In this week’s chat we’re joined by the amazing Callie, an Allied Health Professional working in the eating disorder space. Callie chats to us about how we approach body image with our children. We discuss what kind of impact our actions and words about our own bodies can have on our kids, from as early as the age of two. 147. Managing kids emotions when introducing a sibling with Psychologist Sahra O’Doherty

Introducing a new sibling into your family is a huge transition for everyone! And for those of us that have gone through it, we know the transition can be a bit tricky for the older kids. In this episode we’re chatting to psychologist Sahra O’Doherty about how to manage your older children’s emotions when introducing a new sibling. We talk about things to do before the baby arrives to help prepare them, what you can do after the baby arrives to make them feel included and continue the sense of routine, as well as how to identify if your child is struggling with this big change. We also discuss tips for regulating our own emotions during this transition, because let’s be honest, it’s tricky for the parents too! Gen talks us through her journey of discovering she was pregnant at 32 weeks, then after a series of unexpected events giving birth to her beautiful baby boy only a few days later. Steph shares with us the challenges she faced in the medical system due to her BMI, and her journey advocating for herself to have the type of birth she wanted. This is such a beautiful chat and an insight into what birthing can be like for women who are plus size, and what we can do to support them in achieving their birth outcomes.
