Finding Connection and Purpose Through Sourdough, Service, and Spiritual Promptings
4/17/2026
This week, I'm joined by Ganel-Lyn Condie: author, speaker, and, as you'll hear, self-proclaimed sourdough novice turned minister. We dive into the unique ministry she's developed through sharing homemade sourdough bread, and how something as simple as a loaf can be a conduit for connection, kindness, and even healing. Have you ever tried to turn a hobby or struggle into a way to bless others? Ganel-Lyn shares candidly about her own failures, triumphs, and the people who showed up just when she needed a "Sue" herself.
But the real magic of this conversation is about more than bread. We talk about the quiet seasons of life—those stretches when our roles, routines, and identities seem to shift beneath our feet. What does it look like to listen for promptings, act on them (especially when they're unexpected or uncomfortable), and trust God with the outcomes? Whether your thing is chocolate cake, sourdough, or just lending a listening ear, Ganel-Lyn reminds us that small offerings and moments of ministering have big ripple effects.
So as you listen, think about what you might have to offer—however ordinary or unfinished it feels right now. Who do you know that needs a little "sourdough ministry"? Who needs a text, a cake, or just a listening friend? Let's make space for the quiet miracles that show up when we dare to reach out.

Simple Ways to See the Hand of God in Daily Life
4/10/2026
This week, I’m sharing some thoughts fresh from a talk I gave in sacrament meeting—and giving you a peek behind the curtain about what was on my mind as I wrote it. Ever wonder how we actually “find the Savior in everyday life”? It’s a question I was assigned to wrestle with, and it got me thinking: do we stumble into moments where we feel Christ’s presence, or do we have to search for Him intentionally? Together, we’ll explore not just the unexpected ways we might notice the divine, but how choosing to look shapes what we find.
I’ll walk you through a quirky (and maybe slightly ridiculous) experiment—what do unicorns, purple trucks, and hidden hearts have to do with recognizing God? More than you’d expect! Join me as I share a three-step invitation for making these small moments matter: remembering God loves us, practicing gratitude, and looking outward for someone else who needs to be noticed.
This episode is a simple pause to let you connect, reflect, and maybe even see the everyday with new eyes. As you listen, I hope you’ll find your own sweet nuggets of goodness, and maybe even an unexpected heart or two along the way.

The Spirit of Contention: Understanding Gospel Perspectives on Disagreement
4/3/2026
This week, I’m not alone in the Chocolate Cake Bytes studio—Verlin from the Cultural Hall podcast joins me for a conversation that’s more lively (and maybe less wisecracking) than going solo. We take on a topic that gets thrown around a lot in church settings: is there really a difference between conflict and contention? And are we “of the devil” every time we disagree?
Verlin and I go deep into what the scriptures actually say—and what they don’t—about the spirit of contention and how sometimes, avoiding conflict isn’t as virtuous as we might think. Along the way, we laugh about sibling boxing matches, rebellious chili spice levels, and the perils of answering, “Does this make me look fat?” But the heart of the episode is a practical, gospel-centered look at how facing disagreements with honesty and kindness can help us grow—and how curating our lives and even our social media feeds toward goodness can help us avoid contention, not conflict.
If you’ve ever found yourself tiptoeing around hard conversations, or you’re wondering how to handle “porcupines” in your life, this episode is for you. Let’s learn how to resolve differences while keeping the sweet spirit the gospel offers.

Rethinking Repentance and Forgiveness During Holy Week
3/27/2026
Easter is just around the corner, and this week I'm getting thoughtful about how we experience and understand Holy Week. Why are so many of us in the Church increasingly focused on Easter as a season, not just a one-day celebration? I share some personal reflections on what Easter means to me, and why this time of year draws my heart back to the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the gift of forgiveness.
But here’s the twist: Have we misunderstood how repentance and forgiveness work? I unpack the common belief that repentance is the "price" we pay for forgiveness—and why I think that’s totally missing the point. Inspired by insights from teaching BYU-Idaho Pathways students and reading Elder Andersen’s The Divine Gift of Forgiveness, I explore the idea that forgiveness isn’t something we earn. Instead, repentance becomes the way we turn our hearts toward God, not just a checklist to wipe the slate clean.
As you head into Holy Week, I invite you to rethink what it means to atone and be forgiven. It’s not about groveling or hoop-jumping—it’s about daily change, sincere turning, and becoming someone who loves the Savior more deeply.

How Imperfect Moments Reveal God’s Deep Love for Us
3/20/2026
This week, I'm diving into something a little more personal as I sift through old memories and rediscover moments that shaped my journey. Ever wonder about the artifacts and stories you leave behind? As I archive photos, report cards, and even my Eagle Scout project, I'm reflecting on how these pieces become threads in the tapestry of legacy—one that's bigger than ourselves and might someday inspire our kids and grandkids.
But the sweetest nugget comes from an unexpected lesson learned at Philmont back in 2015. Called to be the "priesthood accompanist," I quickly realized that my piano skills were about as raw as they come—imagine poking through hymns on a keyboard, surrounded by leaders and feeling the pressure mount! Yet amid the stress, something beautiful unfolded: a tender mercy and a reminder that our Heavenly Parents know us intimately, anticipate our needs, and offer love even in our most awkward moments.
This episode isn't just a trip down memory lane—it's an invitation. If you've never asked God how He feels about you, take a few minutes this week and try it. I believe He wants you to know. And before your day ends, consider: who around you needs a little chocolate cake, or maybe just a reminder that they're deeply loved?

Is Life a Test or a Journey of Becoming?
3/13/2026
This week, I’m joined by Sarah as we dive deep into the idea of “life as a test.” Why does this phrase feel so heavy, and is there a better way to view our existence? We wrestle with gospel culture, expectations, and the pressure to get everything “right”—from church checklists to phrases like “multiply and replenish the earth.” Is test really the wrong word for what we’re doing here, and how much does accountability play in our growth?
But the real heart of our conversation is about purpose, influence, and agency. Is our purpose a single, narrow goal—or does it change and expand throughout our lives? Sarah and I explore how the sweet nuggets of gospel living emerge not from passing tests, but from personal development, becoming, and enriching others’ lives. Whether it’s through talents, kindness, or simply “being,” we look for new language and perspectives that bring hope instead of pressure.
Come along for this honest exchange, and let’s rethink what fulfillment and growth mean in our journey of faith. If you’ve ever struggled with feeling “enough” or wondered if your impact mattered, this episode is for you.

Making Decisions When There’s No Perfect Answer: Lessons from Pioneers and Everyday Life
3/6/2026
This week, I'm digging into the tricky world of decision-making, and I want to know—how do you decide if you’ve made the “right” choice? Whether you’re choosing where to live, what glasses to buy, or reflecting on the monumental choices faced by the Mormon pioneers crossing the plains, these moments shape our lives in profound ways. Join me as I wrestle with how we balance faith, stewardship, and personal revelation when the future is always unpredictable.
In this episode, we talk about the power (and the trap!) of second-guessing ourselves and explore why you actually can’t ever know for sure what “might have been.” From personal stories about careers and optometrist visits, to powerful gospel examples like Adam and Eve, I’ll share why I believe that the best way forward is to simply decide your decision was the right one—and then learn all you can from it.
If you’ve ever wondered if you took the right fork in the road, I invite you to listen in and see why sometimes, it’s not about choosing perfectly—it’s about moving forward with purpose, embracing your choices, and trusting that sweet gospel goodness is always ahead. If there’s a chocolate cake question (or decision!) you want discussed, send it my way.

How Questions Can Transform Your Spiritual Perspective
2/27/2026
This week on Chocolate Cake Bytes, I invite you to dive into the sweet and sometimes surprising layers of questions that shape our journey in the gospel. We’ll talk about the gifts we’re given—some churchy, some not so much—and how asking deep, meaningful questions can unlock new ways of seeing ourselves and drawing closer to Christ. I share a few of my favorite prompts and invite you to reflect: What’s something you’d have a hard time giving up if it meant getting closer to God? And what might be missing from our favorite stories in scripture?
Whether you’re curious about the process of forgiveness, want to explore what it truly means to “deny yourself of all ungodliness,” or just love thinking about what it would have been like to be present during pivotal moments of Christ’s life and ministry, this episode is for you. Plus, I share a special assignment for your gospel study that might just change the way you read scripture. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts and the questions you’re wrestling with this week—reach out, and let’s make our study (and this podcast) even better together!

Rethinking Forgiveness and Repentance: Understanding Our Relationship with God
2/20/2026
This week, I'm diving into a topic that I wrestle with often—what does it really mean to repent, and how does it connect to forgiveness? After wrapping up my teaching term with Pathways Institute, where we explored Neil Anderson's "The Divine Gift of Forgiveness," I share some personal stories (including a playful moment with my daughter and some very green food coloring) and get raw about what forgiveness looks like from both a parental and a divine perspective. Does repentance earn us God's love or acceptance? Are we using the right words when we talk about forgiveness?
Join me as I sort through these questions in real time—how does repentance change us, not just our actions but our hearts? And what, if anything, does it do to our relationship with God? If you’ve ever wondered about the connection between daily repentance and feeling qualified (not just "worthy") to live in God’s presence, this episode is for you.
I want to know what you think—maybe you have answers or questions of your own. Email me at ken@chocolatecakebytes.com, and let’s keep the conversation going. In the meantime, let’s focus on making daily repentance part of our journey and stay more connected to our divine heavenly parentage.

Choosing Your Experience: Reflections on Waiting, Family, and Making Any Day Amazing
2/13/2026
This week, I share a slice-of-life experience fresh from becoming a grandfather—again. What do you do when the day unfolds in unexpected ways, and how do you decide what kind of experience you'll have? From waiting in the hospital with a bag of burgers to navigating the shifting schedules of new parents and growing families, I found myself reflecting on how we can choose our reactions, no matter what comes our way.
The heart of this episode is about agency—the power to select the experience we want, whether that's a day filled with joy, frustration, learning, or even a bit of introspection. I open up about supporting my daughter during her baby's arrival and embracing the role of quiet, unobtrusive encouragement. It's a reminder that sometimes the sweetest moments come from simply being present, letting others shine, and celebrating their journeys.
So as you dive into this week, consider what kind of day you want to have. Whether it's amazing or hard, there's goodness to be found in deciding for yourself how you'll experience each moment. And maybe, as the episode wraps up, you'll think of someone who could use a chocolate cake—or at least some kindness—today.

Strengthen your Spiritual Confidence
2/6/2026
This week, I dive into a question that’s sparked discussion both in my YSA Institute class and in my own study: What’s the real difference between doctrine, policy, practice, and commandments—and why does it matter for our faith? From stories in the Old Testament to examples drawn straight out of modern Latter-day Saint experience, I explore why putting our confidence in eternal, unchangeable truths (doctrine!) can create a stronger, more resilient foundation for our spiritual life.
If you’ve ever wondered why certain commandments and practices shift with time, but some truths never do, this episode is for you. We talk about how policies and commandments—like dietary laws or Sabbath customs—are designed to highlight deeper doctrines that never change, such as God’s love for His children and the importance of caring for our bodies as temples of the Spirit. It’s all about helping you find peace and clarity when church practices inevitably evolve.
So as you refocus for a new month, let’s dig deep and build our faith on those simple, profound doctrines at the heart of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I want to hear your thoughts—how do you keep your foundation strong when everything else seems to shift? Let’s keep the conversation going and, of course, don’t forget to share some chocolate cake with someone who needs a little sweetness today.

Rewrite the Rules of Your Life
1/30/2026
In this reflective solo episode, Ken dives into the powerful idea that “nothing changes until something changes”—and that “something” is usually us. Drawing from personal experience, client conversations, and scriptural insight from the Book of Mormon about things to act and things to be acted upon, Ken challenges listeners to stop waiting for external circumstances, revelations, or perfect timing to transform their lives. Instead, he invites us to recognize the subtle “rules” we’ve accepted—beliefs that masquerade as obligations—and to question whether they truly serve us.
Ken explores how unexamined rules shape our behavior at work, at home, and in spiritual life. From the fear of appearing like a “job hopper,” to absorbing others’ stress by default, to believing church activity earns God’s love, he reveals how these stories can quietly limit our freedom and growth. The invitation is simple but profound: identify the rules you don’t have to follow, take ownership of who you want to become, and act accordingly—because the change you’re waiting for starts with you.

Finite Kisses, Infinite Joy
1/23/2026
In this reflective and hope-filled episode, Ken reframes the notorious “Quitters Day” and the shame that can trail failed resolutions. Drawing from personal experiences and recent conversations with clients, he reminds listeners that missing goals does not equal being a failure. Your worth is intrinsic, permanent, and unearned—no checklist or timeline can add to or subtract from it.
Ken also widens the lens on what truly matters. From the passing of loved ones to the everyday stack of “should-read” books and never-ending bills, he illustrates how many of the pressures we carry simply aren’t ultimate. Borrowing a powerful thought—“I will kiss my wife a finite number of times”—he urges us to savor the present, learn from setbacks, and choose joy intentionally. Men are that they might have joy—so let’s have joy.

Embracing Your Identity: Becoming What You Want Without Waiting
1/16/2026
This week, we're diving into what it really means to be “created in the image of God”—and how that understanding could radically change the way you see yourself and your place in the world. I share insights from a powerful conversation with Bishop Kevin Foreman from the Harvest Church, where we explore the difference between believing in God and truly believing God. What if our divine identity isn’t just about how we look, but about our potential to be creators in our own right, mirroring the creativity of our Heavenly Father?
As we settle into the new year and think about our goals, I reflect on a story from comedian Brian Regan that flips the script on the phrase “I’m trying to…”—and suggests that we simply own our identities now, rather than waiting for some future achievement. Whether you want to be a speaker, an author, or anything else, you don’t have to wait for someone else’s approval to claim that identity.
So as you listen, I invite you to consider: What identity are you putting off until “someday,” and how would your life change if you made it your present reality? Join me for some thought-provoking questions, a little self-reflection, and as always, the sweet goodness we discover when we dig deeper into the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Exploring Detours on the Road to Forgiveness
1/9/2026
This week on Chocolate Cake Bytes, we’re diving deep into the sweet (and sometimes complicated) process of repentance and forgiveness. Have you ever thought of repentance as a checklist or as a punishment for your mistakes? You're not alone—and we get real about these common detours on the road to true forgiveness. Join me and Justin as we unpack stories, both humorous and vulnerable, from our own lives and dig into what it really means to repent, forgive, and even ask for apologies.
We wrestle with questions that might hit close to home, like: Is it possible to forgive when you never get an apology? What happens if you hurt someone and have no idea you did? And do we ever truly check all the boxes when we try to repair relationships—or does the process ask something deeper of us? Along the way, you'll hear about exploding bathroom firecrackers, awkward moments with Alexa, and the hilarious chaos that comes from trying to announce life-changing news to family.
If you’ve ever struggled with guilt, humility, or letting go of a grudge, this episode invites you to consider repentance and forgiveness from a fresh, gospel-centered perspective. So, grab a slice of cake, settle in, and let’s get honest about why the atonement—not just our own efforts—makes all the difference.

Te Difference between Knowledge and Wisdom
1/2/2026
This week, we’re diving deep into something that sounds simple at first—knowledge vs. wisdom—but turns out to be a lot messier (and way more fun) than you’d guess. Have you ever found yourself tangled up between what you know and what you can actually apply? Annette and I swap stories about teachers who made facts come alive, misremembered family rules, and the strange ways history gets told (and retold) depending on where you grew up. Do you remember who made you fall in love with learning? Or maybe hate it? Yeah, we go there.
But what really sparks today’s episode is a question that the Book of Mormon teases out: What’s the difference between teaching knowledge and teaching wisdom—and how can you know what’s actually true when everyone has a different version of the facts? Annette drops insightful questions about perspective, lived experience, and the natural tendency to chase after certainty even when more curiosity could serve us better. We talk Civil War history, women’s rights, and the wild twists of “truth” depending on your lens.
If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s even possible to teach wisdom, or how to stay open and curious when it seems everyone else wants you to “pick a side,” you’ll want to listen in. Start the New Year with us as we wrestle with curiosity, certainty, and the invitation to see beyond the stories we tell ourselves. What do you think—can wisdom really be taught, or is it all about staying curious together? Let’s talk about it.

Reset Your Focus: Identity Shifts for an Intentional 2026
12/26/2025
This week, we’re talking about how to create the most powerful shift you can make when kicking off a new year: your identity. In this special New Year’s episode, I share the exact process that’s helped me move out of the “passenger seat” and into the driver’s seat of my own career and life. We’ll break down the 12 illusions that secretly dictate how we think, act, and even judge our supposed “failures”—and I’ll challenge you to question whether concepts like failure, shame, and need actually exist, or if you’ve just agreed to them out of habit.
You’ll discover a step-by-step ritual for releasing the habits, fears, and self-criticism you’re finally ready to leave in 2025—and replacing them with the positive qualities and intentions you want to live by in 2026. I get real about how this is not a thought experiment, but a transformative practice you can do right now, at midnight or anytime you’re ready to reset. From burning up your old beliefs (sometimes literally!) to reading your new identity statements every day, this is how you set your intentions in motion and start becoming the future version of yourself you actually want to be.
If you’re tired of having life just “happen” to you and are ready for a fresh start, join me for this reflective and actionable episode. There are no guests and no outside links mentioned this week—just you, me, and a powerful invitation to take control of your story for 2026.

Reflect, Reset, and Win
12/19/2025
This week on Chocolate Cake Bytes, I’m inviting you into a conversation that could transform your entire year ahead. As 2025 winds down and we glance into the promise of 2026, I’m sharing a straightforward process that’s shifted my own mindset about goals—and it might just do the same for you. If, like me, you've had a complicated history with goal-setting, let’s take a new approach together. Instead of getting bogged down in “how,” let’s focus on where we are, where we want to go, and what really matters.
You’ll hear me unpack the three simple but powerful questions I ask myself at the end of each year: What are my biggest wins? Where did I fall short? And, most importantly, what lessons did I pick up along the way? I’ll show you how to move beyond just listing goals, to categorizing your weaknesses—so you can decide which ones to turn into strengths, which to delegate, and which to simply let go. We’ll build a vision for 2026 that’s grounded not just in ambition, but in alignment with your deepest values.
So if you’re ready for 2026 to be truly incredible—and maybe even outshine what you’ve accomplished before—grab a notebook (or your favorite app) and join me for this week’s actionable episode. Let's turn your setbacks into setups, your lessons into leverage, and create a roadmap for a year worth celebrating.

What If the Adversary’s Plan Is Just Changing the Rules?
12/12/2025
Are you ready to wrap up another year? This week on the podcast, I'm reflecting on what it means to approach a new year and asking some deep questions about our understanding of the plan of salvation. We've all heard lessons about the "plan of the adversary" versus the plan of happiness, but what if we've misunderstood what Satan's alternate plan actually was? I'm diving into what the scriptures really say—and don't say—about agency, force, and the adversary's true motives.
Join me as I throw out a fresh idea: what if the adversary’s original proposal wasn’t about forcing us to make the right choices, but rather about simply changing the rules, making it seem like everything would be okay no matter what we did? How does that perspective change the way we approach temptation and discernment today? If the enemy’s greatest tool has always been subtle deception—making wrong seem almost right—what does that mean for us as disciples trying not to be deceived?
This episode is an open invitation to question, ponder, and discuss. I’d love to hear your thoughts—what do you think about the idea of “The Other Plan”? And how do you make sure you’re not being deceived? Tune in for a thought-provoking conversation and let’s keep discovering the sweet nuggets of gospel goodness together.

Does God Really Love Us If He Doesn’t Fix Everything?
12/5/2025
This week on Chocolate Cake Bytes, I get real about one of the trickiest questions in our faith: If God truly loves us, why doesn't He just fix things? You know those moments—the ones filled with heartbreak, pain, or just plain unfairness—when you've pleaded for a miracle and wondered why it didn't come. I share some of my personal journey through a year of growth and challenges, and invite you into a conversation about God’s love, agency, and the lessons hidden in our hardest experiences.
Drawing from stories like my sister Annette's battle with a traumatic brain injury, I wrestle with the tough reality: sometimes painful things happen that have nothing to do with our choices. Why does God allow that kind of suffering? Is agency the only answer—or is there something deeper at play? What if the purpose of life isn’t comfort, but growth and connection that reaches beyond mortality?
Let's dig into what it means to be loved by a God who lets us struggle, and how those struggles might actually be preparing us for something greater. I’d love to hear your thoughts—do you agree, disagree, or have your own insight? Email me at ken@chocolatecakebytes.com, and let’s keep the conversation going.
