S3E1 - DECLARING - "serious" vs recreational basketball

2/15/2024
Coach Darryl is back! Season 3 kicks off with the declaration of YOUR basketball journey. Ultimately, the choice between recreational ball and serious basketball training depends on individual preferences, goals, and commitments. Both options offer unique benefits, and individuals should consider what aligns best with their interests and aspirations. However, the choice MUST be made. Recreational Ball serves its purpose with its social benefits; less pressure - allowing a more enjoyable experience without the stress of competition. And flexibility, making it easier to fit basketball around other commitments such as work or school. When choosing Serious Basketball Training the commitment level changes. Serious training provides a structured environment for improving basketball skills such as shooting, dribbling, defense, and teamwork. With dedicated coaching and practice sessions, players can significantly enhance their abilities. Competitive Opportunities can lead to fulfilling achievements and recognition within the basketball community. Opening doors to competitive leagues, tournaments, and possibly even scholarships or professional opportunities for highly skilled players. Lastly, the discipline, perseverance, and work ethic required for serious training can translate to valuable life skills beyond the basketball court. Players learn the importance of goal-setting, resilience, and teamwork, which can benefit them in various aspects of their lives. We'd love to hear which path you chose & why. Let us know! What have been your pros & cons? Did you changed your mind halfway in? Do you regret not going down the other path? What would you do differently? S1E7 Do Growing Basketball Players Need Multiple Trainers?

5/22/2020
In this episode Coach Darryl and RD parent Rick Spence dive into the relationship between a trainer and young basketball player. Some parents think multiple trainers are needed to develop a basketball player. Allowing the specialty of each trainer to be developed within that athlete. However some trainers find this to be detrimental, because their job evolves from beginning to end. Trainers are in it for the long haul, so that makes being interchangeable impossible. In a perfect world, a council of trainers would be they key to map out the young athletes entire career. But we're not in a perfect world, so what do you do? As a parent, you've put in the work to find the right trainer who understands what your needs and goals are, so let your trainer create their masterpiece. The success of the child is their priority.
