In this edition of the BROCast, Dave and Tracy talk about UCLA football recruiting, preview the spring game, briefly address the Tounde Yessoufou reports, and then discuss how UCLA women's basketball has closed out the Transfer Portal. This weekend is poised to be one of the biggest UCLA football recruiting weekends in recent memory. The Bruins landed a commitment from four-star defensive tackle George Toia yesterday, and there could be as many as three more four-stars committing this weekend, as well as potentially three-star running back and UCLA legacy Duece Jones-Drew. We talk about the weekend, and the likelihood of UCLA ending up with a top 15 class...or better. We then shifted gears to the spring game, and we discussed what we are hoping to see during the session on Saturday, with special focus on the offensive line, particularly at left tackle, as well as the pass rush and middle linebacker positions. We also want to see Brian Rowe make a spectacular play or two. We touched on the reports that Tounde Yessoufou's agent has said he's going to the NBA Draft, and then digressed into a discussion of AI and aggregation and how it's hurting sports journalism generally. In this edition of the BROCast, Dave and Tracy pontificate about the 5-in-5 eligibility rule proposal that seems to rapidly be gaining momentum, the implications of that for college athletics, how it might apply to the UCLA basketball roster for next year, and what that might mean for continued transfer recruiting. We then pivot to a discussion of the UCLA football team in spring practice. The Bruins are heading into practice No. 11 tonight, and we talk about some of our broader takeaways from spring so far, and what our concerns are heading into the final week of the spring. We then discussed football recruiting for UCLA, with the Bruins adding another four-star this week in Khalil Terry. Could the Bruins land a top 25 class? Or...could it even be top 15? We then went position by position through the depth chart to see if we can start to suss out where we can see real depth forming. We then dove into a discussion of football recruiting, where UCLA has already landed three four-stars and is in the mix for several more. Is a Top 25 class likely? Is a top 15 class possible? We discuss. Finally, we closed with a discussion of the roster build so far for men's and women's basketball, and what we're hearing on the remaining options. In this edition of the BROCast, Dave and Tracy talk about the women's basketball national championship, UCLA baseball's dominance, what's going on with the transfer portal in basketball, and then some observations from football practice. The women won the national championship this past weekend, and we talked about the dominant win over South Carolina and the overwhelming talent the Bruins had on this team. We also discussed the transfer portal a bit, and some things we've heard regarding women's transfers. We then touched on the baseball team, currently riding a 30-2 record and a 24-game winning streak. It's another team that's playing at a historically dominant level, not unlike the women's basketball team. Then we shifted gears toward the men's basketball transfer portal, where we tried to answer the question of why UCLA is taking so many power forwards. We then touched on transfer guard recruiting and the post position. Finally, we wrapped up talking about the access we've gotten to UCLA football practice, and how that's afforded us much more in-depth observation periods. First, the guys break down the men's basketball game between UCLA and UCF on Friday at 4:25 p.m. The big question for the Bruins surrounds the health of Tyler Bilodeau. If he and Donovan Dent are healthy, UCF doesn't present as a terrible matchup. Then, they discuss the women's game, and how it looks likely that the Bruins should be able to blow through the weekend (Cal Baptist and then the winner of Oklahoma State/Princeton) without too much trouble, setting up for the first real game likely in the Sweet 16 or Elite 8. Finally, they close with a discussion of Mick Cronin and five-star high school recruiting. They discuss the way Cronin ideally builds a program, and whether he can successfully evaluate four-star level high school players and then develop them here in the Transfer Portal era.
