Holiday 3D Prints | F3DPS Ep 4.02

12/14/2018
We printed off some things for our Christmas tree! There wasn't much out there for Kwanzaa so we designed a kinara (candle holder). We also have a new member on the Fargo 3D Printing team (Brandon) and he will show up on more podcasts in the future. Here all all the prints we talked about: Thingiverse MyMiniFactory Brandon's Instagram Topics for the future: Mosaic Manufacturing's Palette 2, Creality Ender-3 upgrades, MakerBot Method printer *Sorry this one isn't great for audio. We suggest...

We're Back? | F3DPS Ep 4.01

10/17/2018
We're still around, just haven't been posting anything on YouTube! Between losing a few team members and moving to a new location, we've stayed pretty busy. Not certain on the format, but hopefully we'll start creating more content in the near future. Thanks to everyone who reached out during our hiatus! The repair side of the business is now a separate entity named "Fargo 3D Printer Repair." Our Mr. Pumpkin remix Don't forget to follow Fargo 3D Printing for further updates. Like us on...

High Temp SLA Cookie Cutter and Til Pitha (Indian Dessert) | F3DPS Ep 3.06

2/23/2018
We shot this podcast back in November (some elements are from August). Despite the late upload, we were excited to share this one! Cookie cutters aren't new to 3d printing, but we'd never designed one before. While designing a custom cookie cutter for Impact Dakota, Eric made an emoji cutter just for fun. With cleanliness in mind, we made a high temp SLA cookie cutter as well to see if we could make it sanitary without melting it. We didn't put it in the dishwasher, but we did boil it....

CES 2018 Wrapup | F3DPS Ep 3.05

2/16/2018
A bit late, but here's our CES 2018 wrapup! This year the 3D printing section of CES was significantly smaller and in a different location. The quality of the booths was very good, but many larger companies had no presence at all. We talk about booths that you may have seen in some of our previous videos, but also a few that we didn't get formal interviews with. Markforged has new materials and had a live tensile test of one of their printed parts. Da Vinci showed off their CJP machine and a...

CES 2018 Preview | F3DPS Ep 3.04

1/2/2018
We'll be back at CES in about a week! Although it's fun to get out of town and check out new tech, it appears that the benefit of attending CES is diminishing (for 3D printing at least). We'll see how it compares to RAPID + TCT this year and decide which event to attend in the future. Some companies we're excited to check out: XYZ Printing - da Vinci Color Astroreality - AR + high quality moon model Lunar Indiegogo CRP - 3D printing and windforming Anet - cheap, effective 3D printers Flux...

MD&M Minneapolis | F3DPS Ep 3.03

12/27/2017
Last month, Eric and some of the F3DP team went to a trade show called Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) in Minneapolis. Desktop Metal, Stratasys and 3D Systems were all well represented. Our first and favorite booth was RP America. They are resellers of UnionTech, Rize and Desktop Metal. They also work with an electroplating company called RePliForm. We saw another booth called Productivity. They are a machine tool supplier which had Desktop Metal, Stratasys and a FOBA laser on...

The 3D Hubs Debacle | F3DPS Ep 3.02

12/13/2017
A few months ago, 3D Hubs introduced the "Express Checkout." It was a way to streamline the checkout process for newer, less experienced users. Although it may have been a great fit for some, advanced users and the hubs themselves were not pleased. 50 hubs were chosen by 3D Hubs to do the bulk of these orders and would be chosen automatically. Due to an error in the hub auto-selection, Fargo 3D Printing ended up getting a deluge of orders. We just couldn't keep up. Although the Express...

Hangprinter + DVD Build Plate | F3DPS Ep 3.01

11/2/2017
Long time no see! We return with "season 3" and a fresh face. Eric Falde is back with new cohost Marcus Moldaschel, a mechanical engineering student at NDSU. First, we look at an experimental printer that Marcus assembled. The Hangprinter is an open source printer that hangs from the ceiling and can essentially print objects as large as the space it's installed in. Marcus didn't have great luck, but did manage to get it to print. It's updated fairly often, so check the development blog for...

Belt Printers and Polar 3D | F3DPS Ep 2.19

10/3/2017
John and Eric compare two very similar printers which emerged around the same time: BLACKBELT 3D and Printrbelt. BLACKBELT is a Kickstarter printer that was funded back in July and looks to be a good fit for a printing bureau. The Printrbelt is a combo of Printrbot hardware and Polar 3D software, seemingly aimed at hobbyists. Both feature a belt as the build plate which effectively allows for an infinite build size in the Z-axis. Prior art comment OPENCREATORS SquareBot Burj Khalifa...

New From Formlabs | F3DPS Ep 2.17

8/4/2017
Shot this one a while ago and just got around to editing it, so not the newest info. We discuss newly announced products from Formlabs: the Fuse 1 and the Form Cell. The Fuse 1 is the first SLS (selective laser sintering) printer from Formlabs. It greatly reduces the size and price of this technology, coming in around $20K with all the bells and whistles. The Form Cell is a system that will allow multiple Form 2's to be automated via robotic gantry system. It removes buildplates and runs...

4/7/2017
**CLOSED 2K SUB GIVEAWAY** Enter here to win Giant Patrick (Lower 48 states only, ends April 21, 2017 at 11:59pm CST) We dropped our podcast covering the $179 Tiko 3D printer almost exactly 2 years ago. We received a lot of criticism for our harsh analysis of their Kickstarter campaign. Their most recent update states that Tiko is in financial trouble and currently on standby. John covers what went wrong and where they can go from here. The M3D Micro $199 Backer Rescue On the topic of...

Pangolins, Raise3D + Updates | F3DPS Ep 2.13

2/16/2017
We love amaochan's model "Save Pangolins." It's a great design for a great cause. Grab the model and the rest of the story. Check out the Facebook. We've had a little more time of the Raise3D printer and we are still impressed. Dual extruders are always a little tricky, but its slicer is great! The direct drive, light weight Zesty Nimble extruder is now available! Maker Box is turning a year old and doing a give-away via their community blog. There are several ways to enter the contest. CES 2017 Wrap Up | F3DPS Ep 2.11

1/26/2017
The F3DP team is back from CES 2017! We wanted to document the coming year's emerging tech and get interviews with some of the creators. One of our easy favorites was the gigantic multi-head Cronus from Titan Robotics. Its five heads can work simultaneously on the same part without bumping into each other. Another favorite was a lot more gimicky, but the 3D Magic Pan pancake printer was really fun. There were some really spendy printers at the Nano Dimension and Markforged booths, but it...

World's Lightest 3D Printer Extruder | F3DPS Ep 2.08

11/4/2016
We talked with Zesty Technology recently and learned about their remote drive 3D printer extruder called the "Zesty Nimble." They claim that the Nimble is the lightest 3D printing extruder in the world! Brian and Lykle (Australia/Cyprus respectively) started talking after backing the same 3D printer on Kickstarter and now plan to make a printer of their own. Their extruder can be used on a delta printer and dramatically reduce the retraction rate. It also works on cartesian models. The...
