber Arnie - but perhaps today might be the day he breaks his duck! We gave a plug to our ko-fi - if you're able to throw in a few quid then thank you; if you're not then that's fine, but do leave us a nice review or recommend us to a friend instead. Amber Arnie is back again with an away match diary - this time on the disappointment of two dropped points in Sutton, and his intact record of not reporting on an away win. After that, Ed interviews Eastleigh's U18s manager and Newport County fan Ashley Healey ahead of the teams' meeting on Saturday in the FA Cup. Oh, and there's a bit of belated festive fun with a response to our challenge for listeners to come up with an Offrande Zanzala Christmas pun...
