BONUS: Big Love for Little Lulu Love, Erin and Wendy

5/19/2023
In honour of Erin's incredible fundraising for Epilepsy Action Australia (follow the link to donate), we wanted to revisit this incredible episode. Erin will be running a marathon, be sure to follow her on Little Lulu Love for all the updates. While Jordana is away we will be sharing some of our past episodes, be back live in your ears soon. Erin is the mother of Luella, a gorgeous 18-month-old who suffers from West Syndrome. What gets her through her day, is the support she receives from her mum, Wendy. Luella has a rare type of epilepsy called West syndrome which causes her to suffer through hundreds of seizures/spasms a day. She is making meeting milestones that, in her original prognosis, wasn't possible thanks in large part to Erin and the wonderful intense therapies she goes to at NAPA. Wendy is a very hands-on grandmother and mother, which has helped Erin through her postnatal depression, she allows Erin and her husband Dave, a night off every now and again, which is really essential for any parent, let alone parents who have to manage the added stresses of Luella's condition. As Erin says "Luella isn't a burden, it's her seizures that are a burden!" There were many tears during this episode, but Erin has always been happy to push through the tears, so that, as a mum, and also as Luella's voice, she is heard. There needs to be more research and funding into West Syndrome and giving parents and guardians more support through NDIS. This conversation has two-parts: listen now to part 2 of this conversation with an amazing mother and daughter. Thank you again to Erin and Wendy for sharing their story and being the most amazing advocates for Luella. If you have an amazing story to share with us, please DM or email us. If you would like to be a sponsor, please email mothersanddaughterspod@gmail.com Thanks for tuning in, stay safe. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Nicola and Gabriella: A Strong Bond, Inspired by Oprah

5/9/2023
We wanted to thank all our former guests who sent in a special message for their mums for Mother's Day. I wanted to say a HUGE thank you to my mum for everything she does for me and my family on a daily basis, for answering my calls multiple times a day (or an hour on some days). Special messages from Behar, Jade, Nikolina, Lauren, and Ella. In our episode, we chat with Nicola and Gabriella, a bond forged through their love of travel, Oprah, and fashion! Nicola was a Qantas flight attendant for 34 years. While raising a family, Nicola worked at 34,000 ft traveling the globe – and instilling in her two children the value of working hard, having a sense of curiosity and adventure, and how to have fun and make the most out of life. Gabriella is a News Anchor and Reporter at Sky News Australia. What Gabriella admires most about her mum, is her fearless confidence and positive approach to life. Nicola admires Gabriella’s drive, compassion, and ability to connect with everyone she meets. Nicola and Gabriella have always valued the bond that they share. They’ve been through all the highs and lows of life together. They may occasionally fight about sharing clothes – but deep down they know how lucky they are. Jessica & Donna: Bringing Alba Home During the Ukraine War

4/17/2023
We're back for Season 3 with an incredible story with Jess van Nooten and Donna. It took eight years - and 15 rounds of IVF - before Jess van Nooten and Kevin Middleton considered surrogacy. They found an agency in Ukraine, given their excellent treatment of surrogates and the difficulty of surrogacy in Australia. This would have been stressful regardless, not having constant contact with a surrogate, but imagine getting a phone call to say that their surrogate was in labor early and Jess and Kevin needed to get on a plane. When they were in the air, Russia declared war on Ukraine, and the couple had to rescue their baby Alba from a war zone. They spent weeks in Ukraine before Alba was healthy enough to be transferred. They started a go-fund-me to help, given the enormous cost and logistical nightmare of safely bringing a baby out of Ukraine. Donna, Jessica's mum, joined Jess in London to help while Alba recovered from surgery and then was an extra set of helping hands to bring Alba home. This is a story of true determination and love; it has to be heard to be believed. Thanks to Jess and Donna for sharing their story. This is part one; tune in next week for part 2. Narelda Jacobs & Jade Dolman - States Apart but Never Divided

7/18/2022
Many of you will recognise Narelda Jacobs. She started her career as a news reader in Perth, and in 2020 made her way across to Sydney, for a permanent seat at Studio10, a regular on The Project, and now she's embarking on a new show, Dinner Guest. As the first First Nations Woman, she has indeed paved the way for others to follow on television or pursue their dreams. Narelda gave birth to her daughter Jade at 19, just as her career began. With her family around her, her parents and five sisters she was able to become the amazing newsreader she was. Jade always came along with Narelda, to the newsroom, to meetings, and with her came her paper and pen. It brought her great comfort, as she continued her passion she is now an accomplished artist. Her murals adorn Perth streets, which brings great joy and pride to her mum and grandmother. Narelda and Jade share their experience of having Narelda's dad come to school when they were young, sharing his story as one of the Stolen Generations - it made them both extremely proud to have him at school, telling a story that needed to be told. Narelda's parents were both Pastors, and from a young age, she learned about the power of her voice, speaking publicly and representing the Whadjuk Noongar and other First Nations people. We were so grateful to meet Narelda's mother at the end and have a chat with her. The family were all away together and continued our conversation around the dinner table with Narelda's sisters, nieces and nephews. Onto some personal news, we are taking a little break, as baby #3 (aka Peanut) is due any day now. But we will be back with more amazing mother and daughter stories very soon! Hosted on Acast. Twenty-four hours later she become the youngest woman in the world to complete the Everest-Lhotse (8514m) double; the world's fourth-highest mountain, and her climbing partner? Her mum, Jane. As if that wasn't enough, Gabby also holds the record as the youngest woman in the world, at 16 years old, to climb the sixth highest peak, Cho Oyu, Tibet. Her passion for mountaineering began as a 15-year-old with her first trip to Nepal; a trek to Everest Base Camp with her Mum, Jane. Gabby has also enjoyed running and triathlons at home. She recently finished Year 12 VCE and is now travelling in Europe for a Gap Year. Her next plans are to climb the remaining eleven peaks (above 8000m), as she now has three under her belt. From a young age, Jane, 52, has always been into extreme sports skydiving, motorbike riding, trapeze, ultra-running and scuba diving, she now has a newfound love of mountaineering. She's extremely dedicated to her training regime for these climbs, while also being a mum of 4, to Sam, Gabby, Joe and Anna, and working as an educator and artist. They were given a chance to come to Australia and jumped on it, within a few weeks, they were in a new country, with no family, no jobs and unsure where they would set up their family but what they did know, was they were safe. It was an extremely touching moment where Britt is grateful to her parents for making the sacrifice for them. Rachael Casella & Wendy Banham: A Mother's Mission Part 1

5/1/2022
This week, we kick off our episode with some very special Mother's Day messages from some of our previous guests, Bahar Etminan, Ariel Parker (Babes Project), Nikolina Kharoufeh (9honey). Wishing all the mother's a very happy mother's day! Our chat this week is with Rachael Casella and her mum Wendy. Rachael is an advocate for IVF, Genetic Screening, Child Loss and Fertility, all while working as an AFP officer, raising her son Zac and continuing to grow Mackenzie's Mission! Not long after Mackenzie was born, she was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) – a severe inherited neuromuscular condition without a cure. After the initial shock and disbelief, Rachael, her husband and their families decided to give Mackenzie the best life she could have, giving her all the love and experiences life had to offer. She sadly passed away at 7 months old. Believing no couple should face this tragedy, the Casellas launched a campaign calling for reproductive genetic carrier screening to be routine and free for all prospective parents in Australia. After losing her daughter, Rachael and her family have managed to move mountains, recently the Australian Government announced $500 million towards genomics research. Rachael shares her continued battle with IVF and giving a sibling to Zac and Mackenzie, she truly is a gift to this world. We thank Rachael and her mum Wendy for sharing their story and continuing to bring awareness so that no parent has to go through what they have been through. Daffy & Melissa: Going Viral at 93 With Her Wise Words

4/4/2022
Daffy was born in Bundarra, NSW in 1928, she was the youngest of 5 children. She came from very humble beginnings, something that she wouldn't take back and often longs for as it was a simpler time. Daffy left her husband in 1978 and she moved in with her daughter, son in law and two granddaughters (one of them being Melissa). Years later, she moved in with Melissa and her kids. During the pandemic, Melissa decided to start asking questions about Daffy's past, and her opinion on current affairs and recipes, she soon realised that her grandmother's "wise words" should be shared with the world, and so she did. Since then, Daffy at 93, has become a viral sensation, unsurprisingly, given her frankness, honesty and giving us a window into the past. Daffy at her age, has a lot to say, and there is no mincing her words, she attributes her health and age to "not drinking or smoking, avoiding bad men, and eating her veggies" - there's so much more she has to offer, and that is exactly why Melissa keeps on sharing her videos. Melissa is the lucky recipient of Daffy's love and a go-getter attitude, she does the gardening, cooking, laundry and anything else to keep her moving. We thank Daffy and Melissa for their time and their honesty. If you want to be infected by Daffy's Wise Words, follow them on Instagram and Facebook. Nikolina & Danica - The power of family and motherhood

3/27/2022
Nikolina is a writer, producer and presenter with a passion for open and honest conversation and storytelling. She started her career at Nova 969, her parents couldn't believe it when she landed the role. As immigrants from Macedonian, they came to Australia, to give their girls, the best life they possibly could, they didn't speak the language, they left behind their family and friends, and 30 years later, they have succeeded all expectations. Danica beams with pride when talking about her children, and grandchildren. Nikolina spends her days reporting on the chaos of motherhood and answering all the 'wtf' questions she is left with each day after taking care of her toddler. The host of 'How To Life' the Podcast Nikolina isn't shy from opening up to listeners about her chaotic life as a wife, soon-to-be mum of two and confusing career. She has also written an e-guide for mums, Mum Advice, for those who are looking to cut through the noise and get a real answer, from a real mum. Danica is currently still working as a Diversional Therapist, after almost 30 years of her long-standing career, and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. She has a passion for looking after the well-being of aged care residents. We loved chatting to them both, they were honest about motherhood, careers and how to "balance" the two. Which let's be real is more of a juggling act than a balancing act. Also a big thank you to Nikki, for sharing her struggles in the early days/months of motherhood, with her son Noah. It can be hard to share with everything, including family, how the baby blues are affecting us, and she continues to share that with her articles and parenting advice on 9Honey, and her very funny and all too real, reels on Instagram. Lisa Bennetts & Isabella Roberts - From MAT Leave to Working Together

3/21/2022
We're back for Season 2!! Sorry, we've been absent for a while, we took a longer summer break than expected! Jordana is now expecting her 3rd baby (spoiler alert, it's a BOY!). Now that we are back we are so excited to launch our season with Lisa & Isabella. Lisa, started Oi Oi Global, when she went on maternity leave after having Isabella. After working in fashion for many years, there were no nappy bags suited to Lisa's aesthetic, so she decided to create her own. And so after giving birth to Isabella, she brought to life her own brand, Oi Oi (a nickname she gave Isabella as a baby). Lisa worked tirelessly to build up her brand. Shipping from her home, getting the family involved in packing and posting, with Isabella by her side the whole time. Cut to 2020, Isabella was in between freelance gigs in marketing and decided to start helping her mum to bring the brand into a new light. Sue Currie & Naomi McMullen: Reunited After 20 Years Apart

11/16/2021
This week, we explore a very different Mother and Daughter relationship. It's 1971, Sue Currie, a successful model, found out she's pregnant (out of wedlock) at 18 years old. There weren't many options for women in this era, especially without family support. After giving birth to her daughter, Naomi, Sue held her briefly before she was adopted. Naomi grew up with her blended family knowing she was adopted and was surrounded by love, siblings and many sets of parents. Sue's modelling career continued and she always had Naomi in the back of her mind, on her birthday, and wondering where she was. In 1990, Australia's adoption laws changed and Sue registered to be contacted. Little did she know, Naomi, who had grown up in both Australia and the USA had also registered with the law change. Before long, two were contacted to get in touch and arrange to meet up. What followed, was a catch up on almost 20 years of lost time, and a new relationship bloomed. Noami and Sue are still extremely close, so much so, Sue was in the room when Naomi gave birth to her son, a full circle moment! Despite state distance, the two still have a close relationship and hope to see each other soon, with border restrictions lifting for Summer holidays. We thank Sue & Naomi for being so open and honest about their relationship and history. If you have a mother/daughter story you would like to share. Please DM on Instagram. Hosted on Acast.
