In Acts 17:6, the early believers were described as those who "turned the world upside down." As they followed Jesus and boldly proclaimed the gospel; people, cities, and cultures were transformed. In the chapter leading up to this, we hear of the impact that they had on the city of Philippi. This story provided the framework for this message and an invitation to radically following Jesus. When Jesus called His disciples He called them to a movement. This movement was one that changed history on a global scale while impacting the lives of the individual disciples. As followers of Jesus today, we are called to be a part of that same movement and it happens on a large scale but it also happens in our hearts as we surrender ourselves to His plan and leadership. Jesus lived a life that was in perfect unison with the Father. This didn't happen by accident. All that Jesus did was a reflection of that relationship. At our Edmonton Gathering in September, 2023 at Spruce Grove Community Church, Travis Holownia shared this amazing word on Luke 5:17-26. We have a desire to see everyone come to the saving knowledge of Jesus, but oftentimes, in our focus on the crowds, we can miss the one right in front of us. When Jesus was ministering a crowded house, a few men had to break through the roof and lower their friend in need of healing to see Jesus. This 'interruption' led to an incredible encounter for the man, who was healed and forgiven by Jesus.
