Here A Coach, There A Coach. Oops! Where Are The Players?

4/8/2026
Who will coach North Carolina men and Virginia women? Will there be any players left as large numbers hit the Transfer Portal? ACC Nation’s Will and Jim light up the mic’s with a successful Easter Egg Hunt in their back pockets to look at the NCAA Tournaments. There were some highs and at least one notable, embarrassing low by a long-time coach. Could it be one of those tell-tale signs that time is catching up and they need to retire? Have You Subscribed To ACC Nation Podcast Yet? Speaking of coaches there are more than a fair share of changes at the position within the ACC. Two old school conference teams faced decisions regarding the tenure of their coach. North Carolina’s men’s basketball went hunting rabbits and came up empty-handed for longer than a storied program should have. The decision to go with Michael Malone raised a few eyebrows among fans. Coach Meanwhile in Charlottesville, women’s basketball fans were thrilled with the record setting post-season and then startled, no, shocked when a rather flat announcement was made that the school and coach were parting ways. Those that cover the Wahoos scrambled to find answers and eventually peeled away the layers to find what can best be described as a toxic environment that touched players and staff. Virginia take a quick look east to the University of Richmond for their next leader in Aaron Roussell. The Transfer Portal has been very active for ACC teams, both coming and going. A number of teams will be depending upon building their roster, at least this season by opening the bag for players seeking a new home. Will shares some of the more prominent names on the list. 3/31/2026
NCAA basketball is all wrapped up for the ACC but there is no bow this season. Men and women’s teams remaining in the tournament had their final appearance on the national stage after a good run in the post-season. Will and Jim open with the ‘shot heard round the world’ fired off by Braylon Mullins of UConn against Duke. A 35-foot three that lifted the Huskies into a one-point lead leaving just 0.4 seconds on the clock. The guys talk about tendencies that should be somewhat of a red flag for the Blue Devils. Ultimately, the buck always stops with the head coach. What can be done to correct those issues? One would imagine that was all the coaching staff and players thought about right through their dreams that evening. NFL Draft ’26 | Miami, Clemson Biggest ACC Contributors What players will or will not be returning for Duke next season? Podcast | No Offense, No Defense, No Hope – ’70 Deacons

1/15/2026
What might it feel like living in 1970? On this episode of ACC Nation podcast we’re joined by special guest David Doda, a member of the Wake Forest football team that won their first conference championship since the school had helped form it in 1953. History books looking at 1970 are filled with things like the Vietnam war, the Beatles breaking up, Joe Frazier becoming the World Heavyweight Champion in boxing and the movie M*A*S*H premiering among others. But, in Winston-Salem a group of young men who were dismissed by sportswriters of the time came together under Coach Cal Stoll for a journey they’ll never forget and Doda shares his memories in his book, No Offense, No Defense, No Hope. Podcast The road to victory is seldom as smooth as imagined. The struggles as players, as young men living in a troubled world and personal loss often helps forge lasting relationships. Having an old school coach that holds your feet to the fire builds comradery and focuses you on things at hand rather than the whirling dervish outside of campus. Baseball | Preseason Top 25. Good For What Exactly? Doda’s book is available at Amazon and is a fascinating read for anyone who is into college football, interested in history and especially for Wake Forest alumni and fans. 1/12/2026
Who among you had an ACC team in the CFP Championship game? ACC Nation podcast with Will Ojanen and Jim Quist take a look at Miami and their journey to the title game. Don’t let anyone tell you that the conference is weak or unable to compete against the assumed powerhouses because it’s obviously not true. With financial incentives being spread far and wide among college teams parity is kicking in and what once was is no longer. The guys jump into ACC men’s and women’s basketball. The men’s side has fallen on hard times the last few years but there is clearly a re-emergence underway and more teams than ever fighting for a spot in the top tier. Basketball | ACC Men Power Up For A Solid Shot

12/17/2025
With over a month and a half of (essentially) non-conference ACC men’s basketball under our belts who would have thought things would be looking up as much as they are? Special guest, Jason Carmello, the wizard behind Big-Underdog bracketology says there’s much to be happy with when it comes to the conference this season. ACC men’s basketball over the past few years has been less than stellar and pundits have been declaring an early death for the conference. Well, it appears that the slumber is over. Duke, Louisville, North Carolina and Virginia all hold spots in the latest Top 25’s. What might be even more telling is the teams that are getting attention and it’s a long list. Clemson, Cal, Notre Dame, Miami, SMU, Virginia Tech, NC State and if consistency jump into the mix then Wake Forest and Syracuse will be there, too. Basketball In Carmello’s first bracket of the season 8 ACC teams find a spot with four more just on the cusp. That’s simply the Phoenix rising. Yes, it’s an early projection but there’s far more stats to work with this season than in years past. All good signs. With a quick listen or watching ACC Nation on YouTube you’ll find out why we spend less time talking when Carmello joins us to talk basketball. Podcast | Championship, CFP And The Whiny Ass Blues

12/8/2025
What’s up on this week’s ACC Nation podcast? Will and Jim look at the ACC Football Championship game between Virginia and Duke and are somewhere around 98% on the positivity regarding the performances of both teams. We don’t think most of you have any doubt about what we’re referring to in our headline. Yeah, the guys have opinions. The rundown of all the bowl games and how the matchups look plus thoughts on Miami vs. Texas A&M in the CFP. If teams bring it there will be plenty to talk about when all is said and done. That includes the huge impact on drawing portal players and recruiting will have on programs if they go full tilt. Podcast If you stand back a little you’ll see some improvement in ACC men’s basketball this season and it’s very encouraging. What was once a shining star for the conference has lost some luster over on the women’s side. A solid start has ended up being a mess. What’s happening?
