Diana Cojocari pleads guilty to not reporting daughter missing

5/21/2024
Diana Cojocari, the mother of missing Cornelius girl Madalina Cojocari, pleaded guilty Monday to not reporting her daughter missing back in 2022. Diana Cojocari has been in jail since December 2022, about a month after Madalina was last seen leaving her school bus in Cornelius, North Carolina, which is about 20 miles north of Charlotte in northern Mecklenburg County. Diana Cojocari initially pleaded not guilty to the charge of failing to report her daughter's disappearance, which is a Class 1 felony. Monday, in court she changed that plea to guilty without a plea agreement. The judge told Diana Cojocari, who is not an American citizen and is originally from Moldova, that she was likely to be deported if she changed her plea. SouthPark fire 1 year later: Officials still figuring out 'lessons learned'

5/17/2024
A year after one of the worst fires in Charlotte history trapped and then killed two construction workers, the Charlotte Fire Department has yet to finish its "deep dive" of the day's events. WCNC Charlotte has spent months routinely checking in with the department about the status of its SouthPark fire internal review. In the days after the May 18, 2024 fire, public records reveal Chief Reginald Johnson noted Charlotte Fire would not do a "normal" critique. Emails show the department created a committee last summer, suggesting everyone could "benefit from closely examining the events of that day and learning from it." Search continues to find remains of missing North Carolina teen Baylee Carver

5/14/2024
A search is underway for an Albemarle teen's remains as police believe she is dead. The Albemarle Police Department said officers responded to a home along Floral Drive at 4:30 a.m. Friday after getting a 9-1-1 call from someone asking for help. The department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said their inquiry led them to determine that 17-year-old Baylee Carver had died. According to court documents, investigators believe Biles moved Carver's body from a Floral Drive home and hid it. They also say Carver's body had "obvious wounds indicating an unnatural death." As the search for the victim's remains continues, investigators have not explained how they knew her body had wounds. Officer killed in Charlotte shooting to be laid to rest

5/13/2024
The Charlotte community will gather in Uptown on Monday to say its final goodbyes to one of the four officers killed in a shooting last month. U.S. Marshals Task Force Officer Sam Poloche was killed on April 29 when investigators were serving warrants at a home in east Charlotte. Five other officers were hurt during the shootout, including four Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers. With no extension in sight for the grants, hundreds of child care facilities say they'll be forced to close their doors. Experts worry it could have a catastrophic effect on North Carolina's economy. Millions of Americans changed jobs at the height of the pandemic in a movement now known as the "great resignation." And while the pandemic gave many people an opportunity to start over, many of those same people regret changing jobs. Ben Thompson connects the dots on resignation regrets impacting nearly half of people who changed jobs during the pandemic.
