In 2025, more 1052 UFO sightings were reported across Canada, an average of one every eight hours. In this episode, we are joined by Canadian UFO researcher Chris Rutkowski to break down the findings of the 2025 Canadian UFO Survey, an annual report that collects and analyzes sightings from civilians, researchers, and government sources to better understand what people are seeing in Canada’s sky. The discussion unpacks the common characteristics such as colour and shape, where reports are coming from, when they are most commonly seen, why Nova Scotia stands out, notable cases, and how things like satellites, drones, and social media are changing what we think of as a UFO. This week on The Canadian Gothic, we’re revisiting a case that continues to unfold in the headlines. Due to travel, we’re taking a short break from new releases, but rather than leave you without an episode, we’re bringing back our coverage of the murder of Paul Schmidt, a shocking and deeply disturbing act of violence that unfolded in downtown Vancouver on March 26, 2023. In broad daylight, outside a busy Starbucks, Paul was attacked and killed following a brief confrontation while standing with his young daughter. The incident, which was partially captured on video and widely shared online, left a lasting impact on the public and raised difficult questions about violence, bystander behavior, and the justice system. At the time of this original episode, many details were still emerging. Now, as the trial of the accused continues to work its way through the courts, this case is once again in the spotlight. This rerelease offers an opportunity to revisit what happened that day, and to better understand the events at the center of a case that is still unfolding. In this episode, we break down a truly unexpected UFO story. A recent interview with former U.S. President Barack Obama ended with a rapid-fire round of questions, and one of them, about the existence of aliens, set off a strange chain reaction. The moment quickly spiraled beyond the interview itself, leading to current President Donald Trump announcing a full release of government files on UFOs, and even resulting in Hillary Clinton being asked about the topic during a deposition connected to Jeffrey Epstein. On February 10, 2026, Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia became the site of one of the deadliest mass shootings in Canadian history when 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar killed their mother and half-brother at home, then went to Tumbler Ridge Secondary School where they murdered five children and an educational assistant before taking their own life. On May 10, 1973, a stranger walked into a bank on Main Street in Kenora, Ontario, carrying guns, duffle bags, and a homemade bomb that was armed to a switch he clenched between his teeth. For more than an hour the standoff dragged on inside the bank as a growing crowd of onlookers crowded the street outside it’s doors. At 4:12 p.m., a single rifle shot ended the robbery in an explosion that shattered windows, scattered money through the air, and erased the man at the center of it all. More than fifty years later, his identity and his motives remain unknown.
