Ford is developing an electric three-row SUV likened to a 'personal bullet train', with a projected release in 2025. The Explorer-sized EV, which could boost the company's sales, promises an impressive 350-mile range. Tata Motors, the owner of Jaguar Land Rover, is reportedly choosing the UK over Spain to build a large electric car battery plant. The plant, which could create up to 9,000 jobs, signifies a significant investment in the UK's automotive sector. Tesla is strongly considering building its next gigafactory in England, potentially bringing a large number of jobs to the region. It also announces mineral deals with several companies to secure the supply of lithium products supporting the EVs production. General Motors is set to launch an all-electric Cadillac Escalade called the Escalade iQ, with specifications and production details yet to be confirmed. A customer has already received and registered one of these German Model Y RWDs. This model is equipped with a new BYD battery that, upon quick testing, has reported positive results. The charge rate hit 172kW at 25% state of charge and stayed there until 50%. Geely has started shipping its new Zeekr 001 model, powered by the latest CATL "Kirin" battery. This model, boasting the longest range among electric vehicles in the Chinese market, 641 miles (1,032 km) with a 140 kWh battery. XPeng has announced that the first production model of its G6 SUV has begun leaving the manufacturing line. The G6 is scheduled to be formally launched and delivered by the end of the second quarter, with a price range of 200,000 to 300,000 yuan ($28,450). XPeng sees the Tesla Model Y as the primary rival for the G6. SAIC has cut the prices of several of its small electric vehicles (EVs) to promote their use in rural areas. The firm announced price reductions of up to 13,000 yuan ($1,850) for models in its Hongguang Mini EV family (15.7%). In April, the sale of fully electric vehicles in China reached 444,000 units, constituting 25% of the country's auto market. An additional 165,000 plug-in hybrid vehicles sold during the month pushed the overall market share of plug-in or new energy vehicles to 34%. In Shanghai participation in the May auction for gasoline vehicle licence plates fell to a 99-month low. Shanghai began giving free licence plates to buyers of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) in 2022. From January 2023, PHEVs were treated like conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, and owners will need to purchase licence plates via competitive bidding. BMW has announced plans to start assembling its electrified Neue Klasse vehicles and their batteries in China from 2026. These next-generation electric vehicles (EVs) will be produced by BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA). Swiss company Holcim will buy 1,000 Volvo electric trucks. The first 130 trucks are set to be delivered in 2023 and 2024. By replacing 1,000 current Volvo FH diesel trucks with 1,000 Volvo FH Electric trucks using green power on a typical route, up to 50,000 tonnes of CO2 could be saved annually. VinFast has confirmed the arrival of its second shipment of VF8 EVs, including 1,879 longer-range vehicles, following an initial dispatch of 999 VF 8 City Edition SUVs in December 2022. VF8 Eco and VF8 Plus trim levels are EPA-rated at 264 miles and 243 miles, respectively. Lotus is preparing to launch the Type 133, positioned as a rival to the Porsche Taycan. Spy photos suggest the Type 133 will feature a modern style, a sloping roof, and design elements drawn from the Evija and Eletre. The 112kWh battery pack from the Eletre will reportedly be included in the Type 133, potentially providing the sleek saloon with a range of over 400 miles. Northvolt has completed the construction of its energy storage system (ESS) manufacturing plant in Poland and anticipates launching production by the end of 2023. Tensions are escalating between Washington and Brussels over a plan to make European manufacturers eligible for U.S. electric car tax incentives. This deadlock is expected to prolong negotiations beyond the summer, potentially disadvantaging European manufacturers in the American auto market.

The vehicle boasts a 0-100 km/h speed of 3.8 seconds and 544 hp of power. Both dual- and single-motor versions will be available, with long-range versions featuring a 102 kWh battery. The Polestar 4 is expected to launch in China in November 2023, with a global release planned for 2024. Prices start at around €60,000. Polestar plans to start production in South Carolina in 2024 for the U.S. and European markets. The company aims to sell 80,000 cars this year, focusing on delivering more Polestar 2 hatchbacks. Tesla has reduced prices for its Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles, with the Model 3 Standard Range RWD now priced below $40,000. The price cuts come as demand has decreased and interest rates have made car purchases more difficult. A study by iSeeCars found that Tesla has the most car recalls, with Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X making up four of the top five most recalled models. Brands with the least recalls include Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota. Following changes to California's net metering rules, Tesla announced that its Powerwall will help homeowners save up to 92% on their electricity bills. The intelligent and customizable software in Powerwall will optimize energy use for maximum savings. Gogoro partnered with Enel X to create virtual power plants (VPPs) from its battery swapping stations in Taiwan. These VPPs interact with Taiwan's power grid to supply energy when demand exceeds supply. New York State is providing $8.3 million in funding for 255 charging stations across 70 municipalities. The funding comes from the Municipal Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Grant Program. A poll revealed that 40% of U.S. adults are considering switching to electric vehicles (EVs) for their next purchase. However, concerns about high prices and a lack of charging infrastructure remain. BYD's premium brand, Yangwang, began pre-sales of its first model, the U8, at the Shanghai auto show for $160,000. The U8 has over 1,100 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. RAW Charging announced a deal with the National Trust to install charging stations at various heritage sites in the UK over the next three years, in an estimated £12m rollout. Scania and Northvolt have created an electric battery with a lifetime of 1.5 million kilometers, equivalent to a truck. The battery is produced at the Northvolt Ett gigafactory. Rolls-Royce launched its first all-electric car, the Shining, in China. The vehicle has a top speed of 250 km/h, a range of 585 km, and is priced at $8.

Ford expects its EV business unit to lose $3 billion in 2023, with total losses of $6 billion projected from 2021-2023, though it aims to build 2 million electric vehicles by late 2026. Tesla expects to lose the full $7,500 federal tax credit on its cheapest electric car, the Model 3 Standard Range, due to its battery cells being sourced from China, which would make it ineligible for the new tax credit program. The car will be based on the MEB-Plus platform, with new battery cells and 200kW charging speeds, and may be named ID Golf. Ford is set to launch an all-new electric vehicle for the European market on March 21, which will be one of seven new models to be released in Europe by next year. The first EV to be manufactured at the Cologne factory will be a medium-sized, five-seat crossover. BMW is investing up to £600m in its Mini plant at Cowley, near Oxford, to prepare the plant for the production of electric models. The Neue Klasse programme is also underway, which incorporates connected vehicles, autonomous driving, and AI assistant features. The 2024 Hyundai Kona has been unveiled with significant improvements in terms of size, luxury, and features. The car comes with a "seamless horizon" front light bar, a dual 12.3-inch display screen, and physical climate controls. The electric version has also been updated with more power, faster charging, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology. For Europe, the Kona Electric has two battery packs, Standard and Long Range, with estimated ranges of 212 miles and 304 miles, respectively. In the US, the EPA range for the big battery is 260 miles. The Kona will be released in the US in the third quarter of the year. The BYD ATTO 3 is a new electric family SUV from BYD that utilizes the company's e-Platform 3.0 and is equipped with the distinctive lithium-iron phosphate Blade Battery. The car has a decent official range of 261 miles (420 km) and efficiency of 3.98 miles per kWh. The car offers a 15.6-inch touchscreen that can rotate from landscape to portrait, and the infotainment system is generally intuitive, with key functions easily accessible.
