Rayven | Session 2, VOL28 | Whatever We Are

5/5/2024
"Whatever We Are" is a poignant original song that grapples with the weighty themes of life and death, inspired by the Latin phrase "memento mori" which translates to "remember you will die." Despite its somber origins, the song offers a glimmer of hope and introspection, challenging the notion of death as a finality and inviting listeners to embrace life's journey with courage and resilience. Originally written for the play "Memento Mori," the song serves as a powerful reflection on the transient nature of existence and the myriad interpretations of what it means to be alive. Through its evocative lyrics and emotive melody, "Whatever We Are" navigates the complexities of mortality with grace and sensitivity, offering solace and understanding to those who contemplate life's inevitable end. While the title may evoke a sense of bleakness, the song itself is anything but. It serves as a reminder that death is not the end, but rather a natural part of the human experience. By exploring themes of life, death, and the journey in between, "Whatever We Are" encourages listeners to cherish each moment and embrace the beauty of existence, knowing that in the end, it is not the destination that defines us, but the journey itself. Walt Hamburger | Session 1 Vol 24 | Do Crimes

4/5/2024
This song is a departure from Walt's usual melancholic tunes. It's a love song inspired by a pivotal moment in his life. Meeting his girlfriend for the first time. I remember vividly the night of our first date, it was one of those moments where everything seemed to align, and I knew she was someone special. I struggle to articulate it without sounding cliché, but it was like she instantly became the most important person in my world. So, this song is a recount of that magical evening and the overwhelming emotions I felt for her." Walt and his inspirational date celebrated three years together this past winter. Walt has been described as an entertainer. He brings the energy and humor associated with years in the punk rock scene to his acoustic performances. Walt's songs range from heart-felt ballads to rock 'n roll and everything in between. He will always engage with the crowd, especially during his set. In 2014, Walt's popularity increased significantly thanks to exposure at Appleton's Mile of Music festival, as well as big shows with Joey Cape (Lagwagon), Chris Cresswell (The Flatliners), Kristopher Roe (The Ataris), Richie Ramone (The Ramones), & Cory Chisel...just to name a few. He was also featured in a YouTube video created by Lawrence University about Appleton, WI. Walt takes donations at shows for local animal rescues. Donate at the next show and portions will go to Orphan Animal Rescue & Sanctuary as well as Valley Cats Cat & Kitten Rescue. Every cent helps save lives! Liv Mueller | Session 1, Vol 23 | Going Down

3/29/2024
"Going Down" is dedicated to a friend of mine that I lost. Its really about untreated mental health issues and substance abuse disorder and where it can take people if they're not getting the right support or love or encouragement. I think that it is important to advocate for mental health issues and substance abuse disorders. I think that mental health is health, there's a massive stigma around it in this country despite how much the conversation has opened up. I still think it's kind kind of a no no. It's about somebody that I was very close to that I just slowly watched kind of slip away, and in my opinion was not getting the love or support or help that they needed, but when you argue with reality you lose every time, all the time, so they're gone now and they're in the great beyond and I honor them and love them with this.
