Weekly Best of Todd Allbaugh Show for May 4

5/4/2024
On Protests And Responsible Journalism: Protests over the war in Gaza have come to a head at UW Madison. Is it comparable to what’s happening at Columbia University, or is it being blown out of proportion on the news and social media? We welcome Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project to discuss their perspective on news coverage of protests. While Pat focuses on the journalism side, Trygve delves deeper into the politics of these protests. He and Todd believe that it is shortsighted to vote against “Genocide Joe.” If people believe that President Biden is mismanaging the situation, they should imagine what would happen with Trump in charge. Donald Trump has explicitly said he would encourage Russia to “do whatever the hell they want.” He would offer a blank check to Israel. Joe Biden is the only sane choice on this and many other issues. The Todd Allbaugh Show is a part of the Civic Media radio network and airs Monday through Friday from 12 - 2 pm across Wisconsin. Trump In Waukesha Recap: “Ladies And Gentlemen, Vote For Biden!” (Hour 2)

5/2/2024
In today’s first hour, we shared remarks from President Biden about pro-Palestinian protests at universities around the country. This hour, we compare those statements with those of his opponent, Donald Trump. Yesterday, Trump spoke in Waukesha, and his message could not be more divorced from American ideals. He is not shy about what he will do if put back in power, and it wouldn’t be pretty for anybody around the globe. On a lighter note, we wrap up today’s show with a celebration of Smokey the Bear’s birthday! Get Smoked At Applebee’s (Hour 2)

4/30/2024
Breaking news: Democratic leadership in the House of Representatives announced that they plan to help Speaker Mike Johnson keep his job. Todd also shares some even bigger news. The DEA is likely to shift the classification of marijuana, due to its medical applications and lower abuse potential than many other federally illegal drugs. This change, spurred by the Biden administration, could have far-reaching implications, including the scrubbing of some marijuana-related charges from criminal records. For today’s edition of What’s Worse, Todd pits two hometown restaurant chains against one another. We take your calls and texts on the best restaurants to find cougars, apparently. Over the weekend, President Biden spoke at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. We share some of his best zingers, as well as part of host Colin Jost’s speech. Pebbles And Robotic Flamethrower Dogs (Hour 2)

4/26/2024
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons, Aaron’s board game of the week is Old-School Essentials. Tabletop roleplaying games are an incredible way to hang out with friends or meet new ones. They provide a creative outlet, engaging puzzles, and so much more. If you’re interested in experiencing the roots of D&D, you’re far better off picking up a copy of these rules. They’re easier to understand, and you can get the basic rules online for free. LIVE: State Senate Democratic Committee Press Conference (Hour 1)

4/25/2024
Today, the State Senate Democratic Committee held a press conference on the string of UW campus closures. We carried it live, only to discover that it wasn’t really about that. It really boiled down to a political hit job on Joan Ballweg. Nothing they said was unwarranted or inaccurate, but the press conference was labeled in a misleading manner. Closing Campuses Is Shortsighted (Hour 2)

4/24/2024
Todd is fired up today! After last night’s forum on UW campus closures in Muscoda, he has renewed hope for the future of two-year campuses. This hour, we hear from David Turk, the newly elected Chair of the Richland County Board, on the impact that this debacle has on communities around Wisconsin. As we’ve heard for over a year and a half now, local authorities and community members have gone above and beyond in the search for a solution that keeps campuses alive. Time and again, UW System leadership have been minimally responsive, if at all. At the bottom of the hour, we are joined by State Senator Kelda Roys, co-host of last night’s event. We listen to some audio from the forum and talk about what we as citizens can do to save our schools. Get Up And Support Wisconsin Schools! (Hour 1)

4/24/2024
Last night, State Senator Kelda Roys and Representative Katrina Shankland held a public forum in Muscoda on the string of two-year UW campus closures. Approximately 100 people showed up, crossing political party lines to discuss the importance of higher education in our state. Will this reignite the Wisconsin idea in the hearts of the people and our legislature? Our usual Wednesday guests, Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project, provide their analysis on this attack on education. Smooth, Lumpy, Squishy, And Tubby (Hour 2)

4/23/2024
In today’s second hour, Todd answers the question asked by the Trump campaign: are we better off than we were four years ago? First of all, that question is stolen from Ronald Reagan’s campaign, just like the phrase “(let’s) Make America Great Again.” Regardless of its origin, the answer to that question is a resounding “yes.” Trump’s administration botched the handling of global health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, and nothing makes this more clear than Trump’s recommendation to drink and/or inject bleach. Like most authoritarian actors, Donald Trump is clear about his intent. He has leaned into rhetoric that echoes Adolf Hitler, and claims that he will indeed become a dictator, even if allegedly only for a day. Lara Trump was also very clear over the weekend, claiming that if elected, Donald Trump will bring about “four years of scorched Earth.” We finish off the show with the most important question of the day: should mashed potatoes be smooth or lumpy? Mike Johnson Defends Democracy? (Hour 1)

4/23/2024
Yesterday’s show was jam-packed full of Earth Day conservation tips, so the weekend news had to wait until today. This past weekend was incredibly consequential. Speaker Mike Johnson brought foreign aid votes, including Ukraine, to the floor, and they all passed with varying degrees of success. While we disagree with nearly everything Mike Johnson says and does, he was on the right side of history this time as he supports Ukraine. Luke Mathers continues the conversation on Ukrainian aid on today’s edition of Tuesday Tangents! He and Todd also debate the ethics of bringing NIL money into high school sports.
