Di Polotiki tsa Mzansi (South African politics): ActionSA MP Dereleen James laid criminal charges against Social Development Minister Nokuzola Tolashe for allegedly failing to declare two luxury SUVs received as gifts, with the vehicles reportedly registered under her children’s names, raising concerns about breaches of PRECCA and executive ethics laws. Current Affairs: South Africa received nearly 40,000 doses of the HIV prevention injection Lenacapavir, a twice-yearly treatment aimed at reducing new infections. Madlanga Commission: The Madlanga Commission exposed serious corruption within the Tshwane Metro Police Department, with Commissioner Yolande Faro describing systemic failures and Sergeant Fannie Nkosi arrested after police found illegal firearms, ammunition, a grenade, and hidden case dockets linked to serious crimes. Crime and Courts: We looked into a case where five suspects were arrested in the Free State for the murder of 36-year-old Johannes Mollo, who was mistakenly identified as another man and killed. International Scoop: A two-week ceasefire between Israel and Iran collapsed almost immediately amid continued attacks, while Senegal passed a law increasing prison sentences for same-sex relationships to up to 10 years and criminalising the “promotion of homosexuality,” drawing criticism as a human rights violation from the United Nations.

Tuks FM's Lunch presenter, Eulender chats to the Head of the SA NBA about the upcoming BAL. The Basketball Africa League (BAL) sixth season will tip off on Friday, March 27 at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, South Africa, and culminate with 2026 BAL Finals on Sunday, May 31 at BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda. The 2026 BAL season will feature the top 12 club teams from 12 African countries playing 42 games in Pretoria; Rabat, Morocco; and Kigali. This season, the 12 teams is divided into two conferences of six teams each. Each conference will play a 15-game group phase during which each team will face the other five teams in its conference once. The Kalahari Conference group phase will take place from March 27 – Sunday, April 5 in Pretoria. The Sahara Conference group phase will take place from Friday, April 24 – Sunday, May 3 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat. Eight teams from across the two conferences will qualify for the Playoffs in Kigali from Friday, May 22 – May 31. Fans can purchase tickets on Ticketmaster.com. The 12 teams include Dar City – the first-ever BAL participant from Tanzania – first-time BAL participants JCA Kings (Côte d’Ivoire), Maktown Flyers (Nigeria), Johannesburg Giants (South Africa) and Club Africain (Tunisia), 2024 BAL champion Petro de Luanda (Angola) – the only team to have qualified for all six BAL seasons – and 2023 BAL champion Al Ahly (Egypt). This season, the national league champions from seven countries – Angola, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal and Tunisia – automatically qualified for the BAL. The other five teams qualified through the Road to the BAL qualifying tournaments conducted by FIBA Africa across the continent from October – December 2025.

Every week, we have PDBY Deputy Head Jason Visser joins Tuks FM on air to chat about PDBY stories of interest, while opening up to greater conversations. Founded in 1939, it was originally known as Perdeby before rebranding to PDBY to reflect its expansion into digital and broadcast media. The publication covers campus-specific and national news across four main sections: News, Features, Entertainment, and Sport. Tabloid-sized copies are distributed for free across all UP campuses (Hatfield, Groenkloof, Onderstepoort, Medical, and Mamelodi). Digital: Articles and full digital editions are available on the official PDBY website and via Issuu. So it goes without saying that hosting the Tuks Up and Out society to chat more about the current obstacles, mindsets, norms and changes they're currently facing off on. UP & Out is the official LGBTQI+ student society at the University of Pretoria. It exists to create a safe, inclusive, and affirming space for students of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions. What they do: Advocacy & Awareness They actively promote LGBTQI+ rights on campus through campaigns, dialogues, and events—especially around key moments like Human Rights Day and Pride Month. Support & Community Building They provide a sense of belonging for students who may feel isolated, marginalized, or misunderstood. Education & Engagement Workshops, discussions, and collaborations with other campus bodies to challenge stigma, misinformation, and discrimination. Representation They act as a voice for LGBTQI+ students within university structures, pushing for inclusive policies and safer campus environments

CSA & G (Centre for Sexuality, AIDS and Gender) is a university unit focused on sexual health, HIV/AIDS awareness, gender issues, and inclusive health education. What they do: Free HIV testing and counselling Distribution of condoms and sexual health resources Education on safe sex, consent, and prevention (including PrEP) Advocacy around gender equality and LGBTQI+ inclusion Why they matter in 2026: HIV/AIDS is still a critical issue in South Africa, especially among youth Rising conversations around consent, hookup culture, and digital dating Ongoing need for inclusive sexual health services for LGBTQI+ students Sexual health is directly linked to dignity, bodily autonomy, and human rights .
