Romans 5:18–21 presents three sharp contrasts that show us both the depth of what we deserved and the stunning greatness of what we’ve received. Where Adam’s one act brought death to all, Jesus’ one act of righteous obedience brings justification and life. In Romans 5:12–17 we see two men whose individual actions changed the course of humanity: Adam, whose transgression brought condemnation and death to all, and Jesus, whose grace brought justification and life to all who receive it. Though Adam’s failure plunged every one of us under the reign of death, the free gift of Christ restores us to reign in life alongside Him forever. Psalm 95 opens with a call to worship, inviting us to sing, shout, and bow before the God who made us and lovingly shepherds us. The psalm then takes a sobering turn, cautioning us not to harden our hearts like the Israelites in the wilderness, who began well but failed to finish in faith. Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the final week of Jesus’ earthly ministry, when the King of Kings rode into Jerusalem not on a golden chariot, but on a humble donkey, fulfilling Zechariah’s prophecy and revealing the paradox at the heart of his reign. The crowds cried “Hosanna!” expecting a political deliverer, yet Jesus came to conquer a far greater enemy than Rome: the sin that separates us from God. This week we jumped back into Romans 5:9-11 and saw three reasons Christians can have assurance of their salvation: the permanent verdict of justification, the radical love of reconciliation, and the generous character of God. This passage shows that our assurance rests not in our feelings or efforts but in God’s unchanging character and the irreversible work of Christ. In Psalm 103, David offers a deeply personal declaration of praise, reflecting on how God has forgiven, healed, and crowned His people with love and compassion. We took a break from our Romans series to study Psalm 63 with one of our ministry team leaders, Corbin Harris. In this Psalm, we see David acknowledging his need for God, preaching truth to himself about God’s steadfast love, and ultimately trusting in God’s protection and victory over his enemies. This week we studied Romans 5:6-8, examining God’s love through the lens of salvation as a gift, measuring its greatness by the desperate need it meets, the ultimate price Christ paid, and the unworthiness of those who received it. Romans 5:1-5 explores how God’s grace in salvation doesn’t stop at forgiveness but provides additional benefits, bringing peace with God, open access to Him, and a guaranteed future glory. We took a break from Romans this week to study 1 John 2:15-17, exploring how to overcome worldliness. This passage emphasizes that believers belong to God rather than the world, which is under Satan’s influence. Romans 4:18-25 examines Abraham’s faith as a model for Christian salvation. Salvation is not a “do-it-yourself” project but requires trusting God to accomplish what we cannot do for ourselves.
