Honest Questions: Doubt

4/26/2026
Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | April 26, 2026 Referenced Scripture: Matthew 28:16-20, John 20:26-27, Matthew 14:28-31, Jude 1:22 Reflection Questions: 1) What are doubts/questions you have about God or Christian faith? What is the root of your question? (What is your doubt about?) 2) How does God view our doubts? Does doubt mean a lack of faith? How can processing our doubts with God actually make our faith stronger? 3) Have you experienced the church as a safe/helpful place to express your doubts or questions? Why or why not? 4) Have you had the opportunity to help others process their doubt? Describe that experience. What did you learn from that experience? 5) Read Jude 1:22Be merciful to those who doubt What does it mean to be merciful to those who doubt? Describe how this would look in someone’s life? How might it look for a person to not receive mercy? What is the cost of a lack of mercy? How could you grow in helping others process their doubts and questions? 6) Why would it be important to actually verbalize our doubts to God and other followers of Jesus? What does it mean to take our doubts to Jesus? What does this look like practically? What is the danger of trying to ignore or suppress our doubts and questions? 7) What questions or doubts do you have now that you need to verbalize to God and other followers of Jesus? BONUS STUDY: 8) Read Psalm 73 of Asaph What observations can you make about processing doubts from this psalm? What’s your next step? * Connect: We'd love to connect with you! Joshua 2: The Story Of Rehab

4/12/2026
Vern Streeter | Guest Speaker | April 12, 2026 Referenced Scripture: Joshua 2, Matthew 1:5-6, Hebrews 10:31, James 2:25-26 Reflection Questions: 1. The story of Rahab is well known. She is famous. Did you learn anything new? How was the sermon on Joshua 2 impactful for you? 2. What difference does it make in your life that, like Rahab stated, “…the Lord your God, is God in heaven above and on earth below.” (Joshua 2:11) 3. Isn’t it interesting that Rahab is celebrated in the New Testament by Matthew, Hebrews, and James? (Matthew 1:5-6; Hebrews 11:31; James 2:25-26) Why do you think James uses Rahab as an example of “Faith without works is dead?” 4. Right now, are you hanging tightly to a rope that is being lowered by someone else – why and who is on the Rahab end of the rope? And, who are you lowering – who is depending on you for their spiritual life? That’s a lot of responsibility. How can we help you stay strong for someone you care about? 5. Bonus discussion: Vern said Rahab did a bad thing but did the right thing. How is that possible? Can you think of other similar circumstances? Have you ever faced such an ethical dilemma? 6. A mind-bending morality-challenging deeper dive: Ethicists offer three main views: A. The “Lie was sinful but used by God” view. * Rahab did the right thing (protecting life) * But used a wrong method (lying – a violation of the 9th commandment) * God honored her faith despite moral imperfection. This keeps moral absolutes intact. B. The “Higher moral law” view. * Protecting life is more important that telling the truth. This is called “graded absolutism.” C. The “Wartime ethics” view * She lied in a time of war. * Deception in war (like espionage) is not morally equivalent to everyday lying. This is military resistance, not private morality. Discuss! 7. From this, what do we learn about God and His relationship with us? That’s all very interesting and worth discussing, but please don’t let it overshadow the call on your life to not “drop the rope” for the people depending on you… What’s your next step? * Connect: We'd love to connect with you! Easter: Jesus Doesn’t Cancel People | April 5, 2026

4/5/2026
Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | April 5, 2026 Referenced Scripture: Colossians 2:13-14, Philippians 3:8-21, John 20:19, 1 Corinthians 15:20, John 3:16-18 Reflection Questions: 1. What is your observation of the “cancel culture” that we live in today? How would you describe “cancel culture”? What are some examples you have seen of people today being cancelled? Would you say that cancelling people is fair or unfair? Explain your answer. How might it feel to be cancelled by the world around you? 2. Big Idea: Jesus did not come to cancel people, but to cancel sin. Read Colossians 2:13-14, John 3:16-18 How does it feel to know that Jesus has cancelled your sin but will never cancel you? How can we know that Jesus will never cancel us? How does this change how we might respond to our failures in this life? 3. When you reflect on the resurrection of Jesus what gives you hope and encourages your heart? 4. Read Philippians 3:10-11 How have you experienced the power of the resurrection in your life? (ie. How has your life changed? How have you experienced a growing relationship with Jesus? How have you seen the power of Jesus at work in your life?) 5. Paul says that part of knowing Jesus is participating in the same kind of suffering that He experienced. What kind of suffering did Jesus experience in his life? Why can this be a comforting thought when we are experiencing pain and suffering and loss in our life? Why is it important to understand that that suffering is a normal part of knowing and walking with Jesus? 6. Read 1 Corinthians 15:20 Jesus’ physical resurrection is called the first fruits of our resurrection. What does this verse mean? Reflect on the reality that you will be given a physical body for all of eternity that will not age, decay, get sick, experience pain or loss, suffering, or death…What thoughts does this bring to mind? How does that hit you emotionally? What questions does it raise for you? What hope does this give us? Why? What’s your next step? * Connect: We'd love to connect with you! What are some things you tend to look towards for security, identity, or relief (control, approval, success, relationships, etc.)? 3. Was there a moment in your life (like the story shared in the sermon) that shaped what you now “look to” for worth or validation? 4. How does the picture of Jesus entering on a donkey—humble, not forceful—challenge or reshape your expectations of God? 5. Does this command extend to followers of Jesus today? Why or why not? Explain. 3. What are your observations of the church today in making disciples? Does it seem that many followers of Jesus have disregarded this command? Explain. Can a person be a mature follower of Jesus and not make disciples? 4. What has been your experience of being discipled by others ? What has been your experience of discipling others? What has been encouraging to you? What has been challenging or frustrating? 5. What barriers have you experienced in trying to invest in the lives of other people? (Helping them learn to know and follow Jesus) How can a person overcome those barriers? 6. Bob mentioned that discipleship is… Relational… Intentional… Transformational… —How would you describe each of these words? Do you agree or disagree with this list? What would you add or change and why? 7. Whom could you move toward today to begin a relationship where you could help them know and follow Jesus? How might you approach them? What is your next step in doing that? 8. How would our church and our valley be different if followers of Jesus took this command to make disciples more seriously? ALL-IN Followers of Jesus: Suffering

3/15/2026
Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | March 15, 2026 Referenced Scripture: 1 Peter 4:12, Hebrews 5:7-8, Romans 5:3-5, Hebrews 12:11, 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 Reflection Questions: 1. How are you experiencing suffering and pain in your life right now? How are you seeing people in your life experience suffering and pain? 2. We cannot read God’s favor or disfavor by assessing how troubled a person’s life is. True or False? Why?What does the Bible teach us about this statement? What have you learned from personal experience about this statement? 3. Why do some of us expect that God would/should spare His all-in followers from the suffering of this world? 4. What are some wrong beliefs or responses that can come from pain and suffering? What questions does suffering raise about God, about us, about our relationship with Him? What truths of Scripture do we need to keep in mind in order to counter these wrong beliefs and responses? 5. READ: 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort. How are other believers intended to be an extension of God’s comfort to us in the midst of our pain and suffering? How have you seen God use other people to be a source of comfort for you? How have you been a source of comfort to others? Share some specific examples… 6. Why would isolation be detrimental to someone in the midst of suffering? Why can we tend toward isolation? How can we break through our tendency to isolate? What will that require of us? 7. Do you personally move toward people in suffering or tend to isolate? Why? Explain… 8. What specifically do we need from others in our suffering in order to experience comfort? What things from others can actually be unhelpful, even if offered with good motives? 9. What area of pain and suffering in your life do you need to share with someone? Who is someone in your life that needs your comfort and encouragement in the face of suffering and pain? What was the outcome of saying “yes”? Have you ever said “no” to some decisions to obey and follow Jesus? Share those stories. What was the cost of saying “no”? 4. Does Jesus promise that following him will always be comfortable and require no risk? Explain your answer. What does He promise if we are willing to follow Him and obey? 5. What are the places in your life where you find it most difficult to follow Jesus in obedience? Why do you think that is? 6. ALL-IN Followers of Jesus: Generosity

3/1/2026
Logan Holloman | Next Gen Pastor | March 1, 2026 Referenced Scripture: Matthew 28:20, Luke 12:13-34, Exodus 16:16-20, Luke 11:2-4, 1 Timothy 6:6-19, Luke 16:13-15 Reflection Questions: 1. In what ways am I choosing to depend on God’s generosity for my felt need? And in what ways am I restricting God’s generosity by my own self sufficiency? 2. Is the way I relate to money more reflective to the American economy or God’s economy? What is one step, just one practical change, that I can make to live more generously in my relationship to money and possessions. 3. Stay committed to developing a personal rhythm of confession. Begin giving attention to what this practice of confession could look like in your everyday life, and let it lead you into greater freedom, honesty and forgiveness. 4. Choose generosity to counteract greed. Greed is taking more than we need for ourselves, regardless of how that affects others. This week consider where you can be generous. What motivates you to protect the vulnerable? Can you share an experience of protecting the vulnerable that was meaningful to you? 4. What are Biblical examples of Jesus protecting the vulnerable? 5. ALL-IN Followers of Jesus: Together

2/8/2026
Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | February 8, 2026 Referenced Scripture: John 13:34-35, Ephesians 5:25, 1 Corinthians 3:16-17, Ephesians 3:4-6 Reflection Questions: 1. Mission Statement: Together, we lead people in becoming All In followers of Jesus. — Do you believe that an ALL IN follower of Jesus must live out their faith TOGETHER with other believers? Why or why not? 2. Read John 13:34-35 — How would you describe the way Jesus has loved us? What adjectives would you use? How is it even possible for us to love other people in that same way? 3. Jesus said the defining characteristic of an ALL IN follower is seen in our love for one another. How would you evaluate your love for other followers? How would you evaluate other followers' love for you? 4. Can we love Jesus while at the same time not be actively loving His church (other followers)? Why or why not? 5. What makes it difficult for you to love other followers this way? What barriers do you need to overcome? What are some practical ways you could seek to overcome those barriers? 6. For us to be known and loved (and to love and know others) requires vulnerability. What makes vulnerability difficult for people? Difficult for you? How can we create environments that foster greater vulnerability? 7. Shame → Shame isn’t just feeling bad about yourself; it’s a deep fear that you are unloveable; that if people knew who you really were, they would reject you. 8. How can shame create a barrier to authentic loving relationships? How can we overcome shame? How can we help others overcome shame? 9. How might Sunday Gatherings be different if everyone showed up with a mindset to know and love other people? What is something practical you can do this week to approach our gatherings differently? 10. How could your small group grow in the ability to know and love one another? What’s your next step? When you realize that the invitation to follow Jesus means we actually are expected to become like Him, how do you respond to that idea? Why can that thought be overwhelming? Does this seem impossible? Why or why not? 2. Read Matthew 11:28-30 What were the two uses of the word “yoke” that Jesus is referring to here? Describe the imagery of being “yoked” to Jesus like two oxen? How does that imagery help us understand how we are to walk our life with Jesus? How does this help us to become like Jesus? 3. If we are weary and burdened in our life, what does that say to us about our walk with Jesus and our connection to Him? How can Jesus actually make our yoke easy and our burden light? Does that mean that everything in life will be easy and light? Why or why not? 4. True life in Jesus is found when we surrender our lives fully to Him. What does it mean to surrender fully to Jesus? Why can that word be difficult for us to deal with? What makes actually surrendering difficult for you? 5. How does surrendering to Jesus actually bring freedom and life to our souls? Explain. What things in this life can we become free of through surrendering? Explain. 6. The opposite of surrender is control? How can trying to control everything in life be exhausting? (making us weary and burdened) 7. Reflect on the illustration from the sermon of the clenched fist vs the open palm. What did that experience show you? Where in your life do you need to unclench your fist and open your hands? 8. Serenity Prayer God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. What wisdom do you see in this simple prayer? How could this be helpful in your learning to surrender? 9. Describe Spiritual breathing… What is exhaling? → why is confession of sin important? What is inhaling? → how can we tangibly give control to the Spirit? 10. If peace in your soul is evidence of a surrendered life… How surrendered is your life today on a scale 1-10? Explain. If anxiety in your soul is evidence of a need to surrender… How anxious is your life today on a scale 1-10? Explain. 11. Where do you need to surrender control in your life to Jesus today? ALL-IN Followers of Jesus: Like Jesus or Becoming Like Jesus

1/25/2026
Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | January 25, 2026 Referenced Scripture: Luke 6:40, Romans 12:2, 1 John 4:19, 1 John 3:16, Luke 19:10 Reflection Questions: 1. Read Matthew 14:22-31 Why do you think Peter got out of the boat? What do you think Peter was thinking? (requires speculation) (v. 31) Do you think Jesus was questioning Peter because he was doubting Jesus or because he was doubting himself? Explain your thinking. 2. Read Luke 6:40 Following Jesus is becoming like Jesus and imitating his life. Why is learning about Jesus not enough? Is it possible that we can learn much about Jesus without being transformed by Him? Explain. 3. How can you know if you are being transformed by Jesus? What would be true of your life if Jesus was changing you? How can you see this in yourself and in others? 4. Read Romans 12:2 What things in this world can form us besides Jesus? What things have formed your life besides Jesus? How can a person know who or what is forming their life? 5. How can we intentionally be formed by Jesus rather than unintentionally formed by the world around us? 6. Framework of becoming like Jesus… (Triangle) Imitating His love Relationships: UP - love for the Father IN - love for the Family of God OUT - love for the Broken World In your own word describe how Jesus modeled these. Which one of these comes most naturally to you? Which one is the most challenging for you? 7. Why is it important that we are clear with others (and ourselves) what it means to be a follower of Jesus? 8. The invitation is not to be with Jesus when you die… It’s to die with Jesus while you live… Agree or disagree with this statement? Why? 9. Assignment: Choose a gospel and read through it with these questions in mind… How would I imitate what I see in Jesus in my own life? What would I need to start doing? Stop doing? Keep doing? How would my life be different if I took imitating Jesus seriously? What’s your next step? Connect: We'd love to connect with you! ALL-IN Followers of Jesus: The Invitation is the Definition

1/18/2026
Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | January 18, 2026 Referenced Scripture: Luke 9:23-24, Ephesians 5:25, Mark 1:14-15, James 2:18-19, Revelation 2:1-5 Reflection Questions: Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. 1) Whoever What were the requirements and pre-qualifications to be a follower of Jesus? Give some examples. What does that say about God that the bar to entry from a cultural perspective was really low? What thoughts might you have had in observing who Jesus chose to be his closest followers? Explain. 2) Wants to be my disciple “Wants” implies it is a choice that we make to follow Jesus or not. Why do you think Jesus would give us a choice and not demand that we love and follow Him? Can love be forced? Explain. 1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us. 3) Must deny themselves What do you think Jesus meant by this? What does this NOT mean? Explain. What has it cost you to follow Jesus? Why is it important to know up front that following Jesus can and will be costly? Is there an area of your life that you find difficult to surrender to Jesus (or an area you find it difficult to follow)? Explain, why? 4) Take up their cross daily and follow me. What did the symbol of the cross mean to a first century person? How is that different from how we view the symbol? Why does that appear to be a “bad marketing” strategy by Jesus? What do you think he was trying to be clear about? How have you experienced humility, suffering, and death as a follower of Jesus?Do you ever experience FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) because you are a follower of Jesus? Explain. Luke 9:24 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. 5) Explain what Jesus is promising in this statement. Have you experienced the reality of this promise? Why or why not? 6) How do you need to take up your cross TODAY in order to follow Jesus? Why do we need to do this DAILY? 7) What do we do if our heart grows cold, hard, tired, or apathetic? Read Revelation 2:1-5 8) Why is repentance always the answer when we are off track in following Jesus? 9) Being an ALL IN follower of Jesus is about DIRECTION and NOT PERFECTION.What does that statement mean? Agree or disagree? Why? What’s your next step? * Connect: We'd love to connect with you! ALL-IN Followers of Jesus: Am I a Follower of Jesus | January 11, 2026

1/11/2026
Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor Referenced Scripture: John 6:60-69, Mark 10:17-22, Ephesians 4:1-3, Matthew 7:21-23 Reflection Questions: 1. Describe your current relationship with Jesus. DTR (Define The Relationship)What adjectives would you use to describe your connection to Him right now? Is it growing closer, getting more distant, or staying the same? Explain. 2. What is the difference between being a fan of Jesus and being a follower of Jesus? What characteristics would you use to describe each of these kinds of people? Where do you see yourself currently? 3. In the life of Jesus (gospels), how does Jesus describe what it means to be a follower of Him? How does Jesus make this definition clear in his teachings and invitations to follow him? 4. Read Mark 10:17-31 (Rich Young Ruler)What are some observations you can make about following Jesus from this story? How does Jesus separate fans from followers in this story? Can you relate to the response of the rich young ruler? Why or why not? 5. In the sermon we talked about identity based spiritual transformation. Identity → Process → Outcome (fruit) (who we are) → (what we do) → (what we get) Why is it critical to start with identity as we approach the pursuit of spiritual transformation? What is the cost/problem with focusing on outcomes first rather than focusing on our identity? How would your life be different if your core identity was being a follower of Jesus? How would it shape your habits/disciplines and the outcomes of your life? 6. Read Matthew 7:21-23How is it possible for someone to think they are a follower of Jesus and not actually have a relationship with Him?What thoughts or questions come to your mind when you read this passage? Why does this passage make it so important for us to really answer the question, “Am I a follower of Jesus?” (as Jesus defines follower)How does Jesus define a true follower of Him? 7. If you had a DTR (define the relationship) with Jesus what do you think you would say? What do you think He would say? What’s your next step? * Connect: We'd love to connect with you! Referenced Scripture: 1 Corinthians 11:17-28, Matthew 26:29 Reflection Questions: 1. As the New Year begins, what’s one tradition, habit, or routine that reminds you of what’s most important in your life? 2. Read 1 Corinthians 11:17–28 aloud together. Which words or phrases stand out to you as you hear this passage? Why do you think Jesus specifically commands his followers to remember him?\ 3. In what ways does communion remind us that faith is not only personal but communal? 6. Paul encourages believers to examine themselves before participating. What does healthy self-examination look like, and what does it not look like? 6. How does the promise of Christ’s return shape how we understand and experience the Lord’s Supper today? 8. When you receive the Lord’s Supper, which aspect do you tend to focus on most: the past (what Christ has done), the present (your relationship with God and others), or the future (Christ’s return)? 9. What might change if you approached communion more intentionally as an act of remembrance and hope rather than routine? 10. Close your time by thanking God for the gift of the Lord’s Supper and asking him to deepen your gratitude, unity, and hope as you remember Christ’s sacrifice and await his return.
